I can't believe they didn't even add his name... Goddamn it... His name was William Travilla. He designed Marilyn's most iconic dresses. The Pink Silk dress from "Diamonds are a girl's best friend". The Golden dress she worn at the Photoplay Awards in 1953 that was called "vulgar" by Mommie Dearest. Every dress what you've seen in "Gentlemen prefer Blondes" was designed and made by him as well for her.

People do now too you just don’t see what they see. Fashion isn’t a one size fits all. It’s fluid and always changing and evolving. You may not like today fashion but that doesn’t mean it’s not fashionable. It also could be your nostalgic for the past fashion and so you don’t have that connection with today’s fashion. Also most people can’t afford a dress that expensive. There’s also the idea of glamorizing the past when in reality if you were in that generation you’d say the same thing about the ones before you.

@@aishwaryarai01 you could say that the scarf around the neck was inspired by Indian design/wearable placement and i'd believe you. The rest of the dress is hardly indian inspired. This movie was produced in 1953, and the dresses will slightly pre-date the movie, so likely designed in 1951/52. Back then, old Bollywood design was so much more modest and nothing like this dress. The sari was popular, with a modest choli, or the salwar kameez. Marilyn's orange dress likely inspired future bollywood designs because Hollywood has always been so influential. We will never know for sure what inspired each piece in his collection because William died in 1990.

Same, it is my most favorite dress of Marilyn Monroe 🧡✨
I think it's inspired from a bollywood actress' dress. You can search this "aajkal tere mere pyaar ke charche" And you would see a video song in which she wore it. ✨
@@tanujachakraborty9409 Marilyn Monroe's orange dress is the original one, it was designed and made in 1953, while the aajkal tere you saying is the inspired one and it was from 1968.

Designers today have nothing on this guy, his gowns were exquisite. ❤

Tbf this was not the type of clothes you'd wear everyday back then.
these are for movies and celeb events tho, not regular wear
@Dennis Plum regular clothes were extremely comfortable but also classy. Nowadays ppl just went for simple designs. Are they better? In my opinion no, but what can we do.
@Dennis Plum and if you get your period and ruin the outfit welp fuck that’s a lot of money down the fuckin drain
We need more designers like this.
Then tell the bigots and zealots to stop hating gay people. otherwise ya'all will end up wearing potato sacks again.

William Travilla. Not even a mention or an award. Even today, the academy owes him a statuette for his great designs. It shows me how little recognition and respect a clothing designer gets in the USA as opposed to Europe and Japan. Bravo Mr Travilla.

The outfits from back then are so classy.
The costume designer, William Travilla, was one of cinema’s greatest, and Marilyn was an ideal muse - a dream for any designer. Not only was her figure show-stopping, but her radiance and personality were mesmerizing. Although she wasn’t a fashion model, she showcased a designer’s clothes better than a seasoned runway model thanks to her irresistible charisma. Travilla and Marilyn were a match made in Heaven.
В молодости Мэрилин училась на модель и была моделью
@@SerafimaVyuzhnaya She wasn’t a high fashion model, which required a different body type and skill in order to showcase clothes. The modeling she did in her youth was more cheesecake, pin up and girl next door. Fashion models had thin mannequin figures rather than soft feminine figures. They presented clothes with a prescribed walk and gestures that were unique and stylized to that industry.
Imagine having your designs worn this way. It will make you feel like you achieved everything all at once
I’m thinking they had a relationship beyond designer and actress. Those gowns were made with love.

That was influenced by indian style crop off shoulder suit it's very common in indian functions 💕😇
@@aishwaryarai01 yes, the reason I love Indian designers the dresses are always so elegant and unique
i agree!

Thats her designer Billy Travilla. The b/w pic of her in fishnet & chains costume was the original design planned for her 'Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend' song number. It was deemed too vulgar by the Studio, so the famous pink evening gown was designed instead. Edit: shortly before , her gold pleated gown at an awards ceremony had attracted huge public disapproval because she obviously wasnt wearing any underwear. So the studio wanted to dial back the sexiness.
