Homemade Honey Extractor

2021 ж. 13 Нау.

Last September we ran into an emergency situation when we suddenly needed to extract honey from our three new beehives. It was during the peak of the 2020 pandemic, living in the high elevation of the Rockies and far away from any stores, meant we had to design and build our own honey extractor, and with Nanny's help we did it in just a few days. Here we are sharing a story on how it was done.

  • Hello to you and Nanny. Thank you for this informative video on the process of creating the honey extractor. Nanny’s design plan worked out purrrfect. You both are so talented. She also is such a good instructor making sure you abide by all construction and safety protocols. I love how you mirrored the honey extractor from the one your grandmother used. I’m sure you have wonderful memories of that time with her. Also, such a smart idea placing the bee containers up high on a sturdy container because bears 🐻 can be so mischievous especially when they smell food. I enjoyed your video as always and look forward to the next one. What’s Nanny got planned next? Thank you! Give Nanny a hug. 😻

He’s developed very strong romantic feelings towards her and is so impressed with her many skills and abilities to keep a happy home and in good working order...most of all he appreciates how she protects her two and four-legged family. Buster also has a family, he’s in charge of horses, donkeys, dogs and is bilingual. He’s learned so much from sweet Nanny abt technical skills and he sends thanks for the many beautiful videos.

  • Nanny is a most beautiful engineer [I would easily put her up against all the engineers I have studied with since 1970 in the Texas A&M University system!], and the perfect partner to your master carpentry and mechanical skills! Had this been any of my cats, they would have dragged their fur through all the glues to make a sticky mess as well as huge cat fur matts, and then eaten ALL the extracted honey. Sigh.

  • Wow! What a great video. I see Nanny is keeping you on your toes( just like every good supervisor). When you show videos of Dandy grazing through the valley I realized you are probably getting some dandelion honey. This year I noticed the bees on the dandelions in my yard. I have now decided to leave them alone because the bees love them. Keep up the great videos. Love to Nanny too. ❤️

  • This is so wonderful having bees on top of a container to protect them from honey loving bears. Bees are so important for us pollinating flowers on fruit trees etc. They are essential for the flora and fauna and to me very cute just like bumblebees. Fresh honey is also delicious and healthy and even good to use on wounds and could bee helpful eating if you are allergic to pollen. It was quite common to have bees here in Sweden before but beekeeping has come back too and some keep bees on rooftops in the bigger cities. I think sweet Nanny was an excellent engineer constructing an non destructive to the honeycombs honey extractor. We call that machine a honungs slunga on Swedish. It's very good that Nanny is very strict with the safety rules so her dad can't hurt himself. I love to see the handy craftsmanship and the way you both do things together. Your finished product looks so nice and yes they give the bees sugar syrup here too during the winter. Your honey extractor reminds me of a summer meadow where you hear and see buzzing bees being busy and that's a very fine memory to have. Lots of love and big hugs to the sweet engineer and her master! Susanne
