  • Much praise to the guys who are willing and $$able$$ to keep these planes flying. Radial engines are fuel thirsty, maintenance intensive, toys.

    @acmm50@acmm503 ай бұрын
    • My thoughts exactly. I've had a lot of Harleys and some were more cold natured than others depending on the carbs mostly. Those radials when they first start turning sound like they'll only make a few revs before they start flying apart.

    • Son of a Bitch 2nd Class! Everyone hated it but I love the Helldiver. My neighbor when I was a kid flew them in WWII from a carrier who’s name escapes me at the moment. He said once he figured it out he loved it.. preferred it to the Dauntless. Wish I could remember his name and the carriers name.

  • My first ever plane ride was in a 1934 beach stagger wing, with a Pratt Whitney R-985. When the owner saw the worried look in my face because of all the belching and backfiring, he just laughed and said wait till they all start dancing to the same tune! When they did all start firing, I heard a sound that will last me forever! The closest description I can come to is being surrounded by 4 1/2 Harley Davidson‘s Been hooked ever since !!!
