And it was like somebody threw up on it! Watch how I restored this beauty using tried-and-true leather restoration and repair techniques.

    • Hi Lyssa thanks for your wonderful videos. I love them so much. However I’m reading a lot of research online that is saying do not use shoe polish on handbags because it can cause wax buildup and transfer to your clothes. I have already bought the shoe polish. And I was looking forward to using it. Have you had any difficulties with it transferring to your clothes?

    • @@ronnibryant7863 I use a 1/4 cup of vinegar in the cold water wash to sanitize my clothes. I recently read it also will help dissolve the excess build up of coating from dryer sheets that is not good for clothes so it will probably do the same for wax .

  • Great job restoring this classic shoulder bag. The point is to restore the bag, not necessarily make it look brand new. My late father was in the US Cavalry at the start of WWII and would tell me how they would care for the saddles - a bit of wear only makes it look better - he would say. He always took time out to preserve all of our leather goods growing up and I continue this practice today. I have Coach and Lara bags that are 40 years old and still look great - not showroom perfect, but I wouldn't trade them for all the $500 bags in the world. Kudos 😊

Knowing how to care for what you buy, like our Elders did, is thrifty and wise. I ended up giving it away a little while ago to someone who worked on, and sews leather. We agreed on it's a lot to do with what its made of, and how it's done. Burkin, Coach, etc. are expensive and "niche" clientele, but I could never buy something that just sits around...just to say I own one! Beautiful job!!! Hope it gets loved and used often.

I use a cloth to put on the leather conditioner but I like how you do it so gently and sparsely. I do think it is a waste to not keep a good leather bag - or shoes and coats for that matter - in a good state. Thankfully there is still hope for neglected leather products. Love the result!

  • I have vintage Coach leathers too. They are going to my daughter / granddaughter after I go. 😁 After scrounging around online for the styles I did not purchase. Some are great vintage shape and plenty not. Some observations, others might contribute and comment, please ! Coach leathers are vulnerable to wear on the metals, edges of wear, obvious. Clean up the spills asap. Clean, preserve leather often, don’t over weight the bag. For heaven’s sake, keep it off the bathroom stall floor(!) and restaurant floors, under table. Each bag you have has a history & memories, cherish them all. Save the Coach for the relatives you love (!) and one more anecdote: I was walking past a outlet Coach store. A make Retail worker opened the door as I walked by and said, “I saw your bag! It’s awesome and vintage. I love it!” I said - I know. And thank you! P.s. thank you for video.

The usual things but she also taught me to look at how things are made so when you take them apart you know how to replace them and in what order. Whether it be simple mechanical repairs, rewiring lamps or replacing faucets to save a few pennies I can still hear my grandmother's mantra: use it up or wear it out make it do or do without".
