The glaciers of the Pamir mountains, which provide over 50% of Central Asia's water resources, are rapidly melting at a rate similar to Greenland's continental glacier. Three generations of of Pamiri women share the impacts of the melt and decreasing water levels.

It's some of Pamirian languages. They are Eastern Iranian languages which was languges of Central Asia before Arab invasion.

Ervin Khosroshahi, maybe you don't understand because they don't speak Persian. I think they speak different language in Pamir mountains but it's still iranic language so that's why it resembles a little like Persian.
I speak their language, and they were stuttering a lot. Some of the translations were off as well. Surprisingly it was hard for me to understand them, 2 of them had thick accents.
There are ancient cultures and languages in the Pamirs. Turkic Kyrghiz ,Tajiks Kalash, Brusho, Yaghnobi There's some linguistic and genetic significance in the weaving of the story of the human right there in the Pamir.
I understand these people! They have a reallg strong accent ! but its very much Irannic linguistically!
Mr. Potato man they speak different languages, for they are varied, although similar and yes, Iranic. I am not sure but I think the first lady was speaking Khufi, and the girl was speaking Shughni.

Anyone know where I can find more videos or documentaries of these Pamir people? I especially want to know where I could possibly find the "song" she is singing.
Some ethnic Pamiris live in west-most part of Xinjiang, China. But they are called Tajiks in China. Their traditional way of life is still preserved and it's worth to visit their town if you have chances. If you understand Chinese, you can find a lot of documentaries about them and their songs in KZhead.

very beautiful the Pamir, the people are nice, Chorog looks great. I think I must come with my small VW bus to visit these amazing mountains and I hope there are not religious fanatics like on the other side at Afghanistan.
I am visiting there in a few months, while having your own car would obviously be better there is public transport along the Pamir highway, along the Afghan border for an entire day drive, breathtaking views.

daryo he probably means avestan, which is more closely related to this language (shughni). persian and shughni are both iranian languages but modern persian comes out of pars and not khorasan thus are not very much intelligible

taj ik321 No. I think the *proto-Indo-Iranians* looked like her. The Sintashta culture. The Persians never looked like her, because in Iran there was Elamite civilization before the Aryan invasion, so the few invading Aryans mixed with the Elamites and formed Persia. Elam was Middle Eastern genetically. And in Central Asia the Aryans mixed with local farmers as well (Bactria-Margiana Archeological Complex). We don't know what the farmers looked like but obviously they were far from white. As for Arab invasions, they left a rather small genetic impact in Iran and barely any in Central Asia. In CA it was the Turco-Mongols who altered the genetic make up in a profound way.
