  • Played this at my uncle's funeral 2 days ago. He loved The Verve and saw them live in Wigan in 1998. We were torn on what song to pick but I was having a look through his CDs last week and found this song as a single, and the choice was made. The tears were flowing when it came on but it was a beautiful moment. Until we meet again Martin. 1974-2022 💙

I’m suddenly torn back to 1997, remembering just how intensely this album resonated with me during those late 90’s years. Beautiful, soul-touching music. To the members of the Verve, thank you. Your music was there when i needed to know I wasn’t alone in this terrible melancholy.

They sold bucket loads of Urban Hymns, hit number 1 with The Drugs don't work, headlined festivals, and like someone here said, virtually everyone at the time owned Urban Hymns!!! They were loved by the music press, radio 1, virgin radio etc etc. If that's them 'underrated' then god I would love to have been in such an underrated band!!!

All I need to do is play a song maybe three times, tell a story about the song or the singer and my daughters are hooked🙂. It brings me comfort to know that all these songs I lived for are now loved by my little girls, and that they form an unbreakable connection between us that will remain long after I'm gone.
