Biker Plays With His Life Trying To Evade Arkansas State Police

On April 11, 2024 at approximately 5:06PM, I attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a maroon in color Honda motorcycle bearing Arkansas registration 122FY on the off ramp of US Highway 62 near State Highway 5. The traffic stop led to the arrest of Troy Gessner on a felony fleeing charge and numerous other misdemeanor charges. While traveling eastbound on US Highway 62 Bypass near State Highway 201, I observed the vehicle listed above traveling the same direction ahead of me. I observed the operator of the motorcycle weaving in and out of traffic in a reckless manner. After the motorcycle cleared the traffic, I observed it to accelerate at a high rate of speed continuing eastbound on the bypass. I
activated the front antenna of my patrol unit's radar which gave a digital readout of 80mph in a posted 60mph zone. I activated my overhead emergency lights in attempt to catch up with the vehicle. I was able to catch the motorcycle as it exited the bypass
and onto the off-ramp to State Highway 5. I activated my audible siren to signal for the driver to yield. The motorcycle turned right (southbound) onto State Highway 5 and continued traveling past the Baxter County Road and Bridge Department. The operator of the motorcycle revved the engine and merged into the continuous left-turn lane and accelerated at a high rate of speed passing other vehicles who were traveling north and southbound. I advised Troop I-Harrison Communications that I was in active pursuit of the motorcycle and to contact a supervisor. The motorcycle continued southbound on State Highway 5 at a reckless high rate of speed. The operator of the motorcycle traveled southbound in the northbound lane numerous times almost causing numerous collisions to innocent bystanders. As the pursuit entered Salesville, the motorcycle continued onto State Highway 177 after running a posted stop sign. The motorcycle continued southbound on State Highway 177 near the Norfork Dam. As the motorcycle passed the National Fish Hatchery, it passed a school bus who was traveling northbound. The operator continued up the hill towards the top of the dam.
The operator failed to negotiate a curve near Quarry Road which caused the motorcycle to exit the roadway left and overturn. As I pulled up on the scene, I observed the operator to stand up from the ground and place his hand in the air. I gave verbal commands for the operator to get on his stomach. The operator complied and I was able to place the operator into custody without further incident. I advised Troop I Communications to send an ambulance to my location to have the operator checked out. The operator identified himself as Troy Gessner 08-20-1994. Troy stated he ran because he didn't have a motorcycle
endorsement. While speaking with Troy, I could smell a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from his person. Troy admitted he had some marijuana roaches on his person and that he had smoked about an hour and a half earlier. I observed Troy to have bloodshot/glassy eyes and dilated pupils. Due to possibly sustaining serious injury from the wreck, no Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were given. During search incident to arrest, I located a cigarette pack in Troy's jacket pocket. Within the pack, I located numerous burnt marijuana cigarettes (roaches).
Once the ambulance arrived on scene, Troy was transported to Baxter Health in Mountain Home, AR to seek further medical attention. I traveled to Baxter Health and made contact with Troy who was getting treatment by medical professionals. I read Troy the Arkansas Statement of Rights and he agreed to submit to a urine test. The urine test was obtained in a room within the emergency room. After giving an adequate sample, Troy stated and signed that he did not want a second test at his own expense. Moments later, Troy was discharged from the hospital. I transported Troy to the Baxter County Sheriff's Office where he was
book in on the following charges:
Fleeing in a Vehicle (Class C Felony)
Reckless Driving (Unclassified Misd)
Possession of Marijuana (Class A Misd)
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class A Misd)
DWI-Drugs (Class A Misd) Fail to Obey Stop Sign (Unclassified Misd) Riding without a Motorcycle License (Unclassified Misd) Speeding more than 15mph Over Limit (Unclassified Misd) Property Control An affidavit will be completed and forwarded to the Baxter County Prosecutor for further review.
The urine will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for further testing. The marijuana will be store in the evidence vault at Troop I Headquarters in Harrison.

    • They may as well be on a different planet. In their own little world, half of them are probably staring down at the phone in their lap more than even looking out the windshield. There could be a parade behind them and they'd never know about it

    • It's truly astonishing. Every driver should be at least glancing at their rearview mirror AT LEAST once every 15 seconds. It also doesn't help that automakers are now making car windows with TRIPLE pane glass, to cut down on noise. I also think there's just a lot of scumbags who pretend they're oblivious because they hate the police, too. Many factors.

    • @@truthteller4442 The laminated glass isn't for sound. It's a federal law that all side windows be laminated glass just like the windshield to prevent ejections in accidents . I'm almost deaf in one ear. I hear sirens way off with the windows up. And I am constantly looking in my mirrors like you are supposed to do .

    • @@brianpage7569 I get it, you don't like motorcycle riders. There are VASTLY more videos of police chases involving cars than motorcycles. I'll admit a factor is probably that in most cases motorcycles get away and that doesn't make a very good video. I'll guess you are also one of the people who subscribe to the belief that it's appropriate for the police to seriously endanger the lives of innocent road users to catch a person for a traffic offence, no matter what. In nearly all these videos, that is what is occurring, from either the reckless driving of the police vehicle or the person they are chasing. The ONLY person in danger from recklessly riding a motorcycle is the rider themselves.

If the cop comes up behind me with his lights on, I don't know if he's after me or someone else. If he's after me, and I speed up to get back into the right lane in front, then I look like I'm trying to get away and/or increased the amount of speed that he can write me a ticket for. On the other hand, if I slow down to tuck back right behind the other car, and he's after someone else, then I've just slowed him down. What's the right thing to do there?

  • The only times you get away is if you are on a sportbike and get far enough ahead and then get off the highway and hidden... OR if you have enough dirt capability to go off road where they can't follow like through a forest and then get hidden- of course if they can read your plate it doesn't matter much although it may get you out of a dui at the cost of the running charges.

  • This has got to be one of the only law enforcement that drive over a hundred miles an hour with no lights and sirens you do that in any other department and you're getting fired and I'm sure that's not their protocol but I see them doing it all the time in these videos just ask the trooper in Florida that got fired for that after he caused a major accident

  • Wrong kind of bike to run on. A Harley would be last on my list. Any fat cruiser. The hint is in the name - Cruiser. Need a sport bike, or better yet, an adventure bike, so you can off road where 2 wheels is an advantage.

  • Running from the cops in a car is playing with fire but on a bike your playing with the reaper, more so on a cruiser, big heavy bikes, so many more dangerous things can easily just happen and your in trouble, no protection you get in a car even though even in a car when your numbers called your times up,
