And they hinder growth and development in great franchises. They tend to act like the works are biblical and have to be verbatim. Any artist, designer, creative will tell you when opportunity allows, push the creative further when possible. I know the series is not near the books but it is clear the books were dated and far too cerebral. I love where the show is going and it’s much needed right now. But also I look at it this way - it’s fun when books and shows don’t completely mirror one another. Gives more content and possibilities. We will hear much more bemoaning for the “purists” next week when Dune launches. Be ready.

  • The beauty of Foundation was always in that so much was glossed over by the jump from period to period, crisis to crisis. The re-imagining and expansion of that universe in the new series is phenomenal - and I think Asimov would appreciate the changes made because they flesh out his work and build upon them in a way that honours the original without being wholly beholden to it. This scene was horrific, stunning and an absolute masterpiece when it came to showcasing the brutality and decadence of an Empire moving towards implosion. Cleon represents strength in this moment, not realising that his actions and lack of mercy are only going to accelerate the decline of what he has built. Even more amusingly, this was all in the aftermath of Hari Seldon's predictions: that the darkness would come, and that the Galaxy would experience decay and decline before it might return to light. Cleon knew this prediction, feared it, and then did his level best to inaugurate said decline with these attacks. It's fantastic artistry.

    @aslyn8943@aslyn89432 жыл бұрын
    • When I saw this scene, I thought the Empire was going at this all wrong. What does killing 2 worlds do for the Empire actions of a couple individuals? Nothing but a brief moment of fear and a lot more new enemies that will bide their time towards the goal of bringing down the Empire. Also, both ambassadors kept constantly insisting their worlds had nothing to do with it, even through the Empire's torture. At that point, if I was in the Empire's shoes, I would then say, "You say you're people weren't responsible, then prove it. Under penalty of (what just happened to in this scene) your planets must pay Trantor half of their total GDP until they themselves find the group responsible for these attacks and send them over the the Empire. They will be interrogated and then made an example of. The planets will have their GDP reparaitions halved upon confirmation that these are the guys responsible (No random farmers who had nothing to do with it. You try to pull that, then this scene will happen). That tax will then continue another 100 years, and upon the complete payment of that tax with no late payments, all will be forgiven. Late payments, non-payments, or presenting people not responsible, then this scene will play out." That way you can greatly extract resources from these 2 worlds while the burden is on them to find the one's responsible as the incentive is to try to reduce the burdensome tax enacted on them. Also, I just realized that the way Seldon is able to predict so many constantly changing variables in the galaxy so well, is because of Empire himself. He is the only constant in the centuries of calculations and actions of individuals. Since the genetic dynasty is practically the same person, then they will behave the same way to every situation. He is the only individual that you can predict the actions of, and thereby compare in Seldon's math calculations on how the empire will fall.
