The BIGGEST TOWBOAT on the MISSISSIPPI RIVER The M/V Mississippi
Like I said in the intro it's been a long time coming for this one. The United States Army Corps of Engineers M/V MISSISSIPPI. She was moving right along at aprox. 8 mph which limited my time making the video. The audio is also from this boat but she wasn't making very much noise as she went by.

She came to Davenport Iowa in 2013 I believe it was, and I had the privilege of going on her with my friend and we ended up meeting the lady who is in charge of all the purchasing for the ship. And we bought a fleece jacket and some hats from her. She was so nice she had the greatest job. It's really an educational exhibit too the way they had it set up. I absolutely love it! One of the best things my tax dollars have ever been spent on. She came back to Davenport in 2020 but there was COVID and you couldn't go on her. That made me very sad. I'd say she makes it up here about once every 7 or 8 years.
that's a big boat, 5 levels, 3 engines, 2 lifeboats!
She is truly a river monster , a floating housing & office complex for those who manage the big muddy
Anyplace seeing the Mississippi River is still my favorite place in the world. I wish I could move closer to the Mississippi but I’m stuck.
That is a beast. Thank you for sharing. I live in the Southern San Joaquin Valley of California and would never have the pleasure of watching one of these motor by much less the close-ups that your drone gets its exciting. I've spent a little time over many years around the Sacramento Delta but nothing like these waters. 😊
Mississippi 241 x 58 x 8 (3) cat 3606 diesel 2100 HP per 6300 HP 3 five blade props 93" diameter, 59,883 gallons diesel forward 20,352 gallons aft burns 6,270 a day shoving 16 barges $23,447.321 when built in 1993. The steam towboat Sprague was 276 x 61 x 7.6 and if she had been running today would still be the largest towboat built ran from 1902-1948, she will always be THE towboat.
Thanks for the specs. What an amazing ship.
1993 $, what a deal
Nice catch. That is a very impressive boat. Thanks for sharing.
With the pampering and light duty this boat we see, the boat will out live the most of us
Excellent video/ Thanks for bringing it to us.
That is one serious vessel! Great video!
That's one big boat. Great catch.
Thanks for sharing very impressive video, really great 👌 excellent photography congratulations 👍
I’m proud of our army corps having such a great vessel. It has and will continue to serve our country’s river systems well.
It must take monster power to push that barge!!! :)
With 3 engines and being that size, I’d venture to guess around 3000 HP each so 9 or 10K HP total
@@OSUfan757 I thought it would take a lot more than that, given how huge that barge is! :)
This must be a new boat with the rotating engines. The Corps has another monster that is a dredge, and older, that works its way around.
What a monster.
M/V Mississippi IV is landlocked in downtown Vicksburg, MS.
My dad was first mate in 1996 and also passed away on it July 8th 1996
My condolences to you for losing your Dad but very proud of him for serving on such a wonderful ship.
Condolences to you & your family for your loss. May his memory be a blessing.
Todo este tamanho o senhor sabe quantas barras ele pode levar
That is a beautiful machine. I see the guy mopping on topside, I know it is much easier that swabbing a Navy ship loaded with dried sea salt.
do you ever hear from Saucy ???
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA tugboat
the largest tow boat on the entire USA river system Pushes ONLY One barge and all that on OUR taxpayer nickel!!!! with Absolutely NO comprehensive reason for spending that kind of money WOW!
Oh whatever. You have no clue why they have only one barge in this video, yet you spout off. There could be multiple logical reasons.
The largest commercial towboat was the Sprague en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sprague_(towboat)
What if your drone hit it? The Skipper might get angry. Lol
waste of taxpayers dollars.
Agreed, been on it and its a peice of junk
At least it doesn't rob you or rape you or murder you in thanks for wasting taxpayer dollars on it.
