Women aren't usually offended if a joke is genuinely funny & witty whilst done with a knowing nudge and wink, from my experience. You can be bawdy and even provocative if it's done without malice and the lady is in on the joke. Be clever, playful and joyous and women are as good a sport as a man is. Apparently DB was appearing the week after DSB at a venue in the north of England. He was dying for a lag and asked the Caretaker were are the loo's. So the janitor took him down to bowels of the theatre and showed him a sink. DB said "do you expect me to piss in that". The caretaker replied" listen mate, if its good enough for Shirley Bassey its good enough for you so get on with it".Shirley has always kept her common touch even though she is a superstar.

Loved that man as a kid growing up! What a class act! He was a true comedian that knew how to spin a yarn! ❤️👏👏👏👏🍻🍻
You can't beat the old English comedy from the 50s to the 80s. I was brought up seeing them on the telly or listening on the wireless. Love them all.
You are bang on the money .........
Yes,even here in Ireland we can vouch for that. The comedy shows on the Light Programme in the fifties and sixties were superb...The Navy Lark, Meet the Huggets, The Clitheroe kid etc
The Glums on the wireless
As a musician I know how hard it is to make deliberate mistakes like that. It just goes to show how good a musician he was. I'm sure we all miss Les, he was surely one of kind.
"I've played in clubs where they showed their appreciation, not by applauding, but by letting you live." RIP Les..
😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yes rest easy les, you were the best x
He said that on Parkinson
Lol. I never heard this before but its so funny - working mens clubs in north of england - took real bravery to perform at them.
One of my Favourite Videos, Les so Sadly Missed
Brilliant again Les Dawson, and Shirley couldn't contain herself, May You Rest in Peace Les Dawson and Shirley Stay Safe, Laughter we Need in These Troubled Times, Stay Safe Everyone, XX

Les Dawson one of the greats of comedy and Shirley Bassey such a beautiful woman
Nobody can do this comedy today. Truly the best. Les would have you on the floor laughing at his one liners. How we all miss him today. RIP Les Dawson, gone, but never ever forgotten.
True. But it was his love of language and the way he used it too that showed true genius!
Only Les Dawson,. ONLY Les Dawson,. could get away with saying: "Thank you, Vera!",.. to Shirley Bassey. Legend!
From time when women weren't offended at the slightest remarks. Full marks to Shirley Basset, a true lady.
Loved it, when Les said thankyou Vera
I guess it takes allsorts.
She was a hound
Her husband Bertie was quite a character.
Women aren't usually offended if a joke is genuinely funny & witty whilst done with a knowing nudge and wink, from my experience. You can be bawdy and even provocative if it's done without malice and the lady is in on the joke. Be clever, playful and joyous and women are as good a sport as a man is. Women are only offended if a bloke is an unfunny vindictive and ladish tw@t.
I could watch les over and over and still laugh. He was a comedy genius. He is sadly missed.
Les Dawson was a superb pianist. It takes a lot of talent to play a piano that way.
Heaven will always laugh and shine with these comedy legend's. Rest in peace Mr Dawson.
Cissie and Ada together making everyone laugh!
It takes incredible talent to play the wrong notes when you know what the right ones are.
This was the era when comedians were funny not like today's so called comedians, there is not one of the so called funny men I have laughed a
Absolutely!!!!!!!
Very True
My grandad, a muso in his extra time, always said “you’ve got to be able to play it good before you can play it bad - and make them laugh”
This is my idea of heaven. Les was the warmest, funniest comedian, and Shirley the most beautiful talented star.
If any of the modern comedians ,want to learn about timing and audience control without racism or foul language just look at the master ,because you will never find a better teacher than Les.

He's adorable! She's a treasure!
my god this is British comedy at it's best i miss Les, and Shirley is wonderful to appear on both legends of t v !.
The second he goes "Hallo son." it gets her and me everytime, brilliant RIP BIG MAN!
You came from Cardiff, where you worked on the docks. Classic!
"After 15 years the wife's run away with the man next door, oh I do miss him" Poor old Shirley!
A truly great comeidian
Watching in 2020. Love how he keeps a straight face and Shirley is laughing her head off. Priceless
This one is just about my favourite Les skit😀
Yes dear i totally agree with you... Hope you're having a great day 👍
The word "Legend" gets touted a lot these days , but he was a true legend . God bless , Les .
Brilliant sketch, Les was just phenomenal, hilarious, and here with Shirley. A gem of a clip this one.
He even managed to make 'Blankety Blank' watchable!! 😂🤣
Shirley was brilliant in the Morcambe and Wise sketch. If you've not seen it do a quick search.
I have just cried with laughter at this appearance of les, & Shirley. A great chemistry. True, "stars". What a tonic. One of the greatest, singers, & a top-drawer, comedian. Excellent!
Two legends together how I miss those days
Les Dawson was by a country mile the best stand-up comic this country ever produced. He was just absolutely superb, his timing was genius, he had Shirley Bassey in bits here on her own show😁😁😁😁
Well said and true.
2nd to Ken Dodd
He was sitting down though ..... 😏
Seriously the best, haven't you heard of Dave Allen (even though he did sit down).
ive said somewhere on you tube but i firmly believe that after les died comedy was never quite the same again
I once heard Shirley sing climb every mountain from sound of music, she like an operatic soprano as proved she had a very good range for a vocalist.
The master at work. Shirley just creasing up with laughter........like the rest of us. Nothing around like Les today. The best of the best. And, 28 years after his death, in 2021 still the best. Nobody can come even close to matching Les's abilities in writing, humor, and music. His timing alone could leave the so called comedians of today standing, and without smut, bad language, or insult. More than just talented. More than just funny. A true genius and a legend. The peoples comedian, loved then by us all, and still loved and treasured today. No wonder that Les was so morose. His whole life had been one heck of a roller coaster of failure until he came on Opportunity Knocks. Thank goodness his wife Meg put him in for that. Thank goodness Les was found. RIP Les, Meg, and Roy. The angels are now amused.
Simply brilliant. No politics, no nonsense, just damn funny jokes. Modern so-called comedians need to watch this.
...and no swearing.
The very best and just so natural
They wouldn't understand it. Sadly.
Two lovely people, creased up as always, what a laugh Shirley has!
Shirley Bassey - one of the few genuinely great female entertainers.
Les Dawson, brilliant...Shirley Bassey, gorgeous and brilliant
So loved les so funny great man
Absolutely brilliant and such happy memories of les
Les is brilliant and Shirley is really good crack. She was on the Morcome and Wise show too.
He's so good. So good - Shirley can't stop laughing! Love it!
This is something of pure comedic genius on so many levels. No judges complaints heard or the crowd making horrible noises.
One of the greatest british comics of all time alongside frankie howard .ken dodd. morcambe and wise .All sadly missed.God bless you all.
That’s it, that’s the best ever right there in your list
I'd add the Two Ronnies and Tommy Cooper.
@@Idcanymore510 these 2 are the best of the best 🙂💖👍
So much talent in one clip. How beautiful was Shirley? And that powerful voice! Les was a genius wordsmith and pianist, takes talent to know exactly which notes to get wrong to get the laugh. Gone way too soon.
Yes dear i totally agree with you... Hope you're having a great day 👍
I loved it when Les Dawson said his wife ran off with the bloke next door & he missed him. Every Shirley Bassey cracked up laughing when he said that. Fantastic
I wish this was a thousand times longer. He made me laugh. Shirl made me laugh. The fact that both are so relaxed as well as clearly enjoying every minute is addictive. I came across this gem last week. I'd need a calculator to work out how many times I have watched this since then. God bless the pair of them for making me smile.
The great Les Dawson, showing us why we loved him so much.
"I told you to wait in the truck." There's to many, it's all geniuis
Anyone born after say 1990 has no idea how good TV used to be except by watching KZhead. Two great artists. Dear Les such a wordsmith and Shirley not only a great singer and stage performer but a super gagsters moll.
How lucky you are to have been a gangster at the right time to have Shirley as a moll! I know most performers have to work two jobs when they are starting out
so very true Butch...great tv days
Butch 78 then it’s out duty to let them know! 🙂
Grew up watching Les’ stuff and presenting Blankety Blank. Never seen this one though. What an absolute joy to watch Shirley being entertained just as much as us.
Absolutely wonderful, magnificent comedian, and this sketch with a legendary singer is absolutely superb,it flows along ,the timing, punchlines, and a relaxed natural laughter

@@terencebarrett2897 Okay.. Where are you from if you don't mind me asking?
Having listened to Les many times during his career, many comedy acts should follow his example of being clean cut family viewing for young and old to enjoy. Tears of joy is what Les represented that is why people Loved him.
He was a gentleman, and a clean cut comic 😂 😂 😂 Miss Bassy was a babe and a fantastic singer, they were both great together, Nuns going around in two mugging people 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂, she is so trying hard to keep it together.
Les is still a comedy legend. Miss you Les, love you Les. X
Im only 21, and I've grown up seeing and listening to many comedians, but I have found the ones that make me laugh the most are old ones like Les. Back when the BBC had stricter rules the true comedians shone through by working around the limitations or finding subtle ways past it (Round the Horne especially!). It's a shame people don't comedy like this anymore ... Thank you for uploading this! =D
Les is a standout though - his humour has stood the test of time amazingly well.
I think you've hit the nail on the head there - back then rules were stricter so people had to use innuendo to get round things. The Carry on films were perfect proof of that. Has relaxing the rules made things any funnier? No, I think it's got worse. Is Frankie Boyle funnier than Les Dawson? Sorry, he couldn't lace his boots. I'm Scottish btw.
Blame political correctness for the lack of good comedy on television.
Thats the best statement pc has destroyed every thing imagine love thy neighbor on now unyet back then it was real comedy and never an issue pc has made racism bad now.
@@Peter-kl8jg Spot on!!

They don't tell em like that anymore. And Shirley so beautiful.
Thank you Vera !
Whenever i knew Les was on tv i could not miss watching him and making me laugh, we need him back on tv so much!
Les Dawson defined Alternative Comedy as comedy that doesn't get laughs. Which is a good joke in itself.
The second he does his Dad saying "Hallo son." He has her. Genius absolute genius. The much missed Les Dawson
The incomparable, the irreplaceable Les Dawson at his best.
What I loved about Les was he and Tommy Cooper could say the best one liners.
Hilarious he was really funny and she was so down to earth . Love them both
can't beat the old comedy can't stop watching 😄 🤣 😆
One of the wonderful things about that first "tune" was that with each note, it just got worse and worse... and better and better! Les was a genius... and Shirley, was just gorgeous!!!
Michael Rawson Shirley is still gorgeous!
@@robertwright88:... No argument there...!
God we have lost some great talent.......loved this era of comedy..never to be replaced...
Wonderful heart-warming laughter from the late lamented 'Master' of 'old' British music hall style humour. Shirl. was a fabulous foil for Les. too. WONDERFUL!!
Best comedian ever, wish he was still here, bought so much fun and laughter too peoples lives,Shirley still as beautiful and sings as wonderful today.

Shirley Bassey....What a fabulously beautiful lady, and here, with Les, two stars in their prime.
It was clear that Les went off script deliberately to make poor Shirley Laugh.
These two are the best of British in their respective fields. My favourite story regarding Shirley as told by David Bowie.
This was a genius at work and made Shirley laugh and maybe even forget for a while that she was on host duties on the show....
What’s good for wind ….. he gave me a kite 😂😂😂
How we miss this man , like Ken Dodd , Dick Emery to name a couple more of the comedy greats , subtle humour with nothing vulgar a constant flow of gags and sketches .
GLORIOUS, thanks for sharing.
What a fabulous combination, two absolute stars who you would think had no reason to work together, goes to show when such talent collides the result is pure genius on both parties.
This just shows how good Les Dawson was. Shirley Bassey can't keep a straight face..
Loved Les, and adore Shirley Bassey two great legends
She couldn’t keep a straight face singing either 😂 loved her and les brilliant
"Your show is a laugh an hour" "That's one more than you, pal!"
Two legends in one clip ......... The story is, at the begining Les was doing the night clubs with little success, feeling down he had a bit to drink and went on stage and started playing the piano drunk. He started playing wrong and the audience laughed so hard, he then realised that was his ticket to success. Combined with his brilliant wit no other comedian would ever reach his level. I miss him ............
Les was a true genius. He could make me laugh without saying anything!.
If Les, came back today he'd be shocked! Utterly shocked at the madness that is 2019. 😢
And the madness continues, 2020.
