About AI being autonomous and sentient - you might be surprised. All what is needed for the current AI to reach AGI is extended long term memory and ability to learn. It can already write it's own codebase and it does things which shouldn't be possible

I'm not sure how much you know about AI technology but if your knowledge is at a basic level then you probably heard about something called 'Langchain' and/or 'vector stores' - that's how you can relatively easily add long term memory to already existing models...

100%. The last two in particular were a little more unnerving. The idea that an AI somewhere out there is close to crossing the line into sentience and we can't tell, or that AI are able to learn how to do things their creators never intended.
AI cannot become sentient. It can develop a scheme of behavior and complex utterances that mimic sentience, but there is nothing behind than soulless machine logic. It may appear human-like but it never is and will never be. Intelligence cannot be the criterion, a tea strainer can distinguish between water and leaves.

The one thing that smacked me in the face was that they are training it to re-write legal contracts. I was taught paperwork makes the world turn, if the right legal documents are re-written like our Constitution. I think that may lock 🔒🔐 us out of a lot of important things. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law. How to implement it on AI, a virus maybe?

Many (if not all) nation-states are developing AI technologies that can be used for good or harm. The problem with this AI is that they were used by the US govt in stalking ,accusing, and gravely punishing a subject prematurely. That later on they found out that they hunted and judged the wrong person, but already destroyed and damaged that person's life. The answer "We just don't know where AI is headed" is a totally insufficient answer from corporate America. "First to Market" impulses must be regulated carefully. We could be racing toward results that are more disasterous than beneficial.
If you could (somehow) destroy the Earth's ENTIRE power grid, AI would be totally shut down. Humans would still survive, admittedly meagerly, but they could exist beyond AI. Maybe it's a good plot for a sci-fi movie.
