Could TEXAS be richer without the U.S?

The U.S. flag has 50 stars, one for each state, but 49 would be the number of states that would remain if Texas succeeds in seceding from the United States. This may seem unlikely but the idea of Texas being an independent nation gains popularity from time to time. The last time the issue returned to the debate was in late 2021 when Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz said the following, "the state should secede if Democrats fundamentally destroy the U.S...we´re not there yet, and if there comes a point where it´s hopeless, then I think we take NASA, the military and the oil. On the other hand the Texas Nationalist Movement, a group that launched a campaign known as Texit, alluding to Brexit from the European Union, seeks to hold a statewide referendum on secession or separation from Texas. According to its website, more than 489,000 Texans support their work to make Texas an independent nation again. So the questions are: why does it want independence, can it really do it, and if it did, could it prosper without the United States?
