The petrol version would have been nicer - as it is far more refined befitting of a Jaguar - (but we can't all be winners!!) Mike
Love these videos where you buy these dog rough cars and we get to see it finished in the same video, top work Matt keep them coming 👍
There are you tubers who are professional valets and it is truly hypnotizing to see what they get and what they return after cleaning. I vividly remember one Peugeot 207 where the passenger footwell was up to and then spilling over onto the passenger seat - with fag butts.
£540 for the paintwork & repair is incredible value. I'd have guessed double that.
@Syst3M D3Cod3s yeah agree the timing chain cost seems excessive. Swings and roundabouts I suppose...
I had a quote of £1000 to repair a bumper , so yeah , that's a bargain
@Syst3M D3Cod3s They are very expensive repairs on these Jaguars and Land Rovers. Replacement engine fitted is at least £4000.
@Syst3M D3Cod3s A timing belt is designed to be replaced multiple times as part of a cars ongoing, regular maintenance. A timing chain is not. The fact that the job was done by a 'specialist' (guessing as it's a JLR specific engine, not a Ford one as someone intimated in another comment, that it was a Jaguar specialist) is also going to put the price up.
@Syst3M D3Cod3s it's not a ford engine though is it... . As stated multiple times in the video and written on the top engine to help you out, it's an Ingenium. Which is a JLR developed engine and nothing to do with the Ford/PSA engines used previously.
Great video Matt, I am big fan of your channel! I would buy this Jag for £8600 right now, especially that the Timing Chain has been done too!
Come on give him 9K already, you have a verified account 😉 make use of that KZhead money
Timing chain for 3 litre V6 XF Jag in France is about €1000 so £2K was expensive !
@@leruscino8498 Yes, but that 3L engine is petrol, so the chain is probably somewhat more accessible.
@@leruscino8498 different engine....
@@leruscino8498also the car is bigger so there is probably more room to work on making the labour cost quicker. I also have no idea what the VAT is in France but it’s 20% here
Recycling cars such as this makes such good sense. It saves natural resources, reduces carbon footprint, makes the recycler some profit, and employs people to do the work. And the profit can be used to recycle another vehicle. It really is an all round win! More power to you Matt, great content as ever as a further bonus.
Good comment 👍. One of the rather hidden issues regarding the big push to EV ownership is the huge wasted environmental cost of consigning perfectly good IC cars to the scrap pile 😔
@@PhilipBallGarry not to mention the impact of mining the lithium for the batteries
Absolutely Chris.. The carbon footprint of an electric car is massive and these older cars are excellent. Look at Cuba...they still have 50's American cars running strong.. maybe we should learn from them and re think our disposable mentality..
I agree, 10-15 year old cars aren't scrap as they were years ago. With the cost of everything being high it would make more sense to recondition older vehicles rather a constant supply of new leased vehicles. Guess it's become to normal to use and discard cars. That Jag messed with my OCD, never understood why someone buys a nice car and doesn't look after it.
"Imagine the state of these people's houses" - very good observation 👌
and normally what comes out of their mouths...
Not really. People with money rarely care about there cars.
a car is a meaning to a end to get you from a to b you don't live in it,my dad's never cleaned his car but house is always clean
@@anthonymichaeldurkin6244 and what goes into their mouths too!
A line that's muttered daily at my place when we get trade ins. We can only assume these people have the attitude of "It won't be our car after today... go on kids, have a shit in the glovebox"
When I saw 4k for an XE I immediately said wtf is wrong with it🤣
😂😂😂😂
Even with depreciation, it wouldn't go down to 4k, so yeah it was more than visual damage.
Never mind the damage. If it hasn’t had an engine it’ll need one. I’m only 5 mins in…..
Thank you mate for saving all these cars and putting them back on the road. I also think that fixing your oldie and polishing it is far better than signing long term loans for cheaply-made newer cars with more plastic in them each year. Really like your videos!
As an owner of a 2015 Jaguar XE I found that particularly interesting! Great car so far but the engine does sound like a tractor on start up. Mine was cheapish because it didn’t have a full service history but it was low mileage, 31000 miles. ( checked out on Car Vertical, thanks to your recommendation). Keep those videos coming please!
Jaguar with that mileage would be worth very much here in Finland. People prefer manuals and diesels. Obivously yes the damage is bad, but not counting that. Lovely old job again, thanks for the video! You really do make my days better, sounds silly to say but a little nice video like this to escape from the daily life.... perfection! :)
The 'gouge' on the rear quarter is not as scary as it looked, quite easy to cut it off, replace with a metal strip by spot weld /weld, sand smooth, then prime followed by paint , silver is an easier color to blend in.
Brilliant. One of your best videos to date IMO. (They're all great) Honest, interesting and amusing. Unbeatable.
One careful owner - obvsly kept the horse in the car. Great to see such a transformation -- you deserve every penny of anything made !!
Great video matt credit to you doing the work and not just botching it up and passing it on like your up front no nonsense honesty keep em coming 👏 👍
Wow, now that did impress me. The Jags never really have caught my eye, until now. The end result is very easy on the eyes. A job well done Mat. Best of luck with the sale.
This is the content I love to see. Older or higher millage cars that are fixed up and given some love....what a difference from when you picked it up.
I had a 2015 same model and loved the car but spending time on an XE forum, was shall we say, enlightening. The timing chain is a known troublesome feature and is mounted at the rear of the engine and hence the expense to change it. That body work repair was the deal of the century! As a driving car they are very good indeed and do not disappoint. Very chuckable and extremely comfortable.
That engine is a notorious shitter.shame as I love the facelift xf but they banished the tough old 2.2
Hiya Matt l have always been a Jag lover and l am so pleased that you rescued that one. Still loving your work and seeing the transformation of the cars you buy. By far the best car channel l have seen 👍
The Xe was on the wish list for this year but listening to that tractor like engine note I may well change my mind
The petrol engine is much better; and with the cost of diesel these days, probably more economical. I had an XE with a 2 liter petrol; loved it. My current Disco Sport has the same engine, and it moves that 2 ton beast just fine.
Another great video Matt. What a transformation 👏. Keep up the good work 👍
Another great video Matt. Fabulous job on the Jag,the transformation is amazing! Very best wishes. PJ
Thanks Matt for saving a very decent Jaguar as well as (at least some of) the planet in the process! Well done! As you stated, I cannot fathom owners allowing their cars to wallow in such filth and disrepair. Keep up the great work and keep making these amazingly interesting and well-done videos!
A great video. Love to see you bring these cars back to life. How you got those panels fixed for £540 is astonishing. Am looking forward to your next project. 👍🏻
@Bubba Smith Its not you can see the rear bumper is a different colour to the rear quarter panel even from this video.
Mate - old car nut here! I love these videos and the information that comes across. It also breeds trust - you come across as a good’un. Well done and keep them coming.
Glad you rescued it! Amazing transformation!
Its refreshing and satisfying to see car restoration videos that don’t drag you along on a two year journey 👌🏼 Thanks Matt for some great and inspiring content
Was waiting to hear about this, after you mentioned it recently in the Passat video
Hi Matt, another great car rescue video, entertaining and whitty and what a beautiful looking car it ended up being. Hope you get your asking price, looking forward to the next one already. All the very best. Nick.👍
Great video as usual Matt you should have your own motoring show on tv very informative keep up the good work
They chose manual gearbox for the sportiness when combined with the sweeet sounding 2 liter diesel... 😄
😉
Excellent video as usual Matt 👍. Last October when I bought my C class the Jaguar XE was also on my shortlist. But being a newer model than the XF, the only ones within my budget were very high mileage. Given the cost of repair for the timing chain I think I made a good choice with the Merc especially as it had only covered 50k miles. Except for the fact that my W204 I isn't ulez compliant and will be worthless in five years 😢. Oh well 😒
Such a beautiful car! Thank you for fixing it like it deserved!
Really nice looking car and a good video. It's nice to see a behind the scenes of the motor trade. It has such a stigma so its nice to see someone whose actually looking after the cars they sell. Ps your add says Dunlop tyres 😁
Good on you Matt. Thank you for showing the update in the same video. Most KZheadrs would make 2 videos from it and be a week apart. #annoying. Just got myself a XF x260 3L v6. It is sublime, smoothest car I have been in. Effortless power.
Decent profit margin, despite that Ingenium issue 😮 Fortune favours the brave, great trade Matt. 👍👍
I like seeing how it turned out, in the same episode, thanks. Great show
I love the look of these motors, they always pull my eyes when one is coming the other way.
Thoughts and prayers with whoever out of the couple hit the car on the day it went in for a swap. Mr and Mrs Sods-law. RIP
You guys in England 🇬🇧 are blessed with such affordable car prices
I feel the same
but high fuel costs!!
@@stuco81 lol, you have absolutely low fuel cost. in serbia here the fuel is about 1.9e/l. and our salaries are about 600e. do a calculation how much liters you can buy with your salary and how much with mine.

Enjoy the formula of your videos. Keep it up.
Great video Matt! Decent turnaround and XE looks great! Ps hope you are enjoying your trip!
Excellent video as always Matt.. I`ve always liked the Jaguar XE and the manual box would not deter me as there should be less to go wrong, surprised at the need for a timing chain, although its likely lack of servicing could be the cause? as an X car body repairer i was confident it would repair and to be honest a good repair keeps the originality (bargain repair too!).. you deserve to make a good profit..
You would be surprised good sir The ZF automatic that JLR and many other brands use is actually very reliable and I’d say more economical.
Some of the early ingineum cars had timing chain issues its definitely not helped by long service intervals so it's best to look for cars from 2017 when they fixed them
@@Thanos.m TC still was an issue in 2017 MY cars ! 😩
As already mentioned in the Golf MK6 Video, what is wrong with people and their inability to keep cars clean? But as always, a really great video of yours :)
A very good point you made about cars being turned over more frequently. They might then have a better chance of regular maintenance and refurbishment work being carried out. Rather than, as per this example, with one or two less than careful longer term ownerships. We love our XE (180 auto awd). It looks stunning in R-sport trim, and returns 50+mpg without sacrificing driving enjoyment! My partner suffers with MS, and it's one of the very few cars in which she can travel long distances free of vibration induced pain.
What a great video, love this sort of article, well done!
Great video Matt, as always! I was looking forward to a video on the ‘16 XE, I hope you get a great return for your TLC. (P.S. not an idiot, just passionate about what you do.)👏
Not sure how one hits a gate post and keeps going to do that much damage 😂Excellent rescue job, Matt. Another car kept on the road 👍🏻
national trust sticker says all...
I suspect there was a cast iron gate hinge sticking out of a concrete post. Maybe struck it and then pulled forward doing more damage.
The Bluetooth name “Martha” and the National Trust sticker scream spoiled suburban mom with an executive hubby.
Not sure how they hit their gate post, when they’ve probs been in and out a thousand times!
@@johnnunn8688They used body as parking sensor, when the metal screeches you are too close.
Great video Matt and another nice car saved. Might be an idea to pack a set of latex gloves in your pocket when picking up some of these mobile tips.
Looks great! i saw this car on a popular sale site. Good work! Great video!
Great content as usual, Matt! That diesel is probably the worst sounding engine I’ve ever heard 😄
Yes, a remarkable transformation, Matt... 'bit surprised that the timing chain needed doing at 100k miles, especially at £2k, but what do I know... I'm sure you'll get a good return on it, but it's so worthwhile seeing how you confidently set about its recovery and reissue! 👍
I’ve seen them go bad at 40k too
Jaguar recommends timing chain at 100k so why everyone suprised

It’s a Jaguar LandRover, which are junk, with, what was until 2015 almost unheard of, a Jaguar LandRover engine in it! Not really surprising the timing chain failed at 100k miles because the engines are now also junk!
Thanks for keeping it on the road. Hope you get the full price.
I'm curious on your take on Mazda cars. I've never seen one on your channel. Great review video as always.
Brilliant work Matt. The XE looks great now. Shame about it being a manual. I know the demand for C Class Merc's and XE's with a manual gearbox is nowhere near as much as the automatics. Hope you make a nice profit
There are only a few i pull my skills out for ( ie people that pay lol) but i like a challenge and i must say you bring me many 😂😂😂😂
Great video. Really was interesting to see the journey this thing took and frankly miraculous rescue that it earned. Might need to speak to your bodywork chap myself due to an unwanted gift I have been left with but that Jag has scrubbed up nicely. I actually yelled at the screen when you took us round the interior state, that was horrific, and I'm glad I didn't have to smell it for myself! I half wonder if the timing chain issue came about because it was driven as well as it was maintained internally, but I guess we'll never know...
Great job Matt!! SO impressed. The body work for 500 quid is nothing short of a bargain
How is the used car business atm Matt? Just wondering given current and prospective climate.
Aaah... The good ol Timing Chain that you NEVER have to worry about. 🤦🏼♂️ Great episode, Matt. I hadn't seen you do one quite this way before. I enjoyed it. It almost felt like an episode of Restaurant Impossible with chef Robert Irvine, showing how hideous the place is at first and then the big transformation reveal at the end. 👊😂 I agree with you on that engine. Doesn't sound the best.
Haha thank you
Well done Matt. Getting more cars cleaned than the Shake "n" Vac lady! Worth your asking price any day of the week. Timing chain replacement gives the new owner confidence that a major repair bill is overted.
Great video. Nice save. 👏👏
I really enjoyed this video. But I’m interested why you were disappointed that it was a Manual? I thought most people in the UK preferred to drive Manual gearboxes. Thanks 🙏
Because it's a Jag and they are typically Autos.
@@BenB91 thank you Ben. 👍🏻
£4000 isn't cheap. I just enjoy watching you do your thing. There isn't dull moment

Fantastic job, Matt. You deserve to get the asking price, great job. Comes to something when the engine was cleaner than the interior.
You hit the nail on the head, having to sort diesel problems out totally outweighs any economy advantage.
Like the £1300 adblue tank on my 508....
It's not that bad, most of that will 'buff out'' :)
Loved this video, great to see a car turned from a sows‘ ear into a silk purse 👍🏻
I really enjoy these videos, wouldnt say know to a couple a quick clips as the works being done too but I appreciate thats probably a pain to get hold of!
Prefer the old original XJ series.
Excellent turn around there Matt, funny thing is most people put Jaguars in a ‘premium’ category but to be honest they don’t appear to be any better than any other regular car. I’ve just bought a 2021 top of the range Kia Sportage and have been blown away by the quality. Think I’ll stick with Korean stuff now, even if they might be a bit ‘boring’.
Premium is often defined by price and marketing, but despite that Jag interiors are really solid as lomg as you don‘t cheap out on the expensive extras on the configurator
@@supersploon4177 but that’s the point Jag, BMW, Merc etc all build up the price with extra cost ‘packages’ but in my case with the Kia all the ‘extras’ are standard equipment; no-one likes being taken for a ride, especially these days.
Lovely channel and great video. I now realise I would love to see videos from a body shop to see how they perform such magic on damage such as found on this car.
Great video and a good rescued car for someone.
You lost me at "manual" 🤢
I was looking forward to this, when I first saw it in my new videos list! At the end of the much enjoyed video, I had a potential brain wave 😳 on another channel, I sometimes see a breakers yard, with seemingly light damaged, quite young cars. I wonder what this would have been worth in parts. However, it is nice to see that you’ve saved it, and I hope you get full asking price, and/or a decent part exchange you can make money on as well 😀

Great video Matt your bodywork team are so good and very good prices. Timing chains are a problem with some engines. I would suggest it's due to oil change intervals plus the can't be bothered owner.
