Testing out the plow on the ford half track tractor…. And breaking a track

  • Plowed for many years with a Jubilee and a similar Dearborn plow. Ours was a 1947 cable lift. Chains and loaded tires. Pushed like yours. That was in the 60’s and 70’s when Pa. Had real snows. Thanks brought back good memories

  • Had an 8N with the Funk conversion growing up in New York. Hardly ever used the half tracks without canvas engine covers, snow was not conducive to keeping it running. Put a Meyers plow on it, built for the 8N. Modified the frame of the plow where it went to the rear axle. 4 inch heavy angle and 3 in iron pipe welded inside it to get the strength needed to keep it from making rainbows.

  • Back in the 60's, when I was a boy, my father had an old Ferguson with half tracks....I never seen them actually on the tractor. I wonder what a small 4 wheel drive tractor, like a Kubota, would do in the same conditions.

    @outboardfixer@outboardfixer2 ай бұрын
    • I would think so long as it didn’t get hung up in deeper snow the 4x4 would still be better :p. I have a small 4x4 tractor I wanted to do a comparison pulling logs or something but we really didn’t get very much snow this year and anything we got disappeared quickly :p

    • @@4Dan21 I expect you are right. I bet the old ford with tracks would wallow through a lot of mud. Thanks for the interesting videos.

    • @@outboardfixer yes it goes through the mud quite well lol one of my older videos when I first got it shows that :p. Im glad you like the videos 😊

  • You either need new springs or double springs the way that plow lays over.

  • Angle one hole. Two holes is too much angle to track straight. Do you have differential lock on that tractor to use when you are backing up? You can also try steering using individual brakes when you are on slick ground. We used to brake steer all the time when plowing snow with our Massey Ferguson with a fixed angle plow blade. Lugged chains seem to work better than tracks on ice and frozen ground.

    @mtu-engineer3220@mtu-engineer32203 ай бұрын
    • I will try less of an angle! And no there is no diff lock and the breaks done work lol (another thing I will dig into one of these days) and yes i agree lugged chains would get better grip on the ice, I think the tracks are going to be better in deep snow cuz it will give more floatation and more ground contact to grip to (it can’t grip ice but it can grab snow and mud) I’m not sure how it will do with the front digging in. I wanted to get larger tires or make skis for it but I’ll fast it how it is soon anyway 😊

      @4Dan21@4Dan213 ай бұрын
    • @@4Dan21 You will probably not have that much problem with the front tires while plowing since the front end is light. Running in soft ground in the summer is a different story. Wider tires will help with flotation. Even weak brakes are better than none.

  • Need some shoes on that plow so you don’t keep tripping the plow as bad

  • With and open differential you have to brake steer with tracks or even tire chains. You need to fix the brakes before you get yourself into trouble.

  • Never liked Ford tractors for the reason you show in this video . another thing try plowing in a lower gear and get some more weight on the back of the tractor then it might work for you .
