Make it Extreme's plasma cutter notcher

The notchers are very useful as they are used to remove a piece of the tube in order to fit precisely on another tube without leaving any gap between them and so that their welding to be accurate.

  • Very awesome as always! Two suggestions: Use a controller to automatically alternate the rotation direction for each cut to uncoil your plasma cutter lines. Suspend a longer section of the lead leaving the pulley as to allow the torsion to be distributed over a longer straight line.

  • Just watched this for the first time now... very good attention to detail in your builds, and great use of recycled items/parts. Most impressive is your purely mechanical approach to solving the problem. I think many other makers would not have attempted such a solution, or maybe would have "cheated" using CNC motors or purchased parts specific to the purpose. You even make sure the end result looks as nice as possible and number your builds. Very well done!

  • Brilliant! The only way I could imagine improving on it would be to change the cam follower action to stepper motor control (yeah, a whole lot more involved, true.) For the increased complication you'd get a cutter that can give perfect notches based on inputting pipe diameter as well as the ability to make ANY notch profile you want. But yeah, way more involved, but way more versatile too. All that being said, I would not take ANYTHING away from this design. Brilliant and bulletproof.

  • Very well designed machine. A lot of work, but what a time saver for pipe and tube fabrication. I missed how you compensate the oval cutting path when the tube is rotated at an angle. Are you just dragging the tip and allowing the arms to flex?

    @NathanNostaw@NathanNostaw7 жыл бұрын
    • I wondered how they did that too :). Even caught myself imagining some Arduino controlled cutter head with simple ultrasound sensor and some Extreme motorized translation system :D Thinking more simply, leaving the head free with a soft magnet to keep it in contact to the pipe seems sufficient.
