  • I nailed those escalating questions. The 777 doesn't have winglets because it has a longer wing to reduce induced drag and wingtip vortices--much like the U2 which flies in very thin atmosphere at low indicated airspeeds. The 777 did have the problem with having a much larger wingspan than any other airliner at the time--including the 747--which meant there would be potential problems fitting into existing gates. Boeing developed a solution of having folding wing tips which would reduce the span, but no customers specified this option and in service experience deemed it unnecessary.

    • Yes I would. Point is, these people prey on false hopes and deliver a 'results not typical' service to liberate pilots from their money. Know your shit, and you won't need these clowns.

    • Why would gliders have winglets then? High aspect ratio wing, large wingspan. Many design features aren't just based on technological advances, fashion plays a big part in it. There are so many flying machines of all shapes and sizes. Russia has a certain shape, you can tell a Russian aircraft from a US aircraft, but they are both convinced that the shape is correct and does the job. It would have to be if they are going to make money carrying passengers. So there is margin for fashion. If winglets weren't invented and a manufacturer brought out winglets, then customers may think that that aircraft was the best aircraft to operate, a real game changer - totally polarizing the market, which it did. Then the competition to Boeing started putting on winglets, then a new polarization was needed so Boeing changed the standard winglet to the dual-feather winglet...I doubt these were new discoveries of aerodynamics given the volume of research that goes on....and on it goes. If you got no marketing, your product wont standout from he crowd. The B737's competition was the A320, which was selling very well, particularly to Air Asia and other Asian operators, so there needed to be a distinct feature (and possibly other features such as the bigger engine to match the A320).

  • I had a well time at my last employer but moved out of the job because the pay rate wasn't well and I've decided to move onto something I like involving Aviation; such as a pilot! I experienced conflict on a flight deck when I had a engine failure but managed to get the plane down safely. A conflict with an employer was when we had an argue from the weight and balance report. Aircraft have wing lets because it allows sufficient fuel not being burned as much and provides a long endurance flight

  • @spassbanane78 The later models of the 777s have raked wingtips instead, which are more efficient for that particular wing.

  • Hey my name Is Drake. I grew up in Whitby,Ontario and I'm a senior graduate from Seneca Collage with a pilots Aviation degree with Academic subject levels. I wanted to be a pilot because ever since I was a kid I wondered how cool it would be soaring through the clouds, also I like travelling to new places and meeting new employers along the way, it also feels great with the responsibility of passengers on your shoulder. I had a well time at my last employer but moved out of the job because....

  • The 777 doesn't have them because when FAA had old modern rules it was a stander procedure for big planes such as 777 to go into smaller ramps and planes with no wing lets de-expand the wing length.
