It's true, but the scammer was allegedly making dea'dly threats to him and his family. So someone is calling him on the phone, saying they're coming to k"ll him. The scammer arranged the Uber trip, and the homeowner thought the person who showed up was the person threatening his life.

Killing people that you THINK scammed you. Uber driver was sent on a random pickup and knew nothing of the scam.

Poor old man, he probably has early onset dementia and these evil ppl set him up because they know that he is vulnerable and can be easily manipulated. There's definitely two victims here.

It's sad yes but that's an 80+ year old man getting calls from people about his family being kidnapped. Well half of the scammers are dead. This is a common scam and she was in on it. She is a "mule" for the scam, and she knew exactly what was going on. The mules get a cut, and that is why they do what they do. The scammer is a foreigner from Somalia or India and the mules will transfer the money to them for a cut.

Uber does offer a package pickup / delivery service called "Uber Connect" in some cities. I myself have used it. That poor woman was simply doing a job running errands on Uber to support herself.

I always tell my parents to never answer calls from numbers they don’t know. It’s always scammers sometimes they listen sometimes they don’t. Older people get angry easily and no amount of talking will calm them down. No excuses, it just how it is, scammers are a huge problem. The government needs to step up and do more about this.

So no doubt someone hacked into their account to order the ride. Uber also said they remain committed to working with law enforcement to find the scammers. They better, no doubt the driver's family have a cause of action here. And not just against the shooter. Whole thing is sad.

That doesn’t mean the driver is involved as it’s a random Uber driver who gets assigned and can either choose to accept the package pickup or decline it. He deserves prison. It doesn’t matter if the old guy is 81. That’s no excuse. She’s simply an unknowing delivery driver. She was afraid for her life and was backing away. He killed her regardless of her trying to leave.
