Bfg fkn suck lol. When I worked at a tire shop most tires past a yr of production date started to crack bad between the treads
@@carlossalazar2164 not sure when you worked there? Time will tell how the tires do after a year? All the manufacturers are using the basic same rubber compound. I purchased these tires at Costco so they have a 60k mile tread warranty. The BFG trail terrains are very similar to the BFG KO2, but street oriented bias. Pirelli owns BFGoodrich so they stand behind the product. BTW - I do like my Trail Terrains, I’ve put on about 5,000 miles.
@Mitchell Kasdin just my experience when I worked at a tire shop, you're going back 11yrs. Maybe they did improve already, but personally, I would never run them
@@carlossalazar2164 With the advent of computers, cad-cam and material science, what was status quo is no longer the case. Michelin the parent company would not warranty the tires for 60k miles if that was the case? Also, not sure where you worked, but the BF Goodrich Trail Terrains are new tires, first labeled and manufactured in 2019. So when you say the tires are no good it’s conjecture not real world experience. I own the Trail Terrains tires and overall they are far better then the OEM Pirelli Scorpions 🦂. Are the trail terrains the best tires? Probably not, but there is no best tires in all categories.
Do this video with each brand! Thier all terrains and up. It would help log everything each company is offering at that time. Idk might be cool. It was nice to see all these bad boys next to each other.

the salesman asked me if I wanted the 20" rim and wider tires... I said no.... I want the 19" skinny tire... he asked why... I said it handles these eastcoast potholes better due to bigger sidewall and bites thru the snow better... not to mention protects against the curbs also...I buy for practicality... :)
look at the tire size of those old model fords going through cow paths; when there were practically no roads or infrastructure. some learning from those old film reels

Sipes are for gaining more straight line traction in slippery conditions. The reason the sipes don’t go all the way to the edge of the tire is to prevent chunking of the edges of the tire if you are to drive off-road.

Wow, this video summed up a massive amount of highly technical tire technology in a concise video! I've been in the tire industry for over 10 years, specifically in LT/Off Road tire evaluation/performance and the amount of condensed information here is phenomenal. Wet compound traction(not hydroplane) are some major differences you'll find overall, with winter performance(tread compound and design) a close second outside of major design differences in mud/sand traction already discussed in this video. Excellent video!

Hey we live up above the snow line and don't drive paved roads. Just gravle dirt mud n snow. I have Swampers and BFG Baja's Mt and my Maxxis Mt. Wife has Hankook I Pike. Great snow tire!!!

Awesome video! Any plans to test the Toyo Open Country CT? I’ve had them on my Power Wagon for 15k miles and I really like them. Drove coast to coast twice with them, snow/ice, rain, mud, rocks…they can truly do it all.
I have the same tire and mostly use them for hotshot in the north but occasionally head south so they've seen it all. From hauling pipe into AZ mines up steep grades on loose gravel to hauling conex in ID out of massive cobalt mines on tight single lane snowpacked mountain passes and all the HW in between. They are fantastic tires that deserve more attention.
I break through brush, honey locusts, sharp rocks, occasional lost fence post, etc. I just gashed the sidewall on my Trxus M/T so bad I won’t keep driving it. I take my air down to 8psi on sand, 18 on rocks and whatnot, 25 on the road, 35 long trips. I need tough sidewalls. Oh, I also have a thing for ignoring curbs so yeah I need tougher tires.

3 peak mountain snowflake is a spin up traction test only. No braking. No handling. It is acceleration only and done in a lab. It's an indicator of possible winter performance, but so much more goes into a tire actually being good in the snow.
What wheels are shown on your highlander? I would like a set.
ATs don't cut it in mud. Siped mild mudders with a compound that doesn't freeze will work OK almost anywhere. Check out the Trxus MT and the discontinued Parnelli Jones Dirt Grip.
We've had great luck with the Yokohama MT, they've done well in rain and snow, better than my old Mickey ATZP3. A lot noisier though and they flat spot pretty bad. The mickeys are better in most conditions except crazy mud and snow, and they fixed the snow with the new version. You are right. There's nothing more slippery in the universe than a Falken or BFG in the dirt after the rain.

What tires would you recommend for casual offroading. I drive a chevy trailblazer with 5" worth of lift(3" suspension 2"body) and mostly encounter sand(sugar sand) with the occasional mud(clay) but also use the truck to daily around.
Best Hybrid tires. Nitto Ridge Grapplers. I daily them (about 40 mins each way to work). Not loud and it handles the curvy roads Just make sure your under 33 PSI any higher and your spine will shatter. lol I also went on many trails in Southern California. It was able to tackle most trails. (some just came down to articulation and clearance) Haven't tested on John Bull yet. Hope to tackle that beast this summer. Remember with sand will any off-roading (I.E Sand Hallow) its always about tire pressure. 20 PSI or less of if you're bead locked 10-15. SET-UP 3rd Gen 4Runner. 4WD 2.5 inch lift. Nitto Ridge Grapplers 285/75/R16. 2nd rec would be Toyo Open Country and Milestar Patagonia A/Ts
I love the price of the milestar Patagonias but damn in all my research everyone says you’ll be lucky to see 30,000 usable miles
I recently installed Kenda Klever 35x10.5T17LT R/T and I instantly regretted it. I love the tires. They’re quiet and grippy but they look like 33s compared to my buddy’s 35x12.5R17 BFG KO2.

@@TrailBuilt they are awesome. I decided to get the 10.5” wide instead of 12.5”. Being 2.5” wider sure makes big difference visually. Wished I knew how different it would look before I bought them.
@@TrailBuilt I run Kenda Klever R/T KR601s on my Jeep XJ. I've always liked the performance of tall/skinny tires. I've used wider tires for sand but I prefer tall/skinny for mud/snow.
So you are basing your regret solely on looks? I love my 35x10.5r17 on, and off-road.

To put into perspective how much money is put into tire development, Goodyear has been testing on the ISS to see if there are any benefits of fabrication, specifically the formation of silica partials, in zero gravity.
Super swamper tires all the WAY
I have old style kms that were jk rubicon take offs on my Gladiator. Great off road. But man are they noisy. They have a pretty symmetrical tread pattern. Smart of them to change that for the km3
Km3 are amazing. I've had mine for about a year now and the are amazing in snow,mud,ice,rocks. Plus ride smooth and pretty dam close to silent for a Mt tire
Seem to value the 3pmsf and m+s rating or at least mention it quite a bit. It might be worth mentioning, that not all tires that have it, are good. I have hankook dynapros on my new truck and they're trash compared to the wranglers my other truck had. Both at tires, the hankook wet traction is ass, break loose with much less throttle on snow/rain.
You should put on your website top categories people value in choosing tires. Based on their input, recommmend tires they should buy. For example, ask how much dry, wet, snow handling, offroading vs driving in asphalt matters to them and recommend a product.

I have a question. First time this has been an issue. Everyday I have to drop my tire pressure to 33lbs from 37 lbs sometimes 39lbs why do they keep getting so high in pressure? Should I just leave it alone I have a jk so it’s not heavy. 315/70/17 size Goodyear territory mt tire
When they warm up from diving the pressure goes up. Only check tires when they're cold.

Something that is not talked about much is Tire weight … does a light weight tire help performance(less energy needed to turn tire) and Fuel economy?

I’m trying to find legit advice on whether the trail terrains would be sufficient for a half ton truck that occasionally tows given the limited weight ratings offered. I don’t need the KO2 for how much I’m on road but I also don’t want a CUV tire
I would try something like the Yokohama GO15. Nice rugged tire with good all weather traction and better off road than you'd expect, plus some nice reasonably still walls for hauling and towing. Puncture resistant and great tread life. They had a little whine on concrete on my truck, but only at like 68 mph, quiet at all other speeds. I know your post is old but I hope this helps.
So what better for pure offroad ? A Mickey Thompson MTZ or the BAJA BOSS M/T. ? Woupd one be louder than the other ?
We find that the Baja Boss seems to be the more popular choice. The Baja Boss is great in lose surfaces and the Legend is good for larger rocks. Both can provide a great off-road experience!
When it comes to loudness on the road, because both are beefy tires, they will both produce noise. However, most people find it not to be that bad.

Trail terrain tire is going to be useless off-road,it is probably a good rain and ligth snow tire.The KM3 tire is a very good off-road tire.

You guys push your website all the time and I’m starting to think you don’t know how broken your site is. Has been for months. A stock Chrome browser renders a horrible UI. Looks like lots of CSS and JavaScript issues. It’s completely unusable.
You guys are charging more for tyres over there than we pay for them in Australia 🤔 strange. Eg 285/65r18 wildpeaks - $414 each on your website $350 each here in Oz 🇦🇺🇦🇺
