There's a nice spot of treasure, right at the end of this video..it'll change your life.
The end of this video was inspired by UndeadChestnut, who made this awesome comic: bit.ly/2vlnTXc
Some of you may also find this reminiscent of the Prepare to Cry Trailer we made 4 years ago :)
The next Prepare to Cry is already available for Patrons, but was delayed because the art wasn't ready...

  • If you think about it, Patches is a genius. He found the one way to never truly hollow. Every undead has a purpose, a fate, a duty. Once that task is complete, they have nothing. So instead, Patches decides that he can't lose what he doesn't have. He decides not to have a fate. He is humble, he doesn't care about the Flame, the Lords, or souls. Devoid of all earthly wants, he persists. He survives. Until the end of all things.

  • Interesting theory, but he kicks you down to a Skull Lantern in the first Dark Souls. If you don't have the Sunlight Maggot, the Skull Lantern is very important to seeing through the darkness of the Tomb of Giants. In Dark Souls 3, when he locks you in the tower, you can find a new way out of the tower where Irina will be if you make her a Firekeeper (and you can find the Firekeeper set in there). Or he's there to help you backstab the Swordmaster if you haven't killed him yet (and I forgot if there's an item at the bottom aside from the Firekeeper Set). The Lapp questline basically shows Patches in his purest form. A man of selflessness, wanting to help you while on his own journey to find himself, only now he isn't masking his intent behind greedy and traitorous deeds. We even see Lapp doubt your information for a split second before saying that you are a true friend of his. Maybe Patches puts on a front simply because he has been betrayed in the past, and he would rather make it very difficult for someone to grow close to him-someone that's not a thief stealing for those in need like Greirat-and make their attempts to try and kill him make it sting less for him? Perhaps he's been helping you in his own special way from the start? Food for thought. He's still an asshole though.

    @Arcangel23XX@Arcangel23XX5 жыл бұрын
    • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Perfect delivery on that last line. 👌 Also, wow! That theory is also very interesting. Food for thought indeed. *Except if you end up presenting yourself as a Cleric.* Then Patches goes out of his way to MURDER you. _(jeez! what happened in that guy's life?)_ But the idea of Patched being an asshole, but an unwilling helper who doesn't want to admit it also sounds very interesting. Because he never really gets rich from all the looting he's doing. And he never really earns that much by tricking all these people. HELL, he even went out of his way to try and help Grairat! I think that is when you can see his mask first fall off effectively. Patches clearly shows a tone of concern for Grairat, but immediately after tries to cover himself with a snarky comment, _seemingly_ mocking the great thief. Guess he's grown fond of Grairat more then he has anyone else. I for one still think he's hoping to get us killed to punish us for our "greed", but if he's secretly testing us and seeing if we can find the clues he's left behind, well that would add yet another layer of complexity to this beautiful bastard. 😆

      @patricklorran1960@patricklorran19604 жыл бұрын
    • Not really, sure art allows freedom of interpretation , to say that an artist's own interpretation or intention means nothing is just wrong. An artist expresses himself through his work and wishes for his vision or feelings to reach as many people. How then his feelings are interpreted by those who view his work is largely upon them but still to say just coz he offered his work to others devoid him of his own is absolutely sad.

    • @Danny BRITZMAN If you ignore the author's wishes and perspective you are a worse dickhead than Patches. Seriously, art is subjective but to ignore the original intent when it's given to you is to play pretend and turns it all into pointless drivel, since nothing has value and every perspective is pointless as a form of interpretation.

  • I also want to point out that greirat also gave you a ring (specifically the blue tearstone ring more on that in a bit) to give to a woman named Loretta, when he is given her bone he mourns her and says "she was already dead" he knew she was dying the blue tearstone ring states that it improves damage absorption when health is low, or to put it another way the ring makes you more resilient the closer to dead you are and this makes me think Loretta was sick or injured and so greirat climbs the wall to retrieve the ring as the red tearstone ring is also found within the castle, he wanted to get this ring to prolong the life of a seemingly unimportant woman in the undead settlement. This truly embodies his "martyr for the poor" title, he risked imprisonment, even saves patches in the process all to save one woman. I know this video is old and about patches but greirat of everyone is the best person who can show us patches does hate greed, he is friendly towards greirat because he steals to help others the absolute opposite of greed.

    • @Michael Henry I agree with this however I don’t agree that Greirat was suicidal. I think he believed he was had little purpose other than thievery, and aiding his liberator, and so he takes his loyalty to the Ashen One very seriously. I mainly believe this because upon speaking to him after “Siegward” saves him, he doesn’t seem that disappointed or ashamed he was saved, he sounded shocked but grateful. In summary, I don’t think Greirat actively wanted to die, he was just very enthusiastic to help you, and really enjoys what he does.

  • I always liked the idea of patches being the furtive pygmy. Lapp made me like it even more. So patches found the dark soul, and with his kind personality he didnt want fame, he didnt want power. He was kind. So that made him furtive. He didnt stand out. He helped the gods win the war but they betrayed him. They betrayed his people. Then. His people betrayed him. He was alone. His selflessness got him naught but heartbreak. This is why he hates clerics. The spout the lies of the gods. They seek more power for the gods, themselves. Tell the tales of miracles filled with falsehoods. Charlatans. Then there are the humans. His descendants. Filled with greed. They fight and kill one another, all for the sake of power. It is better they be dead when they fail his test than live as fools who cant appreciate his brothers. Death to the lot of em. Then as the world ends, there is no one left to test, to punish. He then falls to the wretched curse beset upon him. The only way he could be the man he once was, is to forget. He is kind, caring. Only see the best in people. He meets you. And you help him. You are kind, and supportive. Then. He remembers. At the very end of the world, the first human and his last descendant. He states have a fine dark soul to you. The first holder of the dark soul gives his blessing to his last descendant. It just took the end of the world.

So it really does make sense that he follows Velka or the world I also strongly believe Velka had a Dark Soul. She valued truth more than her own will. And those who follow the dark in the serious always speak of truth and peace. The description of the Mimic head tells us that mimics are people from a far away, forgotten land, where the crime of greed is punished by the convicted being cursed and transformed into a mimic. So that they may seek repentance by punishing others for their greed. What if Patches, comes from this forgotten land and embraces it culture and standards against greed. It would explain his obvious distaste towards greed.

Sure, his life was hard, but it was a life worth living and he lived it the best he could - that is why he never went hollow, because, ironically enough, Patches might've been the most "human" character in the entire series.

Patches, who was always with us, making us angry at times, but also helping us. Just like miyazaki of course, you might curse his name at times for the difficulty of the game. But in the end, it wouldn't be the same without the difficulty. Patches from demon souls, to the very end of the world of dark souls he was with us. Even in dark souls 2, the most different of the souls games, where miyazaki was not very prevalent in the making of the game, he was still in the game, as pate. As patches kicks us one (possibly) last time into the fray in the last dlc, so has miyazaki. I really hope any one stumbles upon this, to think maybe I'm on to something.

Meanwhile, Patches does drop hints here and there of there being more then he lets on besides his "evil trickery". I like to consider Pate a seperate character, and one I wouldn't hesitate to get killed. _(same with Creighton)_

Every single thing from common fruit to Gael, from dark souls 1 characters and interactions to the existence off the first flame after the new dlc takes you to the new world. All of it as a final dedication to the souls series. From each bonfire names to the rivalries between different now in the series. That's and goodbye.
