      @notyesbetothefallssorcerer3272@notyesbetothefallssorcerer3272 Жыл бұрын
    • @@notyesbetothefallssorcerer3272 It can happen to anyone. My ex assaulted me and resulted in prolapse. Ended up in the ER a few months later when it got worse and had corrective surgery. Surgery doesn't prevent it from happening again, though, so now it happens when I don't eat enough fiber or drink enough water. I also can't have children vaginally or else I risk it BIG TIME. If anyone puts anything up their butt without proper lubrication and relaxation then it can result in prolapse. If you spend more than 5 minutes trying to strain going to the bathroom, it'll happen to you, too. Just treat your butt with kindness folks... it's not fun at all.

But as someone who has had the disorder her whole life, growing up in the 90s there weren't many people (real or fiction) publicly living with OCD. Just Howie and Monk. I am so thankful to Howie for sharing his experiences.

    • @@zenmasterorwhatever Yes, please seek a professional opinion. The most dangerous thing about OCD stereotypes is people going _"ohmygosh, I'm so ocd hahaha"_ when all they mean is _"orderly"_ . Many people fail to recognise the actual (and dangerous) illness, because in the mainstream, it's just the _"quirky orderly and germaphobe"_ thing.

    • @@jameseiner I always thought that all my life. But recently I learned that I’m not the only one who has intrusive thoughts and I shouldn’t feel ashamed and that the stupid routines I can’t stop myself from are probably OCD. Maybe I should try to get a diagnosis.

      @Cashcorn@Cashcorn Жыл бұрын
    • @@jameseiner Yup yup, I have OCD tendencies - as my psychologist puts it - and those alone make my depression and anxiety spirals exponentially worse. It has taken years of cognitive behavioral therapy to train myself to find the exit before the spirals get out of hand. I don't really attribute the intrusive thoughts to any one thing when my brain is basically a bullshit cocktail. Compulsive habits from things like dermatilomania and my obsessive anxiety with misophonia are still major issues and are probably the only points of embarrassment I feel about my mental health struggles. It's a point of sensitivity when I'm out trying to experience life because the stigma around people who get triggered by "minor" things are at best brushed off and at worst bullied for it. Depression is far more.... acceptable to talk about nowadays but OCD and related disorders are still pushed aside by public perception. It has a lot to due with ignorance and those stereotypes you mentioned. A lot of people who have them end up tucking themselves into a corner and I have no idea how many people go undiagnosed, let alone receive therapy, because of it.

  • Just wanna point out something here. OCD is NOT fun! It's far more than the need to have the glasses in your cabinet arranged "just so". OCD means laying in bed at night for hours being unable to think of anything other than "did I set the screen saver". It's really that ridiculous! Being unable to convince yourself that your closet doesn't HAVE to be organized by body part (top or pants), then shirt type (t-shirt, collared shirt, or button-down), then color, plus all the hangars have to be the same type and must be the same distance from each other is frustrating, to say the least. OCD also means getting thoughts in your head that just won't leave. It's going down the darkest road possible on the most mundane things. It's being convinced that, since you accidentally ate that apple seed, you're going to die from cyanide poisoning. OCD is knowing, without a doubt, that you're safe and nothing bad will happen to you but, at the same time, someone's screaming in both ears, "WHAT IF YOU'RE THAT ONE IN A MILLION PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY DIE FROM SMOKING MARIJUANA? It's simple, dumb stuff that gets stuck in your head and just refuses to die a dignified death. It's that song you've had stuck in your head for the past 3 days, but played through concert speakers SET TO THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE SETTING WHILE STRAPPED TO YOUR HEAD. OCD is also being convinced something horrible will happen if you don't finish that puzzle or skip that step while doing laundry or touch that dirty door handle. There's no way you can articulate what the hell is gonna happen, but you're positive something bad WILL happen.

I have severe intrusive thoughts and when I get too nervous or overwhelmed I feel like I am going to black out and I have blacked out in the past.. which is why I fear it happening again more. Looking back, my parents didn’t necessarily “make fun” of him for it but they weren’t understanding that it could be OCD. So maybe he just stopped doing it because of the comments? He also washes his hands a lot/vigorously which isn’t as serve now, but his hands would be raw in the winter time. • @Emily Ann you can grow out of OCD to a degree. I think because the world forces you to sort of exposure therapy yourself. For some people the fact that you'll get these triggers over and over but don't end up having the bad things happen can mean, that just like in exposure therapy, you realize the likelihood of something bad happening isn't very high and stop being so bothered. This is more common in young people as they grow up. I used to have very weird OCD as a child, age 12 was the worst age, but at 28 I have completely grown out of it.

  • I’m 22 and I was diagnosed with OCD, depression, and PTSD at the end of last year. I hope Howie knows hearing him talk about his experience with it, the struggles and panic attacks because of it, really makes me feel less alone. I know how alienating it makes you feel, and I’m so happy he’s still around even if it’s hard existing. His story just really touched me as I’m still learning how to navigate life, as hard as it is already, with all this other shit like OCD making it worse. I hope things only get better for him, and that we all find peace in life.

  • You have no idea how much I can relate to the "not being able to open a door." I've had ocd since I was 13. I'm over 20 now. I've had so many panic attacks over the years and have had to deal with family and friends calling me crazy... The anxiety gets so bad sometimes it feels like it'll kill me. I have more support now than I used to, but still there's only a few people who take me seriously. I don't know anyone else who has ocd, but this video really helped me feel less alone/crazy. So thank you

  • The storie about Howie coming out from Stern's and talking to the guy made me quite emotional. That's the reason why i'm way more comfortable talking about mental health and issues nowadays. I am no longer embarassed by it AND it helps so many more people. It's especially awesome if you start talking to someone and you see them being nervous or uncomfortable and when you touch the subject and talk about your issues that they sudddenly relax more. Priceless.

  • This has honestly changed my perspective of Howie. To be fair, I didn’t know much about the guy but I thought he always seemed standoffish and perhaps conceited, but that’s just how he talks and his sense of humour. Made me come to appreciate him a lot more and the shit he’s been through. Growing up ND in the 70’s must have been tough. It’s tough in any decade but so little was known about anything back then, I can only imagine. Glad he’s found his own and can embrace this stuff.

  • get ready cause this is gonna be a tangent: When I was 13, I was first diagnosed with severe OCD. It took over my life and I legitimately believed that I would continue to suffer this way for the rest of my life. One day my dad sent me a video about Howie and his OCD that truly changed my life. I felt so alone and helpless, and seeing this successful comedian who found ways to make himself comfortable in the world and who is able to live a full and successful life brought me so much peace. OCD is terrifying and exhausting, but Howie sharing his experience made sure that I didn't feel so alone and I will always be thankful for that.

  • I never knew that Howie had OCD. I also have it and was diagnosed with it relatively young. To me, it’s always very discouraging that people usually don’t understand this disorder and even label themselves as such as a joke or for quirkiness. I’m really glad that someone that actually has this disorder is able to talk about it in the limelight. It causes such a tremendous amount of daily stress and it can make you feel so alone as some of the intrusive thoughts you get fixated on can’t be shared without people thinking your crazy or even dangerous with how misunderstood the disorder is.

  • It's really refreshing to hear Howie speak about his experiences so openly. I'm diagnosed Autistic with potentially undiagnosed OCD--OCD has been suggested by medical professionals, but I haven't pursued it further. I can relate to his contamination issues especially and how ignorant people can be, even cruel. Hearing him helps me feel a little less alone. I grew up listening to him in Gremlins and Muppet Babies, had no idea it was him!

    • it's pretty easy for the need for some sort of routine, repeative behaviours & need for sameness for stability in autism to delve into the realm of ocd if the environment feels unstable to be honest. it's also can be quite deep rooted into it so there's really a lot of overlap. i personally am no where near ready to treat my ocd but i'm glad i was also given that diagnosis because it just helps me understand my brain a lot more

  • Hey Anthony, I’m hoping you’ll see this. One of the people you interviewed with DID, DissociaDID, is currently getting sued for all they are worth. The person suing them is harassing them, and filing false copyrights against them. I’m hoping you can have them on the show again or at least highlight their legal fundraiser, because they’ve exhausted all their personal funds.
