Everyone wants to be famous, right? Well, maybe not, and most people would definitely not bury themselves alive for over two months to achieve stardom... but not everyone is Mike Meaney.
In 1968, Irishman Mike Meaney decided he would make his dreams of fame come true by breaking the world record for the longest someone has remained buried alive. The Tipperary, Ireland, native based in London was able to stay in his oversized coffin for 61 days - beating the past world record by over two weeks. The kicker? No representative from the Guinness Book of World Records was on-site to see Meaney complete the feat.

When I was in Elementary School, every year, I'd buy The Guiness Book of World Records during the book fair and read it over and over again. I was amazed by the stunts and physical records.
My sister did the same.
When I was a kid I spent a significant amount of time pouring over the Guiness Book.
It's cool you actually read it! Back in the day, most kids (me included) just looked for the photos like "Longest Fingernails" and the two obese twins with the matching outfits and motorscooters. Much respect!
Okay I really want to hear more about the woman that stayed on a flagpole for OVER 200 DAYS??!! How??
I don’t understand the bathroom situation 🫣
@@ThatsShowbizBabyy Yeah, me either, unless she had a bucket up there with her. Maybe 2 buckets. One for food and one for waste.
Everythings better with Weird History.❤
Moral of the story: there's a niche for everything. Find yours.
"That song about not being sick but not being well..." That got me good 😂 . As soon as you said that, I immediately heard it in my head! Good video!
Yep, because at no point in that song does anyone ever sing about flagpoles or sitting.
1:21 We had some Guinness Book of World Records books when I was younger, they were an intriguing and inspiring read!
Well, this is something. First time hearing about this. Impressive.
0:50 I bought the World's Largest Jigsaw Puzzle, it has Keith Haring designs on it (he is a famous street artist). The artwork is a lot more influential than I previously thought, there is a lot of awesome clothes and a shoeline with it on it! It all reminds me of the music video "Sky High" by Jigsaw.
I remember meeting Ross McWhirter many years back he was a lovely guy, very knowledgeable and very modest.
I think back to that one guy who pre-recorded an audio recording of himself trying to get out of his coffin.
That was the funniest funeral ever
Woah what? This sounds hilarious is there video or anything? rip to one legendary comedian, by the sounds of it
@@The.One.True.B yea bro type in, Irish man funny funeral” in the search bar you should find it, it’s really funny

A+ video! LOVE IT! What a unique and fascinating history!
8:59 That is an eye-opening history!
I LOVE YOU NARRATOR
0:45 I used to have a Notre Dame pennant on my bedroom wall when I was in junior high and high school. They are one of my favorite teams, I hope they join the B1G Ten soon!
I'm so glad you are covering this! Thank you
0:22 Wim Hof AKA The Iceman sits in boxes of ice and breaks Guiness World Records! His book Becoming The Iceman (2011) is revolutionary!
Thank you for this! ⚰
I celebrate Harvey Danger's entire catalog.
I'll be claustrophobic
Ya there's so many psychological horrors associated with this one. I'll pass
0:01 Reminds me of the Cat Mayo commercial with Kate McKinnon, very funny!
0:16 One of my friends picked up a hula hoop for the fight time and was able to do it a long time! It was surprising because it is unusual that anyone can be so great at something the first try!
Yes! He's back! I can listen again
Ahhhhh the original narrator. Thank the gods.
Very Impressive
Guinness Book of World Records was always a favorite read as a child!
They must have sent back up the bodily fluids, right?
I know right, plenty of questions here...
For American narrators (because I hear this so often), if you're naming someone by their title, except in very specific circumstances, _don't_ use their surname. A full introduction would be Sir Hugh Beaver (or Lord Beaver _if_ he was a lord and not "just" a knight - one of the specific circumstances), but when using the "Sir" title, he would be "Sir Hugh", _never_ Sir Beaver! Just think of the royals: "Prince William", not "Prince Wales". And his wife is "Princess Katherine", not "Kate Middleton" - she changed her name on marriage like most women do. I'm sure there's a web page explaining it all somewhere!
That's good to know actually! I was under the misconception that the whole title/first name thing was the UK tabloid news' shorthand way of covering the royal family! Hey, don't judge too harshly on my ignorance. I'm American. We won a war a long time ago partly in order to not have to recoginze such things! 😂
It’s likely laziness and apathy. Honestly, most Americans couldn’t care less about titles, royalty, bleh. I mean, 1776 wasn’t too long ago… 😂
When i saw the title and subject, I thought this was a qxir video
Sir Hugh Beaver is my new gamertag
Because you also find the humor in these kind of names, I feel an obligation to share that I have a regular customer at my job named Sharon Dix. Actual name. 😂
FYI, the MC Worters were twin brothers who apparently had photographic memories & they regularly appeared on a kids TV show in the late 70's/early 80's called "The Record Breakers".
That’s quite the intro
6:41 It would have been funny if a bunch of unusual reading was sent down to him, like strange dime novels or housekeeping magazines.
I've never gotten here this early, nice...
Irish Mr. Beast:
I loved reading the world record books in school, I'd buy a new one every year during my schools book fair, good times.
Was this narrator a VA in the horizon game? :o
How did the people on flagpoles go to the bathroom? Talk about lack of privacy!
Much like trump, they just shit themselves.
I should have Guiness count up my comments.
0:58 There is a harp emblem on the Guinness can, reminds me of the Harp Twins!
Wait so this is abnormal behaviour...I had no idea I needed help I’ve been doing this for decades.
Nah, it's not any more abnormal than being in a fur suit in public. 😅
2:24 this is a pretty misleading image, and I immediately had to question how anyone could spend over 7 months standing on a flagpole.
Tell Mr. Blank I love him!
Best narrator!!
3:10 A Periscope! Hahaha!
Eating ANOTHER Weird History meal! Eating LUCKY CHARMS* (Hidden Dragon Reveals in Milk)...while watching this Weird History video! *From the Weird History video "Why Was the 80s the Golden Age for Sugary Cereals?"
That's nothing. Try taking his whiskey away for that time period 😂
Omg I thought you died! ❤
1:16 Hahaha! That reminds me of the music video "Bad Guy" by Billie Eilish.
I’m getting claustrophobic watching this video 😂
How did he... _use_ the bathroom? err.. never mind.
You'll be underground soon enough, so I don't see the point of doing it just because. That's just me! 🤔😒🙄
Yay .. the best narrator! ☮
I didn’t want to, but I’m starting to like the other one too😁 this guy is just so damn good his shoes are hard to fill
All three are good.
That Irishman is determined to be famous. 😀👍
Om nom nom
I am going to watch the video: ---TIMELINE 1986---
217 days?? How did she go to the bathroom? What did she do for fun? Didn't her legs cramp??
sitting on a pole is a common coming of age test for some tribal communities.
Savage gobbledegook stone age people
Ross McWhirter was assassinated by the IRA in 1975😢
So that's where "The Life Of Riley" got the character name.
When is a new Timeline coming out
In that intro, you said a lot of mean things about Mr. Beast
Que commenters commenting on how much they love "this" narrator
Because we DO
Out of love and respect for the OG narrator, how could we possibly be upset with him taking a little break sometimes? Sure the new guy is a lot different, but in my experience, he isn't that bad if you give him a chance! It's obvious the same person/people? are writing them all, so..... why not let the OG share the reigns?@@thishappycrafter272
Just think of the bodily waste that would down there with these people!🤢
No worse than trump in a long meeting.
@@misterhat5823 are you ok? You seem to be caught in some weird internet bubble that has you seeing the world through the lens of hating an ego centric politician who hasn't been in office in over three years.
