(Lyrics):
[Verse 1: David Paich]
I hear the drums echoing tonight
But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation
She's coming in, 12:30 flight
Her moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation
I stopped an old man along the way
Hoping to find some old forgotten words or ancient melodies
He turned to me as if to say
"Hurry, boy, it's waiting there for you"
[Chorus: Bobby Kimball]
It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had (Ooh)
[Verse 2: David Paich]
The wild dogs cry out in the night
As they grow restless longing for some solitary company
I know that I must do what's right
As sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti
I seek to cure what's deep inside
Frightened of this thing that I've become
[Chorus: Bobby Kimball]
It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had
[Bridge: Both]
Hurry, boy, she's waiting there for you
[Chorus: Bobby Kimball]
It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
I bless the rains down in Africa (I bless the rains)
I bless the rains down in Africa (I bless the rains)
I bless the rains down in Africa
I bless the rains down in Africa (Gonna take the time)
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

Crazy how this song almost didn't come to light because the producer thought the meaning of the song was odd. Then bam. One of the most iconic songs of all time.
What is the meaning of the song, anyway?
I know its crazy

Here here! My 6 year old has fallen in love with it.
Here
Legends!! One of my fave tracks for half a century. Past 48 years of my whole existence, it still sounds absolutely amazing, and always will, to my very last moment on earth.
It’s something about the sound 80’s music produces that make it sound uniquely identifiable to the decade and this song is the masterpiece that ties it all together
I live in England. North Hertfordshire. This song was written by God.
It's Heavenly❣
Why you yappin about it where you’re from how is that relevant to this song 😭
I love listening to this masterpiece on a rainy summer evening as the sun is going down
Sounds like a vibe
me, contrary. I love listening this to the sunset hahahah
I BLESS THE RAINS DOWN IN AFRICA
I'm South African. This song screams to me.
Nostalgia always hit rly hard with this song for some reason, one of the best songs ever
No matter how many years pass, this song will stay in our hearts FOREVER!! Classic never die...
David Piache is one of the best musician/ songwriters of the 70s and 80s , the whole toto group is without question one of the most important groups in history
To think that this was at first considered "B side" music material by Toto.. unbelievable.
It’s worse than that. The rest of the band didn’t like the song, they didn’t understand the lyrics. Paich considered dropping the song from the album and save it for a solo project that would come some time later. But perhaps an angel suddenly passed through the studio and had the band eventually cut the song. The rest is history as they say 😊
This is absolutely the best song to listen to when being relaxed in mountains and landscapes that are so calming.
The song itself is so calming.
No matter where you live, it’s more of the journey in living and passion what we enjoy 😊 doing
The production, instrumentation, and writing is phenomenal. Timeless music
My wife is from Africa. She has told me so many memories of this song when she was young.
Used to listen to this song when i was 4yrs old...... I am 34yrs old now. 😢🥺 (Nostalgic) Africa will forever be imprinted in my veins ❤
This is one of the greatest songs of all time ❤
Now I do agree however I think it stinks a little. Haha only kidding 😂 Thank you for the comment though ❤
It’s like just close your eyes and let the 80’s wash over you… Damn
For my good friends all over Africa hope to go back one day beautiful country beautiful people god bless x❤
Africa is a continent ....

Welcome back 🎉
La mia Africa. Grandi Toto per sempre nel mio ❤️ anche se passano gli anni e le generazioni cambiano. Un abbraccio a chi ascolta ancora questa musica `Grandi' e sempre noi giovani e forti . Billy68.
My ex boyfriend used to work in a big department store in the electrical department selling stereos etc. When demonstrating them he used to play this song really loudly and people would always buy one because everyone loves this song.
Ew
I lived in Africa for two years. Toto nailed it in every way!!
Welcome back 🙏
Heading back to the year 1983 for this one
Few songs are as soothingly healing & relaxing in all that they evoke, for such peacefully contemplative reflection overtakes me every time I hear it, it lifts me up & beyond all while taking me to places & realms that my eyes have never seen, making me feel far more alive & vibrant & spiritual. More human. This masterpiece, in all its glorious timelessness, has that beautifully transcendent effect upon me, helping to purify my soul as most of my worries fade away. What sublime exaltation, what magically endearing serenity, what mesmerized wonder, what loving detachment from the madness of it all, what mystically sweet sensations have flooded all throughout my essence, what wonderfully primitive sensibilities burst from deep within, what freedom of thought & moving around to foreign landscapes to explore & marvel at, what rapture. This song! Amazing!
I miss her so much I don't have a mom and my grandma was a mom to me...😭
I'm 11 and i've been listening since five. LOVE it
I'm 65 and glad you love our 70s. Music
I’m 42 and my 12 year old daughter loves this song, too :)
I'm 16 and I've been listening since I was 12 years old
I miss the Zimbabwe rains!😢 and the Johannesburg electric thunder
Bless this song 🎵 🙏 🙌 ❤️
great shout out to the Wild Dogs of Africa aka Painted Wolves ...one of the most endangered species in Africa ...love this song
Esto definitivamente es arte

RIP SIR MIKE ENRIQUEZ. THIS WAA HIS FAVORITE SONG 🥺 WHILE IM LISTENING THIS, IT HITS DIFFERENT
Hinanap ko din to narinig ko sa funeral ni sir mike
I love dis song
2024 still here 😊
The lines “I know I must do what’s right” and “I seek to cure what’s deep inside, frightened of this thing I’ve become” They describe a constant struggle in myself
I’m happy to say that I’m winning that struggle, but it’s a battle.
You need Jesus if you ain't got him already. JK! 😉 I don't believe in that monstrous nonsense (scientific notation = N to the Mth)
just amazing vibes 2024!!
I bless the rain down in Africa

@heathersmith5154 I hope you are living a good life merry Christmas
Am I the only one that heard the lyrics as there's nothing that a 100 men on Mars could ever do?
Nowhere NEAR the only one! ✋🏻 I still accidently sing it that way at times. Now try this: doesn't solitary mean all alone? Then why are the wild dogs longing for some *solitary company???*
no
yes
God darn it now u can't unhear that lol
Lmaoooo I have thought that for the past 25 years 😂
When I was a kid I always thought it said, "I catch some waves down in Africa" I always thought the song was about surfing, 😂
I used to think it was 100 men on Mars
Easily one of the best songs that has been Out for a long time plus it’s just great in general
Man i really felt that last 🎶ooh ooh🎶
My 13 year old son and I are going to see them in 2 months! So excited!!
Enjoy❤
Sir Mike Enriquez bring me here because this song is one of his favorites
Every time I'm in a bad mood I think of the art installation that someone literally put somewhere in a desert in the middle of Africa that plays this song on endless repeat, forever, powered by the sun. And then I chuckle. (And yes, that is a real thing. Look it up!)
Toto began life musically in 1977
Alguien escuchando ésta joya en 2024?❤
When I listen to this song I always hear, " there's nothing that a hundred men on Mars could ever do." I think I like my version better, lol.
I thought that too until yesterday 😂😂😂 I also thought it said “I guess the rains down in Africa”
When I was a kid and this came out, I thought it was "There's nothing that a hundred men on board could ever do". For years until I found out what they were saying I couldn't reconcile what a bunch of sailors at sea had to do with the African Savanah. 😂
"How do you DO the things you never HAD?"
Had DONE.... 😂
Love this song so much, play this in my funeral
I actually have that in writing, its my favorite song of all time
Ok
In Thabazimbi, South Africa tonight listening to this. It means more now.l

I'm one of those people that miss hear lyrics. I thought this song went, ' I miss the rains down in Africa.' Otherwise, the instrumentals give the song its own vibe. It's smooth and tells a story. Very individual.
oh i thought it was "i guess the rains down in africa" for the years i have been listening to it
I thought that it was “I guess Lorraine’s down in Africa”
