Christian Dior, Dior
#Dior is one of the fashion industry’s most prominent houses. And for over half a century, the brand has been synonymous with femininity, beauty, and a classic, timeless look.
And to think that it all began with a late bloomer who once wanted to become a diplomat just to please his parents! #ChristianDior lived a life full of unexpected changes. From extreme wealth and abundance, to dire poverty and homelesness,... and back again!
Curious to find out how this unusual visionary managed to establish one of the most powerful brands on the planet? Then don’t miss this video!

I can’t afford much of the Dior brand but getting my Dior perfume is my one luxury ❤️
Personally I think it’s overpriced, your only paying for the name😒 you can get just as nice of purses and such at a more reasonable price.

Why was John Galliano exempted from this documentary? John Galliano was also an important and key person that kept Dior alive from the 90s to the 2000s. John Galliano also contibruted highly in creating some if not the most iconic pieces in modern times for the house of Dior
Agreed but once he went on that anti-Semitic rant on a bar it was kinda over for him. Love his designs
He dared criticize the elite
True to that.
I agree!!! Galliano designs are my favorite

This story is so encouraging, it has taught me to always follow my dream and not what others say and to never give up and work hard
To me, it’s hard to tell the story of Christian without telling the story of Catherine. She was more than just Christians brother. Catherine Dior was Christians best friend and one of his greatest inspirations. She fought in the French resistance in WWII, was CAPTURED AND TORTURED, sent to ravensbrück, an all women concentration camp, ESCAPED during a death march and returned to Christian, working to keep his legacy. When he died, she inherited half of his things, and had to sell her house so she could turn their old house into a museum. Catherine was also a lover of flowers, she worker on a farm to grow the beautiful flowers that inspired Christians fragrances. Catherine and Christan Dior were very close growing up, and they even ended up moving to Paris together. When WWII started in the 1940’s and the Germans started to invade, the pair had to move back in with their father. The two had moved often, as war had taken control of nearly everyone's life. “In 1936, Catherine and her brother Christian rejoined Paris together,” Clémence Michallon tells us in an “Independent” article, “Christian found work as a fashion designer, while Catherine sold hats and gloves at a boutique. Separated by 12 years in age, they remained ‘the closest of the Dior siblings.’” Near the end of 1941, Christian had moved back to Paris, leaving Catherine with the rest of the family. While shopping for a radio, an object most important in the midst of war, Catherine Dior met Hervé des Charbonneries, the love of her life. Although he had been married at the time, Catherine had stayed with him after the war, until the end of his life. Hervé and his wife Lucie had an “open marriage,” but still ended up divorcing later on. Madison San Miguel writes about Catherine's love and loyalty in a November 2021 Vogue Magazine. San Miguel interviews an important author in Catherine's story, who will be discussed shortly. “The book first discusses Catherine’s commitment to love, especially to Hervé des Charbonnieres, whom she later joined the French Resistance with,” San Miguel notes. “During the resistance was when she discovered her love for flowers, which she saw as a comfort and meaning for resilience, and became a voice for women. Because of this deep love, the couple became suppliers of fresh cut flowers at Les Halles de Paris Market, and eventually grew roses and jasmine at their Provence home.” Charbonneries had been an early member of the French Resistance, a group in which he fought against Nazi power in france, and helped allies by getting inside information. Under the code name “Caro,” Catherine joined the French Resistance and helped save many lives. English writer, Justine Picardie, found an interest in Catherine's life. The “Miss Dior” writer did not intend to write about Catherine. “After my Chanel biography came out,” Picardie tells “Fashion Network’s” Godfrey Deeny, “I received an invitation to look at the Dior archives with a view to doing a biography of Christian Dior.” Picardie started reading, and she had a connection with Catherine through the little information she knew. “Suddenly I knew a little bit about Catherine,” Picardie says to Deeny, “I know it sounds crazy, but it was as if suddenly she was sort of there as a character and I just knew in order to write about Christian I also had to write about Catherine.” San Miguel, Madison. “‘MISS. DIOR: A STORY OF COURAGE AND COUTURE' EXAMINES THE LIFE OF CATHERINE DIOR.” vmagazine, 17 November 2021, vmagazine.com/article/miss-dior-a-story-of-courage-and-couture-examines-the-life-of-catherine-dior/ Michallon, Clémence. “Secret Resistance figure who fought the Nazis and inspired brother’s timeless scent: The incredible story of the real Miss Dior.”INDEPENDENT, 23 December 2021, www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/miss-dior-catherine-christian-nazi-b1981709.html

Beautiful storytelling on CD's tenacious surviving skill from his ups and downs in life. I was thinking if old French Francs could be used instead of Dollar bills for this narrative film. 👵🤔 🕊️
Actually I want to Chat to you about something in the Video.

Amazing!
I think of my work as ephemeral architecture, dedicated to the beauty of the female body. Christian Dior
Brilliant to Hear what you Said, But I need to Discuss something to you.
Amazing ...
Just a quick correction; Monsieur Dior launched his eponymous brand in 1947, and in the Corolla collection, the stand out piece was ‘The Bar Suit’. This was later coined by Carmel Snow, then editor in chief of Harpers Bazaar ‘The New Look’. Not ‘The New Yorker’ as you mentioned in this video. 😊
"I think of of my work as ephemeral architecture dedicated to the beauty of the female body" totally agree well it might be too stiff to wear but i think there are lots of more than stiff and uncomfortable dress that women would wear to look beautiful, and i think his vision is very advanced feels like he already knew today fashion world👍
Love that YSL was his assistant and Margiela was Jean Paul Gaultier’s assistant! Especially since they hVe different perspectives
Christian Dior I love his clothing perfume handbags shoes extraordinary designer

okay, is it just me, or did all of these broke children create literally the most expensive apparel ever?
Yup they dream about it and make it
Like these name brands history videos
OK, I have to comment on the narrator's pronunciation of French is way off. Also, I'm nearly positive that there's not, nor ever was a Christian Dior shop in Nuuk Greenland!
English is a challenge too. Mispronounced "epitome".
ive never seen a video with more ads
I have one small Dior bag in storage.
Despite never being the kind of woman Dior designed for, I relate through his love of plants, flowers, art and architecture. Since Dior has stuck with Johnny Depp, I have been encouraging them to remove the amber notes in Sauvage, because who doesn't want Amber gone? A 2022 Sauvage JD, a unisex fragrance dedicated to all DV survivors, would sell by the mega pint.
I do not want the amber note gone.

We drove past (by accident) Dior's mansion in Granville on way to Mt St Michel. It's a lovely museum. What that sea side mansion where he grew up...... poverty does NOT inspire high fashion

@@yung21king yet you seem to be the only one who cares enough to comment. Go do something meaningful yourself instead of trying to take away from other's experiences.
@@kindlyignore I’m not trying to takeaway anything, Also poverty dose inspire high fashion that’s why LV directing everything on street wear now along with trashy Gucci and Dior 😘
Was USA money the currency in France back then ?
“The New York” 😂
Dior is too expensive nowadays. I would buy if bags are 2-3000 dollars.
Christian Dior is what the universe gives us when it is showing off...
Is christian dior into any occult?? All those eerie looking designs and patterns
Did you say that he "contacted" tuberculosis? You should have said that he "contracted" it. Did you say that he had financial "banking"? You should have said he had financial "backing".
"Christian contacted tuberculosis." "Hello? Tuberculosis? This is Christian speaking."
You forgot to mention the close ties Dior had with Nazi Germany in WW2.
What's wrong with that ?? He's wright with his decisions and still should be
Dressing wags to survive and finance your Resistant sister is not really "close ties".
@@WSEDT-re6mn ...(Ginette)Catherine was indeed a remarkable woman....

Next time you deal with someone french please make sure the narrator knows the language! This one is appalling!
He needed some common sense only, I don’t speak German and I still don’t massacre German name.
Sadly, the numerous mispronunciations became major distractions from the content.
Why be so limited and not actually look for the spelling if you're going to do a so called "documentary'? Spelling in french is different than english.
How sad that Dior died so young at 52😔😢
U just love dior
Neither of my sons are gay. It's just true. My eldest is a virgin, and my youngest is married and expecting a baby girl.
#believeinyourself
The "New York"? Or do you mean the "New Look"?
Follow your dream
They didn’t invent, they founded the brands.
Yea but the fundamental point is that they created these brands.
Louis Vutton owns YSL and Dior don’t be fooled people you are just paying for the look it’s all the same shit I have 6 designer slides from different brands all the same exact material and feel along with some designer clothes as well

nice video... but the voice here is sooooo irritating
I ahve a black Dior coat
Warning: The visuals are hilarious
Next time get a narrator who doesn't mistake The New Look with The New York and knows how to pronounce 'epitome'.
Did Dior's son die while in the military? Heading elsewhere to find out.
Not a bad idea to pronounce the french names correctly….as it is, it hurts my ears
