Something worth noting. Samsungs with a stylus will always be the group photo king. Because you can use the S-pen as a remote capture trigger. When you click the button on the pen, it takes a picture, or starts a video. So no need to set a timer and run, you just place, walk, click, done.

The trend I’ve noticed is that usually that the Samsung that launches in February beats the iPhone that launches in September the year before, but then the iPhone catches up with their phone in September. This just shows how both companies are insanely good, and neither is really better than the other.

That S23 Ultra camera is going to be scary after a few software updates & feedback. I think the RAW 200MP cropping and zoom will be a game changer for everyday users, it doesn't rely on as many processing tricks like the 14Pro. A great example was a Chinese lantern at night, you could see all the details in a darker shot, the 14Pro was a giant bright blob by comparison. Both great at what they do, I think that Samsung for everyday use really edges it, especially for those who like post editing. It just keeps more detail.
Why would you be scared of a camera update?
wow
@@Jetanium he does not refer to being scared for real bruh

Yeah, exactly the same for me. Now the 23 is technically the best camera phone.... by a long way (I think he said 7.5 vs 4.7 for the iphone).
The zoom is really useful in allday for me, for example if u are near a train station and u cant see the departure times coz its far away I use the zoom to read

Good video! Thanks for the info :) Btw, turn down the exposure on your "stage" shots. The highlights on your face is a bit extreme.
At 7:27 the Samsung video looks much more natural than the iPhone one. This is because of the aggressive dynamic range processing the iPhone does that MKBHD mentioned in his video. I've been an iPhone user for many years and I've always said that this over processing makes faces look very weird at times (I've especially noticed this problem at sunset light) but most people just ignore it.

Me 2
hey you lovin it?
I never understood the need for 10x zoom until my last vacation to Australia. Literally, 10x zoom came in clutch EVERYWHERE. I found myself confidently taking photos of the crocodile feedings, the animals, scenery, crashing waves, and whale watching and literally had at least 5 people in any group we were in wanting me to send them the photos. Not only that, every photo was amazing on the first try. Definitely a confident shooter. Not to mention, object eraser is insane, I was able to remove people from crowded beaches in photos, 2 girls who wouldn't get off a monument, and just remove photo bombers. Not only that, I would come back late to the hotel(s) or get off the overnight flights with over 20% battery after hundreds of photos and videos. This is the go-to phone for real world use and a lot of the 3,000+ photos and 500 4k videos I took would have been possible without the extra features. Especially the SPen that made travel editing super easy. I use both iPhone and Android, but when it comes to travelling, the S23 Ultra takes it hands down. My gf eventually stopped using her 14 PM and just asked me to take all our photos
It's Also really useful when you use it in a concert, where you can use the 10x lens to take photos of the Singers from far away.

@WhoisKell I had iphone twice but my experience is better with Samsung.
I’m not a fan of the automatic “filter” that seems to appear on the Samsung photos. Like, the smoothing and everything. I would rather have that as an option as opposed to automatic so I don’t get surprised at the sudden appearance of skin texture when I look in the mirror versus my selfies. 😅
I'd be curious to see the S23 Ultra compared to the Google Pixel 7 Pro, given it's come to the attention of others recently that the Pixel 7 Pro has kinda surpassed the iPhone's photo capabilities as well. Might be curious to see which two kings of the Android world do better, and in what categories.
Guaranteed the Pixel 7 Pro would demolish the S23 Ultra in virtually every category.
Pixels (and in general Android) have been superior in photos (maybe except RAW), & iphones superior in videos

From what I can tell the only improvement between the S21U and S23U is just software that benefits the S23U with better scene recognition. Hardware wise though the S21U is still a far superior product. The 100mp camera is just better and the 200mp ONLY outperforms at night. I like taking photo's at night so that is a bonus. 2 years later my battery was still good on the S21 ultra but I lost the water seal on the phone and decided to file a insurance claim before it died completely. Good news is the S23U was a free upgrade and i was able to keep my line. I usually give up my number to save cash, Really glad i did not have to.
For me, speed of snapping a moment is important (my siblings have caught on to my sneak shots, so I must be ever faster) and I personally am not a fan of automatic filtering. 😅 I’m still in the iPhone boat, but I will agree for more immediately post-able and aesthetic photos, the Samsung appears to do the job! ☺️

Best camera phone video, 👍 great video even makes you laugh and told me everything I need to know about the Ultra!
great pics and videos from both cameras! I have an s21 ultra and have always been android and I'm excited how the s23 ultra has improved- I take a lot of videos of my daughter performing so the 10X zoom is an important feature for me- definitely considering an upgrade! Having said that, I can't deny that there were shots and videos on the Apple phone that I definitely preferred over the S23. Phone cameras have made point & shoot cameras obsolete and even DSLRs are starting to feel the heat.
Got to agree on that, however there is something about taking photos on an actual camera that just can’t be beaten for me. Perhaps the noise of the shutter or some other element.

Absolutely fantastic! I was really afraid that Samsung would not hit the goals due to using a new sensor that they hadn't manage to optimize the software and other supporting hardware enough for (similar to when the first S20 Ultra with 108 MP main camera still failed to focus properly or get enough detail out of it). But it really seems like the S23 Ultra hits most of the marks and even some. I'm happily waiting for my pre-order to arrive tomorrow or Tuesday! Also, FINALLY getting a Samsung phone with a Snapdragon chipset. I see battery life is positively impacted by that change as well.
Most Phones use Software Processing because their Image is Horrible from the Start. It doesn't Happen on DSLR because it already gives a Good Quality Image.
@@kyousukekoyomi9160 DSLR cameras also do software processing. All digital cameras have an Image Signal Processor which runs a number of tasks to convert the raw sensor data into an actual picture file, demosaicing the info while applying some de-noising and other clean-ups. RAW files are the closest to an unprocessed image, which you can also obtain on smartphones. That said, it's true that smartphones apply more software processing than DSLR cameras do, but that's not necessarily "because their sensors can't provide quality pictures. Quite the opposite, they are meant to make it so that consumers can take photos in auto mode without having to tweak settings to get the right picture, letting the phone do the white balancing on its own, taking multiple exposures to automatically produce an HDR photo, recognizing faces and adjusting the skin tone... Basically they exist to let people without much photography knowledge consistently produce really good photos. You want to skip that because you know how to handle it yourself afterwards? Then just shoot in Pro mode and keep the RAW files.

That shot at 10:44 is so cool with the bokeh effect in the background!!
As always you did a great job. Am actually impressed with the level that Samsung has reached and am a bit tempted to buy the S23 ultra but I think I'll wait for the S24 series.
Also note that future software updates could potentially improve the camera quality, especially if this camera system is set remain in use for a few generations.
Goes for both phones…
@@Farquad76.547 I believe Apple have used this camera set up for a number of generations now. So while yes they could improve, you can assume the development is fairly mature by now.
phones that don't allow you to access and replace the battery don't have a long future so software updates are not that relevant
@TMex the 48 is pretty much new
@@DNFrozen1 heh 😅
Great video!! I’m a 14 year Samsung user and really wanting the new 1phone 15 ultra! It’s a hard decision.
bro you are good at everything but I think you should get a better animation/font for the subscribe prompt in your videos, the animations seems like it's from 2015
i think its actually a pretty good change in design. the silver rings around the camera makes it look more premium
Very minimal design change but that doesn't mean much at all only performance at this point matters. They still copied apple when they had that front facing camera to 12mp
@@Czyb20 BULLSHIT
@@Czyb20 they copied apple? 💀💀💀 they've had 12mp cameras on their phones since the s7
@Properso :D so explain why they bumped the pixels down from 40 to 12 as soon as Iphone developed photonic engine which only has 12mp its pretty obvious but no hate I have a Samsung myself I'm just stating truth
@Properso :D technically samsung wants to be the android version of apple its quite obvious. Apple was first to remove headphone jack, chargers, and developed photonic engine. Samsung is now removing headphone jack, chargers and using photonic engine you have nothing to say to that?
Thank you for the amazing review! I would love to see astrophotography included as a category, though, because that's one of the things which are very hard to do decently for cameras, but one of the key reasons for me (probably not the only one) to buy a phone. If I see a beautiful nightsky, with stars, moon and possibly shooting stars, I want to be able to capture it properly. It's mesmerizing. Imagine a lovely summernight with your beloved ones outside, staring into the sky with a drink in your hand in awe. Whenever I take photos, I want to capture the moment, the experience. And the nightsky is absolutely beautiful imo.
The Vivo X90 Pro+ which is unfortunately not sold globally at least for now, is definitely the best phone for astrophotography. Tried it myself yesterday and it's amazing.
@@flo_h_96 to be fair it absolutely should be, it has a 64mp sensor, and a much wider aperture, if Samsung increased its own telephoto lens resolution and gave it a wider aperture it would massively improve the current 10X camera, and like he said on here, the 100x has basically had no real updating in 4 years, added more as a selling gimmick and afterthought
@@flo_h_96 yeah 100%, but to be fair to other phones, vivo has been making their main quality their cameras
j."
@@jasonlee4267 I agree partially! Altough it has a 64mp sensor that doesn't mean automatically that it is better then a 10 mp optical. That's also down to software. But as Vivo software is one of the best if not the best therefore it is better. And yes the Samsung would be way better if it had a better sensor and wider aperture. I still think having a 3x and 10x zoom camera is the wrong choice unless the 3x also has a 64mp sensor to be able to get good results at for example 9x. As it is for now the gap is to big and results of zoom levels in between are very bad
Am so certain that both companies come here to your content to check their head-on progress competition, lol... 💯🔥
What a useful video ! Thanks.
I got the S21 ultra 2 years ago and last year started filming content for my YT using it. After the 14 came out I seriously considered switching back to apple for the video quality it offers. I'm happy that sticking with Samsung hopefully means I can improve my videos now. It's nice to see I haven't made my usual mistake of picking the wrong one as usual!
For that kind of money you can buy a good DSLR.
@@Phantogram2 then u would need a good pc too to edit and transfer and whatnot. A phone is a packaged deal and a no brainer for some people
@@Phantogram2 I'd struggle to send a text or make a call on a DSLR I reckon
@@MFeXtreme You can send videos to your phone and do the same editing
@@Phantogram2 a crop sensor camera.... But then you need glass for it. And you also don't have the latest flagship phone.... It all depends on what someone is doing with the photography/videography. Totally different animal anyway.
5:16 Wtf happened to the iPhone microphone here
Can you make a video about the display issue with s22 ultra,s23 ultra / iPhone 13/ 14 series? I mean it's okay to have display issues over the time but so many people are having these problems within 6/7 months span. It's scary!
In my opinion I think the s23 camera is too behind the photos aren’t clear and don’t show the detail like the iPhone 14
For a long time in many regards the iPhone's only competitor was the previous iPhone. In the recent years that seems to be changing. Apple got a bit too comfortable. Samsung has been making superb phones (one of the best android phones acutally) since the early 2010s. Now they got to a point where the only difference between the iPhone and the S/S Ultra series is the operating system. Nice one Samsung! :)
I agree. Samsung has a much better display too. I hate the dynamic island
Actually Samsung is the only android that really matters alongside with the pixel.
4:08 Bro tried RickRolling us 💀💀💀
Great review, but what did you mean when you said “while both have optical 3x but iPhone can see further”. How can it see further ?
This video is more likely a comparisson of s22 ultra and s23 ultra 😅
6:28 "8K is 4 times as many pixels as 4K" My brain trying to understand that math
🤣
16K oh boy yeah
its because its in two dimensions. multiply by two in X and Y, and it ends up being 4x the total pixels.
Yesss! My wait is over & done! Thats exactly what i want to see it. I was waiting eagerly for your honest review & comparison on S23 ultra vs iPhone 14 pro max. Now i can peacefully enjoy my Samsung S23 Ultra. Thank you so much. Keep up the good work! All the best, love you 💯👌👏
excellent review thanks
Thank you for this perfect info I been tossing around the idea of getting an s20 ultra but the s20 plus is around the same price range at the moment and for me I need a good camera
