"Game of Thrones" is over, but its legacy lives on. And one of the most memorable parts of the iconic show are the dragons.We caught up with the show's "dragon designer," Dan Katcher. Katcher created the creatures using a digital sculpting program called Zbrush. Katcher takes us through all of the steps he took to bring these dragons to life, beginning with a simple sketch.

You guys did an amazing job. Drogon looked so realistic. He looked 10 times better than Smaug and I’m sure Smaug cost 10 times as much.

@DavidisGamingHD just made the designs and models. Lots of other companies and Artists did the fantastic animation. I know Pixomondo, ILM, Weta,Image engine and Rythm and Huges were all involved as far as I can remember.

I think he explained that he only creates the 3d model and design.The model gets sent to HBO who then hire a VFX company to animate it into the episode.

Best looking and more detailed dragons I've ever watched in a movie or tv series. But still dissapointed with the ending tho.
I love any movie, show with dragons. Even though they’re not real creatures I’ve always been very fascinated by them. I just finished watching the last episode of series Yesterday and I honestly wished I had watched this show years ago because it was really darn good. Of course, my favorite part were the dragons. Never seen more lies, deceitfulness , betrayal and murder in any show or movie until this show. WOW!
I loved Terra Nova! I wished it didnt get canceled. But I'm glad he got to work on GOT.
Imagine making the Transformers in a similar way! It would look a lot more realistic and could be quite a bit more plausible!!!

The thing that bothered me about the GoT dragon designs is below the elbow, the wings are barely attached to the body. It doesn’t look like the body is supported enough to fly by the wings. The body of a bat is completely supported by the wings by comparison. Other than that, brilliant dragon design.
Yeah if the membrane reached to just past the hips then it would be good, any farther and it would cause air resistance though.

Drogon was not done growing when the show ended. Dragon’s can live for centuries and Drogon would have likely grown to be much larger than Balerion the Dread.
The dragons were a huge part of the show, and I felt they were unceremoniously killed with no fan fare. A bit disappointing.

I’d say that these dragons have the most realistic designs I’ve ever seen, but I’m gonna have to look af Syrax for that (even though the CGI of House of the Dragon isn’t as polished as in Game of Thrones). Cause if there’s one, very important thing that Dany’s dragons miss that Syrax does have, is the wing membranes attaching to the root of the tail instead of just in front of the pelvis. With their hips being a heavy point of their bodies, Dany’s dragons wouldn’t have been able to take off and create enough lift to stay aloft (at least not horizontally) with that extra necessary wing membrane missing between the first wing fingers and the root of their tails. I know dragons don’t exist and these are just tv shows, but the painfully inaccurate wings has been bothering me since the start, especially since they wanted to make the dragons look as realistic as possible.

I do love dragons from GOT. They are best Wyrim dragons ever made, better than Skyrim dragons imo. Though I wish they were 4 legs. 2 wings dragons in GOT. They would been so much more deadly if they had 4 limbs and 2 wings. But we all know that in nature. There nothing comes close that has 6 limbs creature in mammals, except maybe insects? The only other myth that 6 limbs would be centaurs. The Wyrim dragons in GOT do make more logical sense in GOT lore. So I do understand why they went this route. I just wish we got more wise/friendly/charming movies like HTTYD or Dragon heart or Eragon. Dragon heart 1 is still my favourite dragon. The rest dragon heart movies were kinda bad Except HTTYD. we’ve haven’t had 4 legged/2 wing dragon moved since. All other western 4 legged/2 Wing moves or tv series with dragons have been horrible. Eragon is perfect example. Sapphire was good looking, well design dragon. Everything else was horrible. The scrip of story, the actors were kinda bad except Jeremy Irons, everything else was just bad, or done so cheep. I’ve never read the books, but hear they 10x better then movie ever was.

@Vanessinha Colson dragons have 2 legs and 2 arms. Wyvern's have 2 legs and their arms are like attached to the wings so it looks like they have no arms which makes the dragons look alot more badass plus wyverns are skinnier.

It's the most realistic. If dragons were real, that's how they'd be. Only insects have 2 wings and 4 or more legs.

In theory, dragons are much more maneuverable than sailing ships. Why didn’t they fly around and attack the ships from behind? Frontal assaults are almost always stupid. Worst episode of the entire series.
as I can tell, they didn't get aerodynamic enough, they should have gotten a biologist, or taken the Vermithrax Prejorative body as the main inspiration.
Why do the Dinasours on Jerassic Park the first movie look way better than this dragon in 2019.....this dragon looks too 3Dish almost like a video game.

Firstly, Jurassic*, secondly, I think that it could be the lighting effects. Also, it takes a lot of layers so that could be why.

Who cares how many legs dragons have? I mean Eastern dragons don't have wings, but who cares? NOBODY. It is a concept coming from the ancient times! Wyverns look like classical dragons. Wyverns are dragons. Period.
