  • I spent thousands of dollars bringing a cat from a war zone that was a kitten and crawled into my bunk in Iraq. Tai was a relief from the stress of being in combat. When I was gone others would take care of him. He saved me more than i saved him.

    • It's Montenegro where they found her. I've been there before. Most of these cats aren't feral strays, but domesticated strays. People generally take good care of all cats, and in turn the cats are free to roam and take care of the snakes and mice. So they are all pretty much half stray, half domesticated, and very used to humans.

    • Considering I've had cats my whole life and am VERY familiar now with their instincts and how they think and feel, I definitely would have never left him there. As would be the case for most of us who watch/subscribe to the Dodo and other animal/pet channels. But I would imagine these 2 were likely either not accustomed to a cat before in general, or at least not familiar with feral cats. I mean in general, you want to leave all wildlife in their natural environment, even if they interact with you or you just feed them, and that's the advice most often recommended and promoted by companies and advocates. I mean I'm sure most of us watching cat videos on here are aware of the difference between friendly wildlife and feral/homeless domestic animals. But simply not being aware that they're 2 totally different concepts/scenarios with solutions in the best interest of the animal that are total opposites not only would be enough to confuse me hypothetically, but then to keeping in mind how often it's said that cats like familiar environments and routines - often worded that they're creatures of habit - I mean looked at from this concept, I can immediately understand how they decided that, and the fact that the bond was strong enough to convince them to turn around, I would bet they didn't make that decision lightly. I mean she clearly comes across as a generally intelligent, rational, and good-hearted person, so luckily after thinking about how strong their bond was and probably endlessly questioning their decision, she had enough intuition to turn around and reunite with their "son" that forced them to adopt him in the first place, hahaha!

    • Well she might have been someone else's cat.If that was a consideration seems reasonable. But I think its more likely that she was someone else cat and was abandoned. Maybe someone moved, or maybe someone died..it happens. In any case domestic cats belong in a home. They can survive outdoors but not well and not very long usually. Im really glad she got a home

Humans poison pests and encroach wildlife areas by building more and more into them. Animals need our help and care now more than ever. Please don't ignore stray cats assuming they will be fine; seems like that's just you (people in general) not wanting the responsibility

Living on the road and constant travelling is not what most animals would like, especially one that has been out in nature for so long. They tried to do what they thought was best for the cat, as any sensible person would. Bernie Wright is correct, selfish is certainly not the right word at all.

    • Tiffany Heath Actually cats are very successful hunters to the point they are endangering bird species because they hunt them not just for food but just for the sake of it,So leaving strays behind just increases the population of strays resulting in deaths for birds and potentially snakes? i know cats put up some good fights against snakes but the better route was to take the stray as just to save birds and the cat itself.

    • They were not selfish. It is true, moving a cat from the area they already know is a risk. And with their mobile lifestyle they weren't sure it would work out. Many cats live long lives out on their own. Selfish would've been taking her, realizing it didn't work out and then leaving her in an area that she isn't familiar with. And btw, it is best to leave stray cats alone UNLESS if you or someone you know is going to take them in as their own.

  • This basically happened to me 11 years ago, she's currently asleep in my lap. I was walking home from a friends house and there was a lil stray kitten that someone had abandoned in an empty lot around the corner from my house. I saw her, crouched down and started talking to her. She ran over and JUMPED into my arms, not even slightly exaggerating here, she leapt at me! I carried her home and she's been with me ever since. This cat adopted ME! She's the sweetest cat I've ever known. She follows me around like a puppy and still comes when called like half the time. Used to be all the time but she's gotten a lil more independent as the years go by. I've gone to great lengths to keep this cat. She's why I got my own apartment instead of a room-mate. It was really hard to earn enough go that extra step but I couldn't leave her! Wasn't an option. She's kept me sane during quarantine! Her name is Furball. Started calling her that before I was sure I could keep her (lived with my mom when she adopted me) and it just stuck. She's been my fur-daughter through some of the worst parts of my life. We ended up losing that house because great recession and I dragged her with me through 2 relatives places before I got out on my own. I even got sober with this kitty's help!

She showed up one day and got fed outside, then three days later went inside, marched up the stairs straight to the kitchen and 'announced' she's staying for good. Our older cats went insane, seeing such insolence. The oldest one, an Alpha lady, even threatened to leave us and, seeing the kid stays in the picture, tried to throw herself under a passing car nearby. I'm not making it up - I saved her in the last moment. This whole situation turned out to be a serious conundrum to solve - it became obvious one of two sides is going to have to go if we want to avoid a tragedy. Fortunately, if it is a proper word in any circumstances, the stray cat got very sick just a few days later. So sick I had to pack her up and deliver to big town vet, one of those with better equipment. I was not sure she would survive, but she did - young cats' endurance is incredible. She never returned to us though - I begged my brother, who lives is said big town, to bring her in. His own cats were much more welcoming, like city folks usually do, and went 'You're staying, kid? Whatever...'. I do not have to add she is now ruling them all with iron paw, of course.

  • Cats tend to choose their people. We had decided to get another pet (cat) and went to a local SPCA. We had planned on letting our 9-year old son pick one. Well as we were looking this ALL white domestic short hair picked ME! She purred constantly so we got her and I named her Snowball and she has been with us 8+ years. She still purrs as long as she's not FULLY asleep.
