With the help of American Veterans Archaeological Recovery (AVAR), American Veterans suffering from the mental and physical wounds of combat reintegrate into civilian life by performing rehabilitation archaeology. Go behind the scenes of the first-of-its-kind partnership between the National Park Service, the American Battlefield Trust and AVAR.
You can learn more about the program here: www.battlefields.org/learn/to...
The American Battlefield Trust preserves America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educates the public about what happened there and why it matters. We permanently protect these battlefields for future generations as a lasting and tangible memorial to the brave soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.

    • Sir, enjoy your trip to Chickamauga and don’t forget about Missionary Ridge, Ringgold Gap, and Lookout Mountain. All are in the vicinity. As a fellow veteran, I wish you the best travels and really take in what the battlefields have to offer.

  • As a veteran I always felt sorry for those who never served and don’t understand the honor and camaraderie that happens in the military. And this is great program.

  • Interesting video!! Having visited that battlefield many times (I live about thirty minutes away) I recognized many of the locations shown. Good to see such a worthwhile program going on there.

  • If we don't understand where we have been we are less equipped to understand where we are going. Bravo to AVAR, ABT and NPS for professional, caring and important excavations.

  • Saving history is very important. I am happy to see the park service recognizing that importance applies to non NPS persons.

    • I'm sure they where collected. Mabby they didn't show them so they wouldn't encourage people to go out to look for stuff.
