  • The pride at knowing her mom was happy with the move to A6 made me smile not so much about the move but her relationship with her. It's just so damn wholesome lol

  • The magic is the process..as a kid, my neighbor was 80 yr old and we went into his garage where he showed me his rock tumbler..coffee can tied to a motor with a band. We went to backyard and found some stones and put them in with bit of liquid and grit and he told me to come back next day. When I came back the following day, thru friction and rubbing against each other, the rocks were amazingly polished and beautiful stones. That’s my metaphor for someone working really hard about what they’re passionate about…it’s noisy, it’s hard, it’s friction against each other but in the end it will be beautiful chess. Keep on keepin’ on.

  • I remember reading a grandmaster was asked, 'What do you do when you are at a disadvantage in a game?" The answer was, "Sit tight and hope for a mistake by the opponent." I don't play chess but I do play other strategy games and it's good advice, keep playing as well as you can and maybe you'll get an opportunity

  • Anna, I have a mind trick question, When you are close to the board, couldn't it be a case of of not seeing the forest for the trees? Chess is so much a game of recognizing the patterns that are developing. If you sit back and see the whole board from a "distance", so to speak, would that help, because your Mother recognizes patterns sitting back and watching you. Maybe focusing on all the possibilities makes you blind to some obvious move/pattern. Just andidea. CHeers, Rik Spector
