It’s time for the ultimate BMW drag race - most powerful ICE vs most powerful EV!
We’ve got Mat lining up in the BMW M8 Competition, and he’s facing off against Yianni in the New BMW iX M60!
So let’s check out the stats. Starting with the M8, it’s powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that can deliver 625hp and 750Nm. It tips the scales at 1,975kg, and to buy a new one today it’ll set you back around £110k.
Then we have the iX M60. It’s equipped with a 105kWh battery pack as well as two electric motors. Combined these produce 619hp and an eye-watering 1,100Nm of torque! It’s pretty heavy mind, at 2,584kg, and it’s slightly more expensive than the M8, at £117,000.
So the horsepower is pretty similar, but the iX has way more pulling power. Will the extra weight be its downfall? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

it's not reaction times. watch it frame by frame and read the physics "On average, reaction time takes between 150 and 300 milliseconds." _Scientific American_ Mat's was one frame out of 25, which is 40 milliseconds. It's not reaction time it's guessing and putting your foot to the pedal.

You'll be waiting a long time I reckon. Bought my M8 2 years ago for 90k and hovering around the 80k mark at the moment. Not sure will depreciate as much as older models and there's not a lot of them.Time will tell I suppose

Great video as always. The M8 makes the m60 look slow.... it isn't, it's just the M8 is blisteringly fast rather than just extremely fast. Plus it's a 2 seater sports car, rather than a heavy SUV ! I know which one I'd have a a daily driver.

I love the fact that someone as rich as Yianni as able to see and say just how overpriced these garbage electric cars are, and how overpriced cars are in general these days!
unfortunately they're the future. Though I wouldn't say they're trash, for most people at least. Because for the everyday person a car is just an appliance to get from A to B for which EVs are perfectly suited. Not to mention those kinds of people are often driving those depressing 3-pot bangers or rattly oil burners and I don't think anyone is going to be sad about losing those.
@killernerd I think electric vehicles are a good transition but hydrogen fuel cell is the future.
@@jazmark1719 Perhaps, Toyota thought (thinks?) so too and went all in on hydrogen some years back. But the rest of the industry seems to have made a decision and it's not hydrogen. Just by looking at where most of the money is going. Especially when it comes to refueling/recharging EVs have the advantage. Because electricity is already everywhere whereas there's barely any hydrogen infrastructure. Granted hydrogen cars have the advantage in speed of refueling, range, and in the fact they don't require a massive battery. On the other hand the way most hydrogen is currently produced is by breaking down hydrocarbons into h2 and co2 so not really clean. Electrolysis is also not that efficient. So if you look at total system efficiency then EVs win again. Who will win in the end? Who knows, but for the moment it looks like EVs are going to become the norm for the time being.
EV's still mostly rely on fossil fuels to charge them and mining lithium out of the earth is also harmful to the planet. There is also the lack of infrastructure too. The power grids couldn't even handle everyone charging their cars at night. Hydrogen fuel cells solves all these problems but there is a long way to go yet.
