It's why I love this movie and his character. It's like he's making it so obvious and sticks out like a sore thumb, but due to how trash society is, especially rich elite capitalist wall st. etc circles, nobody notices he is 'utterly insane', because so is society. The irony being that Patrick tries so hard to fit into American ideals, he doesn't realize he fits in perfectly - a complete psychopath.

The part where Patrick straight up tells Paul he’s an insane murderer because Paul is too drunk to even understand it is genius
Unless it’s in his head of course, but this is purposely left ambiguous. It’s up to us, the viewers to decide.

It’s because they all know Paul’s card is better than theirs. Impressive, very nice…
Paul Allen is like the top gun, they're a bit in awe and jealous.
LOL all the business cards say "vice president" classic
askia bilal with the same phone #
Well, there are several VPs in an investment bank
@AbolK2 And he is over analyzing it and obsessed with status.
@ronj7677 It was the 80's, you called into the main switchboard and asked to speak to whomever because they didn't have direct lines.
In finance vice president really just means assistant manager, so you'll have loads of them for each account.
Good to see morb stopped by for a cameo in this
Every line in this movie is fantastic.
When he talks to the homeless man he legit sounds like the joker.
He sure did in your mind
Yo is that Refan Staab?
You either die a hero..
@@PsychoMetalKid or live long enough to see you become Da Villain
Fuckin disturbing scene honestly. I think about civilizations like the Roman or British empires. In this scene, and others surely, you can see he believes himself way above the homeless guy, maybe even humanity itself. "You just have a negative attitude, I don't have anything in common with you." Like he's undeserving of the same existence as himself. Don't mean to rant it's just you know its art when it makes you think. The director/writer had something to say.
"There is a moment of sheer panic when i realize that Paul's apartment overlooks the park, and is obviously more expensive than mine." Comedy gold.
"I calm myself, and move into the bedroom" lmao
Agreed, i like the card comparing scene better though
@@SlayerFoxX Legit folded when he said that. I watched this movie for the first time 2 days ago. Amazing.
Aww whit brilliant lol simpky irresistible
“They don’t have a good bathroom to do cocaine” I almost spit out my drink 😂
ive still been waiting for part 2 after 14 years
Part 2 and 3 were taken down by KZhead
I think his most versatile scene, besides the climax where Bateman is confessing on the phone, has got to be in the dry cleaners. He goes from frantic to angry to calmly psychopathic, back to angry to livid to gobsmacked to defeat to masking himself as a timid, yet friendly person to aprehensive while giving on mild expressions of still being livid all in 30 seconds. Fucking brilliant.
Patrick Bateman is a sociopath and doesn't understand basic human interaction, let alone possess any ounce of empathy. When communication fails, he tries all the means he can think of, one by one, like a broken record, in the hope that one of these approaches will work.

Haha yer name?
"Insider trading? Just joking!" (Totally serious face) "Hey Hamilton, have a holly jolly christmas" Love that movie hahaha
You know you're obsessed with this movie when you can recite the whole "Do you like Huey Lewis and the News?" speech to random strangers at the bar.
Victor Velocity most people don’t listen to the lyrics but they should because it’s not just about the pleasures of conformity and importance of friends but about the band itself
Blue Cheese I'm pretty sure he said the importance of trends
All jokes aside, I genuinely felt bad for Al and his dog. I'm glad that scene was cut a bit short in this video
Me too. That poor little dog. 😭
My interpretation is that it didn't actually happen.
@@ThePaperSun we really don't know for sure what really happened
yeah I skip over that part in this video (not in the film). Iyts just too much of a downer after laughing my ass off for all the rest of it

I can't believe the Bryce prefers Van Patten's highlight clip to mine.

Am I the only who felt absolutely horrible for the homeless man? Yes, it’s fictional but it was heart wrenching, him begging and the dog next to him🥺
Nah mate I’m utterly insane
Same, I adore this movie but I find that scene so hard to watch, it's so disturbing
That's the whole point
@@Naruto_from_the_Naruto_show yea I know that’s the point, doesn’t make it less hard to watch for me
@@rileyhawkins9777 I know it doesn't, it is terrible. The book is even more cruel
i like how later on in the movie, his main excuse for leaving is that he had to return some videotapes. we see it when patrick attempts to strangle luis, minutes later when he is back in his office being questioned by detective kimball, and lastly when he breaks up with evelyn. also another short running joke i liked was that in the beginning of the movie when bateman had to leave, the other person would say, "oh you’re going to _____ isn’t that uptown/downtown?"
"No Luis, It's not me. You're mistaken." i love that line
This movie is quite possibly the most underrated movie of all time. Straight masterpiece.
i have to agree
+MrLilfee disagree, I think the film is in parts, especially the first half, the funniest I have ever seen. At the same time I struggle to watch it all the way through, I think because I find it so empty and crushing on the mind and soul. That is of course the purpose of the film, to show how empty and shallow the world Bateman lives in and how mad it drives him. But I dont know, I respect it but dont think its a great film. Ironically like I said it gets more laughs out of me than any other film.
"underrated"
While I agree that it is a masterpiece, it definitely isn't underrated. Pretty much every movie buff I know absolutely adores this movie.
MrLilfee it's a pretty popular film and book. People forget the book is quite well known in reading circles.
"is that a gram!?" LMFAO that character is always taking about coke
Lol he's my favorite character. I heard he went to rehab
I mean you can't have a movie about yuppies without at least 1 coke head.

"there's a moment of panic when I realise Paul's apartment looks over the park" says the man carrying the dead Paul's body.
Nothing compares to the watermark scene. Not Paul Allens untimely axing, not twirling a chainsaw down the halls in his birthday suit, or even checking himself out while forking those two babes. Look at that subtle white colouring.
VivaMessico What a disgusting human being. You’re pathetic.

After watching Worst Acting Compilations and then these clips, I realized that if it were any one else half of these scenes could have ended up there. He really delivers.
I never realized how hilarious Bale is in a lot of these scenes. It almost comes off as a comedy
Patrick scowling at the pig while wearing reindeer antlers is one of my favorite frames in any movie.
Someone put them on his head.

Mine is when he scrounches his face up when Paul allen comments on cecilia's ass
Patrick scowling at the pig while wearing reindeer antlers talking to a stuffed polar bear with a thick German accent and gaily ringing a bell while rocking on an antique rocking horse is one of my favourite frames.

This is one of these situations where if Bale made this now he would win every award in site.
But there were so many good movies at that time.
Absolutely! We're in the worst age pf cinema possibly ever now. They make epic films now but nothing great.
To break up some awkward silence during a client meeting, I decided to spark some laughter and did the business card scene when clients handed over the card....let's just say that there was 30 sec of just stare and silence and it was yeah more awkward

I still do. Initially it did not go down well because they didnt get it then during the follow up, I mentioned this clip and they wrote back.....at least you didnt enter with a bat, nail gun and murder us. @@wym5311 - I always thought that “company culture” stuff in college was bs. But it’s actually incredibly important. I can’t stand working with a bunch of stiffs who act like everything is the end of the world and have no sense of humor. The laundry shop lady said "so dirty so dirty so dirty, so troubled (cleaning process), need to breach, so dirty so dirty.." til Bale said in 1:45 "I'll kill you" the lady reply "Ai ya (toughly translated like "what the hell...."), Then replied "Mr., Mr., I want to tell you, Mr, Mr, ..."
