  • Just remember what Fergie WON in Scotland long before he went to Manchester.

  • We know SAF has been a football Genius, from a Management point of view, but i feel the term ' Benevolent Dictator' comes to mind! And i'm a London born Spurs fan ( with Irish Parents& always a fan of Charlton,Law and Best) But i put Sir Matt Busby,Bill Shankly and Jock Stein ahead of him!

    • I neglected to mention how he was given the Horse 'Rock of Gibraltar' as a gift from the Previous owners( JP McManus, John Magnier, and I think there was another 'Dude' Dermot ?? ) of Man u ( in 2006 or something?) The top Middle distancer in Europe at the time& he felt he was being short changed because they held on to the 'Breeding Rights' So in his wisdom he decided to take his Employers to court, but when a few Stories popped up about his Son& Transfer transactions ( I think he was a Agent or something) he sensibly backed down! Quite an embarrassing situation for all& they( The owners) must have thought he's one ungrateful C##t to say the least!

    • I'm Scottish and a Celtic fan and I would not put any of those managers above Ferguson. What he done with Aberdeen gives him the edge in my opinion. To win a European trophy with Aberdeen is some achievement, to beat Bayern Munich in the semi and Madrid in the final makes it more of an achievement, think they also won the super cup. Jock Stein was similar to him in the way he ran things, total control, it was easy to be a bit of a dictator in those days because the clubs held all the power, no player got a transfer unless it suited the manager and the club. Shankly and Busby would have been ruthless when they had to be, though they might have gone about it in a different manner. Ferguson also managed after Bosman and was managing multi millionaires who had if anything more power than the club. He won trophy's over four decades, four European trophy's, and was a bit unlucky to come up against one of the best European teams of all time in another two CL finals-- Barcelona. All four managers were greats of the game and that is the main thing, but if I had to pick one Ferguson would shade it. Do you know Ferguson was willing to take the Spurs job ? might have been 84 or 85, Spurs decided to give it to someone else.

    • @@mytmt1613Football is all about opinions & u make a strong argument, but I just think,Sir Mat Busby was nearly killed& lost most of his top players in the Munich Air Crash disaster &came back to rebuild his Team ( And the City was in a state of shock, which was totally understandable) &managed to create a Team to win the League &European Cup! Bill Shankly took Liverpool out of the lower Div&totally injected a mindset into his Team & gave a much beleaguered City something to feel proud about & he really knew how to connect& had respect for the fans! And I think Jock Stein, was the same &he also created a Fantastic team to triumph in Europe and was very much a ' Man of the People'.. And I was remiss in not mentioning Brian Clough,&what he did at Derby County and of course Nottingham Forest, where we can be absolutely certain, it will never be achieved again! And yes,I only recently found out that Tottenham were interested in SAF but that would never have worked out,his no nonsense attitude & no time for BS and ambition would have overwhelmed the silly Ass,casual mentality at Tottenham! Who run a steady ship,& make Dough, but have never really grasped the concept that to achieve success u have to go & look for it( be hungry) because it won't just turn up on ur Doorstep!

  • Ferguson didn’t have to compete against clubs who had more money than them during his era.

  • I have never liked Ferguson, but his job as manager is to win trophies and there was no better person ever in the British game than him. He didn’t mind who he crossed whether internally or externally from Man United, but this journalist just talks about things he doesn’t do it he talks about doing it?

  • Back in the early days of MUTV you got to hear many stories from SAF's POV and he trusted the journos to speak to the players. Even had live call ins to the players. But it went to far. Especially after the Boro' 1-4 game Keane interview. As a Man Utd fan I could see the dangers of players speaking hard truths to the media. That sort of thing should be kept internal. I appreciate the media have a job to do. But it's down to the manager to protect his players. With the class of 92 and especially Ryan Giggs. Who came through by himself...SAF didn't an exellent job. By buying the drinks and putting arms around you was his way of saying 'no hard feelings'.

  • Like many geniuses Fergie was/is an enigma. I’ve read many stories of his generosity towards ex Man U players, even those who didn’t even make it the first team, taking time out to call them and even remembering their kids names etc. but of course, he could be a right narky b**tard as well. I always found it odd that a man who was after all an ex union official could treat journalists the way he did. They were just making a living, the same as he and his fellow dock workers were back in the day. But Fergie was very much old-school in that it was very much an “us against them” thing. As a Liverpool fan I can’t but help having enormous respect for him. I hated him 20 years ago but I’ve grown to admire his achievements and his dedication.

    • Frank as a journalist had integrity, most don’t have any integrity there’s no comparison between honest dock workers and journalists who work for the mostly Murdoch press and the tabloid rags

  • I''m sorry but this guy has made a completely inappropriate correlation here ... interviewing a journo is NOT the same as interviewing a Premiership football player, not in this day & age - when the psychological & emotional welfare of the players is vital to the success of the team and there are huge sums of money involved. I'm sorry mate but you are in the end just another hack and you cannot compare yourself with the football manager let alone the manager of a team the size of ManU.
