Agents are some of the coolest fucking villains ever written and filmed. Everything from the unsettling cadence, the impossibly perfect suits and earpieces, their overwhelming power gives them a screen presence that few other antagonists have managed to rival. Even the non-Smith Agents are such a force to be reckoned with.
Half of the agents' swagger comes from the knowledge of their own power. Only Neo is able to throw them for a loop, so it's no wonder that their self-confidence is absolute. They are, programs. 1s and 0s. Swagger variable set to 1, fear to 0. Proceed with ass-kicking. Simplicity, efficiency, and power. Impeccably managed by the script writers and portrayed by the actors. That's why they stick out compared to other villains, I suppose.
They were even more scary in the first film
@@daustin8888 the series was at its best when Neo had to fear agents and couldnt be anywhere at any time to save people
@@maxmercurythemm827 couldn't have said it better myself.
Hugo did too well. "Why Mr Anderson, why do you keep living??"
Look at the cinematography. No quick cuts, no shaky cam. The beautiful choreography is captured masterfully.
One thing the Wachowskis still do is stick to real cinematography and not cave to fad/cheapskate shaky cam
@@NYG5 Yep, from the Ressurections trailer you can tell they're still probably sticking to the good stuff for the action scenes. If anything, we expect a movie from this franchise to NOT look like one of its hundred lesser copycats.

Já perdi a conta de quantas vezes eu vi o neo defendendo os socos dos agentes com apenas um braço é incrível a câmera não corta e ainda dá zoom 😯
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate how beautiful that first opening kick from the agent was?
Daniel Bernhardt is an excellent martial artist. Really beautiful and well executed kick.
That whole scene up to the punch was 🔥
He clearly used punches to break the door open. You can tell by his posture plus chest level hits, dummy.

I agree. I think resurrections ended like the first matrix. Neo finding his mojo. Hopfully the next one is better. If there will be one... and not in 10yrs lol
The first few seconds of this where Neo blocks everything with one arm is one of my favorite moments from any movie ever

@@younglove3362 are you sure though? because while neo was attending the meeting, those two just had to stand guard there. neo just left the meeting because he felt something was wrong
@@cheatsykoopa98 Uhh....Neo is The One. He has that matrix image reader to notice cryptions and programs, he's the only one able to fight the Agents, henceforth why he called the meeting over. Neo is like Wolverine from XMEN, only he gets along with Cyclops, I mean Morpheus.
The fact that the Agents got upgrades specifically designed to fight Neo but he still whoops the shit outta them is awesome.
I love how the agents aren't actually punching through that lofty barrier or breaking through anything physically tangible. They're simply using a powerful backdoor to *hack* the code and gain access.
um... what?? they are punching through the door The whole point of neo is that he is the only "ONE" that can truly break the laws of the matrix Agents don't need to "hack" the code - you don't hack a system that you are actively apart of and trying to maintain.

Indeed!
pretty sure it was "Hi new fellas"
“Hi ya fellas. I ain’t running from you.”
"Sir, how are we going to explain this fight scene? Neo melted agents in the last movie." "Hmmmm, upgrades"
Considering what happened to Smith after that, I don't think doing it again would be a great idea.
Much like what developers do when a bug is found most likely the architect patched the matrix to prevent Neo from deleting agents again. Or at the very least introduced upgrades to existing agents to prevent this from happening.
It makes sense when you think about that they are software. They got a content pack
The Wachowskis: IT IS "MA'AM"!
Well, if the machines can add new Agent programs to the Matrix any time they like, maybe destroying them is pointless.
Matrix Reloaded has the best fights coreography that i ever seen.

Najnowsza cześć wyglada po prostu TANIO i zrobiona na szybko na kolanie. It’s the best matrix idc 💯
It’s without a doubt one of the most underrated sequels of all time. Can’t say the same for Revolutions though. That one’s just flat out bad. Idk how people can defend it. Hopefully, Matrix 4 will be great.
In my opinion every movie of these three is unique in own way, i really cant choose which one is the coolest, I love beggining of entire world in 1, I love music score in 1 & 2, I love action scenes on zion in 3, I love fight scenes in 2 the most, I love that serious emotions in 3. All these movies are amazing and i just cant wait to see more in matrix 4. I need trailer right nowwww! :)
I can only imagine how incredibly liberating it must feel. Not just being able to fly, but also fighting and winning against agents who were the single greatest threat to their resistance. The most powerful creatures in the matrix. He gets to exist in the matrix without fear or limitation
@@MegaMisterSir they actually had guns and a emp so yeah the agents were the worst and they went free from The matrix would become like agent Smith and in addition to that they could alert the machines to come after the resistance.
Neo sees matrix has codes and not as virtual reality that's what makes him better than others.
Considering its all nothing but another ploy by machines to keep free humans busy and make them believe in they are fighting for something. The One, the agents, zion and etc are all parts of calculated equations done by machines.
To be fair, Agents are not the most powerful creatures in the Matrix. They are still bound by the limitations of the system because they are created to perform within its parameters and be dependent of it. Very talented hackers can potentially surpass them, and rogue programs and viruses - the latter two still existing within the system despite breaking its rules - are more than capable of exceeding their capabilities, because such limits do not 'technically' apply to them. Just look at Seraph, for example. That being said, Agents are, indeed, the single greatest threat to the Resistance, since said rogue programs and viruses are usually more interested in doing their thing rather than mess with the system, with the exception of Smith, of course.
@@IlkerYuceler true how come still machines didn't find the survivors location and kill all of them, to the machines humans are like animals even when they are out of the zoo humans are being watched and studied, they simply want to make humans believe they have hope and they want to take the sample of Love, being said all that the humans are still bound to machines whether they are plugged in or they are out it's all the same.
One of the best things about the matrix movies is the fighting styles of all the characters. Agents strike with raw power and tenacity, straight punches and kicks and don’t really tend to do anything creative. While humans like neo and Morpheus do crazy stuff like in this scene, flipping over the agent to kick the other, jumping in the air landing kicks, etc etc. Details like these you don’t see enough of in action movies anymore and is what makes these movies so great
Interesting.
This fight scene is brilliant because it’s comicbook inspired. Neo acting like Spider-Man; fluid, agile, dynamic in movement and nonchalant in expression just subtly disposing of these agents who are like pests. The cinematography and editing are executed to sublime effect. The perfect combination of technical craftsmanship meets artistic value. The agents are robust, logical, astute whilst Neo is liberated because his ascension into an anomaly has enabled him to break the rules and free his mind hence how he defeats the agents with ease. They are still dependent on the system that created them whilst Neo has overcome his basic programming and evolved into an omega being. Visually and creatively this scene is so metaphorical it’s mind blowing. Everything clicks, the choice of soundtrack coupled with the set design, art design, costume, lighting, filters give it that neo-noir feel. By far my favourite fight scene in the entire series.
The purpose of Matrix Resurrections was to be so awful that the trilogy can be appreciated.
Sounds right

What I love about this fight most, is that they didn't nerf thr agents just to make neo look good. If you watch again, keeping an eye on one specific agent each time, theres never a moment that they just stand there, and you can tell that they are still competent fighters, but so thoroughly outclassed.
That's true, especially bcos a lot movies/shows today simple try to prop up the hero by making the opponent look worse.
@@zuriyel5368 Sadly this happens to Agents in Matrix 4.
In fact they nerfed Neo from the Matrix to this in Reloaded
@@IN-tm8mw There were no Agents in Matrix 4, unless you count the modal Agents.
Because they work in tandem together but even doing so they are basically code that Neo can read in the Matrix and are predictable in their movements as well as him being like a god in the Matrix he far outclasses the agents who are just masters of movement but not perfect in it
I love this scene, you can tell that even the agents have hesitation of fighting neo when one of them asks “do we proceed?” Just knowing that they are so strong, fearless and emotionless to anyone they come across makes this scene so cool that even the gatekeepers of the matrix fear the one.
There is just some serene beauty in watching a brilliantly choreographed fight scene, where the protagonist actually has to take on multiple opponents simultaneously
The fluidity of his movements in the second movie shows the massive difference in the character Neo and in Keanu's own skills from the first movie. It's really something.
During filming of the original film Keanu had surgery which limited his movements
Isso é o ápice do Kung Fu nunca vi uma sequência de defesa de socos com um braço apenas. Sem corte de câmera, zoom nós movimentos, e sincronia absurda de defesa. Imagina o trabalho que tiveram para filmar essas cenas
The fight choreography is just so much better in Reloaded. I know most people shit on the second and third movies but the action sequences were much better executed than the original.
yeah- this is one of my favorite scenes in the trilogy. Not only is the choreography really crisp (yuen woo ping is GOAT), great lighting and effects even now, terrific music- but the scene also does some terrific show-not-tell storytelling. We quickly understand the aftermath of the first movie without the need for exposition. Neo no longer has to take agents particularly seriously and the self-doubt he struggled with before has been resolved. I love the scene enough that I wish it was longer, but that would undercut the point that's being made.
@@TheChrysalis83 To me this shows that Neo was nerfed from the end of the first movie to this to make the story possible.
I remember one of the arguments about this movie was how Neo was able to beat the upgraded agents so easily. It's right there in the first movie, when Morpheus explains that their speed and strength is based on a system of rules.
@JevvoBruv Exactly my thoughts. I wondered why he wasnt instagibbing them. They nerfed him (compared to end of the matrix) to make this movie more easy to write
Cola Lightyear but the agents in this scene go down in 3 kicks.. How is that nerfed? In my opinion its just the writers being creative with Neo’s skills.
@JevvoBruv they got upgrades bitch listen 1:06
@JevvoBruv It's not supposed to be easy. Neo realizes that these agents are upgrades over previous ones when one of the agents blocks his punch at 1:06. Before that, he's just blocking their attacks with just one hand like the 1st movie.
@@colalightyear7859 Firstly, they are upgrades over previous agents. See 1:06. Secondly, instagib has repercussions, look at what happened to Agent Smith.
This one fight is better than all of resurrections
This sequence right here is masterful. The agent swings neo in the air then proceeds to do a jump punch but neo spin around to catch him with a turnaround kick. So beautiful
When you see how much trouble Morpheus had to defeat one of these agents, and how easily Neo beat 3 of them, this shows how powerful he has become
these agents are much much stronger than Smith and Jones of Matrix 1
@@carlomagno7092 Upgrade is the word of description for them. But still not enough =))
Or how much worse the movie is scripted
Not mentioning that they can't even touch him. XD
That's because neo became powerful at the end of the 1st movie
I love how Smith didn't even bother trying to disguise himself, just straight up knocked on the door in his full Agent getup, all so he could send Neo a taunting gift
V for Vendetta style too. Maybe they were referencing his next movie. Seeing that he came with the silhouette light shining behind him to shade his face
Smith didn’t disguise himself because his plan was to lead the Agents to Neo. If you listen to their dialogue after they break down the door it implies they were really hunting Smith and didn’t expect to find Neo there at all.
@@MrSoopSAyeah!!! God I hope this is the answer to this cause I feel like people don't realise what actually happened here and I've been trying to figure it out for years, literally
IT WAS NOT A TAUNT BECAUSE IT SHOWS HE UNPLUGGED HIS BUTT HOLE
Interestingly, his suit is all black instead of having the green tint all agents' suits had.
The fact the oscillation caused by Neo flying goes up the wall and then reflects back is (chef kiss). It shows whoever designed that effect understood more than just CGI software but also material properties - it WOULD reflect off the roof if the building were mildly elastic, since the energy cannot just vanish. It's a subtle thing but it shows the production team had such attention to detail, it sells how Neo is literally altering the laws of physics whenever he's using his "powers".

I'll never understand why this film gets so much hate. I remember watching this and many scenes on repeat when it came out on DVD.
people hate what they dont understand
Honestly? Two things. 1. Pacing: - the pacing is all over the place. The film often jumps between a 10 minute or so philosophical exchange to a 20 minute chase scene, or a lengthy fight sequence. It can be quite entertaining at times, if not also jarring/exhausting (upon multiple viewings). 2. Structure & storytelling: - It has a difficult time melding the “show and tell” mindset, either doing an over abundance of showing OR telling. Some parts feel draggy and overlong, as if to say; “keep looking at how much stuff we can show/tell you about our movie’s themes and ideas.” etc Verdict: - It’s ambitious and has entertaining scenes all throughout = but add them all together and at times it can feel “excessive and prolonged”. Almost like an early draft of a movie that you’re meant to simplify, but never got to edit. Alas, Just my 2 cents
@@robbifidelino4654 1. i've never seen anyone complaining about anything like pacing. Maybe people had higher standards of cinema back then in 2000, but thats just a silly excuse to throw hate. We get it the first movie was great but reloaded adds more action. Thats not weird pacing, its action. And the dialogue scenes arent that long. 2. This one i can partially agree with. Some scenes were unecessary (or unecessarly longer than needed, like the fight scene with seraph ie). But then again you have to admit some of the best most iconic scenes of the trilogy came from reloaded. The highway chase, chateau fight, the architecht revealing something far more disturbing than the matrix itself. That and the amazing soundtrack pairing. 3. Had this movie come out today people would go nuts. At least for a sequel, Reloaded kinda stands pretty well on its own, unlike the abysmal amount of sequels/reboots/remakes/spin offs we are getting these days
@@robbifidelino4654 oh and revolutions sucks btw EDIT that one is a perfect example of pacing problems tho, and the action scenes lacked big time, not to mention almost no relevant dialogue took place, like they ran out of words to put on the script when Revolutions was in production lol
Kazuyaa94 Sure! But to be fair, you’ll have to take Reloaded and Revolutions as one whole experience if I’m not mistaken. They were filmed back to back and were intended to be one united storyline. Also, I thought Revolutions was fine. Where I thought THAT film left more to be desired, I felt like Reloaded gave me a little bit more than I needed...or wanted.
Huge credit to the casting directors for selecting these three as the Agents. Especially the first one, Agent Thompson. He has just the right amount of frown lines to make him look menacing yet professional.

Reloaded was a better sequel than we deserved.
As a kid watching this movie I wanted to be Neo so bad. I would tell my grandma I was going to grow up to be The One, I use to fight the air, doing cartwheels imaging myself in the Matrix, getting into that take off stance and jumping up like I was flying. Neo was my superhero.
You are in the matrix…if you understand what the movie is about lol

Also smith transforms everybody to copy of himself soon after
@@schwartzy65 yeah he sticks his fingers into victims chests right?
Still entertaining as hell watching him toy with agents other than smith 😂
Exactly because putting them in a room together to fight would be futile. They're destined to lose while he is destined to win. It would be unfair to put agents in a room with someone who they cannot dream of competing with nor challenging in any significant way because they don't possibly compare.
@@whitneyrose8265 It has nothing to do with 'fair' and everything to do with 'entertaining'. It's the same reason we don't see Rocky fight against homeless bums or disabled children. I love this movie and the evolution of Neo, he punches the agents effortlessly yet the punches are powerful enough to knock them out. Totally what you would expect from the chosen one.
I remember watching this in theaters as a teenager and the whole room busting out in laughter when Neo said "Hmm... upgrades" 😂
He threw that quick jab with his off hand and once the agent caught it he knew they were improved from the older agents.

@@evgeniyushkov7103u miss the point tht he basically playing around here doesn't take the agents or anything serious since the matrix is his playground now hence why he like u said seems weak

Hugo Weaving is amazing as Smith
Eh... Peaks and valleys.
I love how they amplified the view of the clouds and the moon while Neo was flying at the end of the fight. It is so mesmerizing. Ill bet we all see ourselves in Neo during his flight. This scene alone resembles a dream
Exactly, i love the feeling of that
When you learn how to control your dreamscape you can do anything and everything. Getting chased by monsters? There's a Blast Wave for that! Someone shooting at you? Shields up! It's like playing Doom in God mode!
What does it mean to dream? I never dreamed...
@@spaceflight1019 if somehow figured that out in my dreams, you know how clumsy it is to run in a dream? at some point i did this thing where i'm one feet off the ground and push myself off like i'm on a skateboard. Also floating in directions i want to get away from something that is a threat.
@@pascal-janssen , just like the "there is no spoon" kid, you just have to learn how to push through. me here after watching matrix 4 to compansate this feeling :(
This is the best choreographed fight scene in matrix. The way that music plays along with the fight is phenomenal
“The meeting is over, retreat to your exits. Asians are coming.” “Asians!?”
furious 8spect Well, it’s neither of our comments, really. Someone made it years ago on another video. It never gets old though haha.

I can’t get enough of that first kick. Perfection.
0:59 It's an epic scene, but I always laugh at the agents just waiting off to the side before charging too, lmao.
They wanted to quickly evaluate their upgrades before fully proceeding.
I love how the Smiths smile at each other. It’s almost cute, in an unsettling, evil kinda way.
Me too. I can't help but smirk a little myself at that moment. lol
but not exactly ;)
"Me, me, me..." - Me too! :D

Hugo Weaving is non ironically the best thing about this movie and Revolutions. He knows the character is made of pure cheese and just goes with it.
I can't believe Matrix 4 thinks it's part of THIS saga

The violin and trumpets as Neo leaps towards the heavens at 1:49. Too great for words.

I'm here to clean my eyes after watching the Matrix Resurrections
The machines don't seem to realise that it's impossible to defeat Neo within matrix because while agents are restricted to following the rules of their world Neo can simply choose what rules do and don't apply to him.
Oracle Smith sure beat him down in revolutions lol
@@Djuane Yeah because he'd become a virus which overtook the Matrix so similar to Neo he was no longer forced to play by that worlds rules
@@Djuane Neo technically was a bit stronger and made Smith scared asf cause he kept getting back up. He said stay away from me. It’s a trick!

"Upgrades." Then they go down after a few kicks.
shoudve been “ updates”
Honestly, I always thought he was referring to himself when he said that lol
I always thought that after he found out they were upgraded he simply started trying and upped his own power into each attack that way they still go down easy
Yeah, i really would have enjoyed a harder fight keeping agents still a menacing threat, especially three of them. Neo can still be very superior, but the machine threat should still be a permanent force of danger. I also believe the appearance of Smith so early, encountering his copy, was way too soon too, and imho, unneccesary. The earpiece delivery should have been done by some unknown 'messenger' too. It would have been more powerful if Smith did appear as an actual 'surprise', well, atleast to us. I love the movies, and i understand that the Wachowski's were relatively 'inexperienced' still, but there was so much potential lost. At some points, it looked like a parody, made to please extreme nerds and fans's fantasies, instead of going in deep. Matrix '1' was so legendary that it had big shoes to fill, and i can only say it felt lacking in a bunch of areas. Still, i love the movies and i am excited for a return of the franchise.
You have to realize that this fight scene was slowed down for the viewers. They were actually fighting really fast. Like when neo was dodging bullets. Thats why when the agents hit the brick walls they sink into them.
I'm crying watching old scenes after matrix 4
This is better than the whole Resurrection.
I always thought Daniel Bernhardt looked so cool as Agent Johnson in this (lead agent in the middle). He not only looked slick as hell in that suit but he also brought a real sense of coldness and aggression to the agent role. It was great to see he and Keanu Reeves facing off again in John Wick.
He is a good actor that doesnt get enough recognition. Loved him in heroes as well (the tv series).
he has great facial expressions in this. the other agents are cold and calculating but johnson seems a bit sadistic.
He’s in John wick too.
@@fingerXL he in gonna be in matrix 4
He’s come a long way from Future War. Everyone has to start somewhere, and he’s actually a pretty good casting choice as the lead Agent replacement.
Anyone else rewatching clips from the trilogy after how god afwul resurrections was?
I had to watch this to "set myself free from resurrections"
Lol 😂
Me too.
I always want this fight to be 90 seconds longer just to listen to more of Rob Dougan's beats and watch more incredible choreography!
The way neo just casually leans back to avoid the first kick is brilliant, them agents to neo are nothing
Agent brought out his A1 combo. And it was blocked effortlessly
There was something about Neo in this one where his Matrix persona became calm and zen. He was able to use his powers without stressing about it. The new one, you could see he lost that. Everything took effort and he constantly looked stressed out.
@@holidayinn4293 That's very true dude. Honestly, I think they waited way too long to make a 4th movie
Agreed, even his outfit. He looks like an anime hero with the trench coat and harnesses in the 1st one, in Reloaded and Revolutions he has more of a martial arts master robe thing going on. It's a great representation of how he's matured, how his movements are much smoother than in the 1st movie.
Dang Trinity has hard time fighting one agent while neo destroy them all
Agent Johnson, the main Agent in this movie, was just confirmed to be in Matrix 4. In my opinion he's even cooler than Smith! "...He's still only human".
Well the agents are still alive and exist in the matrix just not Smith
I agree, love Agent Johnson! He has a good "mean face" but always seems to play it cool. I love that the actor returned as nemesis for Keanu Reeves in John Wick! I watched the film several times before I realised it was him, the head of Viggo's security. Just like he is head of security in the Matrix I suppose.
Daniel Brendhart is awesome. Very underrated action star.
@@GarretsShadow watched blood sport 2 with him long ago, also as a kid i watched Nightman :D thats another agent :D
It's fun knowing now that agents are aging within the Matrix same as mere humans.
Neo: "Hmm, upgrades." Don Davis & Junkie XL: "WE GONNA MAKE THE THEATER INTO A DANCEFLOOR."
*Juno Reactor, actually.
It’s always fascinating seeing how they fight. Great choreography. Also Smith duplicating himself really showed that he was more of a virus to the Matrix rather than a program made by it
This scene alone beats all of Resurrections
"Still their strength and their speed is based in a world that is built on rules. Because of that they can never be as fast or as strong as you can be."
The hits are soft and poetic, this whole scene is like a demonstration that Neo deals with Agents for breakfast. In the grand scheme of the universe that's been established at this point.. this is a brilliant moment.
The contrast is between this and the “unplugged” altered Matrix in the final fight between Neo and the reprogrammed Agent Smith, with so few rules
Probably better than Tasty Wheat for breakfast. Lol.
This 3 min scene is better than Ressurections.
This scene is better the entire matrix 4 movie
I am after the matrix 4 trailer
