My first kit was an HPI back in 1999 when I was in middle school
Those HPI Nitro's were great. I didn't have a super nitro. About 7 or 8 of us used to set up cone's in the walmart parking lot and drove the reg nitro rs4's around. After a while we had a crowd watch. So many nice bodies too.
Awesome video on the WR8! I just picked mine up a few days ago and 100% agree that it's so much fun and the driving dynamics are spot on for a rally car! I really appreciated the heads up on the pinion set screw. I immediately took mine off and added some Loctite to the threads before running it for the first time. The set screw did already have some blue thread locker on it, but I'm glad I added some more because this thing pulls HARD!
Good to see the WR8 coming back. I had both the Nitro Abu Dhabi and the Flux Ken Block. It's a great platform. These things are tanks. It's the same platform as the Bullet. I got rid of them when parts ran out in the USA but I know where they are at and could probably buy them back if parts support ever returns.
Great video, appreciate you taking the time to put it together. I just pre-ordered the nitro version, parts has me a bit concerned as well, but the hobby shop said they can still order stuff in and hpi is releasing more and more. So why not, always loved their products. I'm also looking into the flux version too haha. Can't wait to break it in.

Man that thing looks scale even driving around such a cool car I may get one. Was my favourite rally car of all time since late 90’s when I started watching WRC. I’d be happy with it on a shelf in the garage as I would driving it around
When I got the Savage Flux HP 6S in 2008 it was completely bonkers.. Unlike anything I had ever seen in an RC. Enough power to do standing double backflips.

We had an 8th scale on road class that we ran in a hobby town parking lot. I started with a lowered slash running a kyosho body. Just a super fun class.
Got mine right here on my desk. Sold my original wr8 years ago and regretted tf outta selling it. This thing is a rerelease dream come true!!

I used to have a Nitro RS4 3 Evo, RS4 Sport 3, and a Blitz. Sold them over the years but I still have my original Nitro MT which sits on a shelf because I cherish it too much lol

I had the Quantum+ Flux, and it was amazingly stable for being a 1/10 monster truck, it never wheelied, but always had a ton of power delivery, and you could turn it quickly, it was so stable. loved it.

I’ve been wanting a Rally car for a while. I even thought about converting my Arrma TLR Typhon into a Rally car. Now that I’ve seen this, my TLR Typhon will remain a Buggy, and I’ll be adding this HPI to my collection. I’m a big WRX/STI fanboy too, so this Body is perfect for me! I had one it was the Ken block one I believe and it was a blast especially when there was like a 1 inch of snow on the roads what a drift machine

It's smaller than the Traxxas Rally due to the Traxxas being based off of a short course platform not a car platform.

So awesome to see some HPI cars making a comeback... i hope the brand does decently well , and gets some good promotion and advertizing, as well as a good US distributor network... One thing I am really excited for is some HPI bodies, like a Datsun 510 for a Tamiya M chassis(better yet a rerelease of the HPI Cup Racer kits) ... some of their other licensed bodies are also awesome, so I'd love to get a couple for 1/10 onroad cars... The 1/16 grub screw on the pinion almost sounds to me like they may have gotten their pinions from Robinson? Thats the only ones Ive needed an SAE driver for in quite some time... What did you think of the ground clearance and suspension, is that a big step above some of the 1/10 rally cars? Lastly, what about the chassis and how well it deals with rocks and mud and such getting into things?

This car is like a copy of the Kyosho Landmax 1:8 rally cars from the 90s early 00s. I have one from mid 90s and I’ve converted it to brushless and it is the funniest car I have! Brutal 4wd rally beast! I bought another one and use as a nitro 😁

@@kaptkronik135 I started in RC in 5th scale gas on and off-road racing at age 15, and now just for fun My favourite of all my eight 5th gas are my two Kraken-RC vehicles one truck and one buggy with Taylor racing GT50cc engines and my FID Dragon Hammer with an OBR racing 34cc engine because they have solid rear axles so you have to drive them like the UDR and SBR unlike my others where point and squirt works best even when racing, the straight rear axle vehicles are more fun harder to drive but rewarding, My smallest RC vehicle is my very old HPI Savage 21 I also have the VENOM VMX450 motoX/Supermoto 1/4scale bike and one on road ZD Racing EX07 never had anything smaller than 1/7th scale.

Integy are based in California. They do great upgrades, try them direct or on eBay. Unfortunately they don’t have an upgrade for the front bumper which the body post breaks when you crash the front hard. Replacement bumpers are easy to find though. If someone made 1/8 bodies with a 300mm wheelbase, they would sell like hotcakes 🥞 Happy tearing it up!

I picked up a WR8 last month it might be the most fun out of all my cars. My only issues is HPI doesn't have tires or extra bodies available. Hopefully soon!

Raise the body post so when u brake it doesn’t rub the floor. Also good for doing jumps. Use bike small ramps n it jumps beautifully like a real rally car. Wish they had more aggressive tires for off road tho.
My local hobby shop had a couple, one Electric and one nitro.... electric sold really fast and the nitro was pretty quick also...but wish I would have got electric...👍👍

Hey Mark, Great Dirt video 👌🏼 i have just got mine & looking forward to running it asap, I had the early version WR8 Ken Block Flux a few years back & that too was fantastic ! I still have a new sealed WR8 Fiesta Ken Block Body Shell & i will try it to see if it fits the new Subaru, my guess is it should as it is the same 1/8 chassis, might just be a body poly adjustment. Will let you know Mark asap 👍🏼

Mark, what do you honestly think of the Traxxas Bandit VXL as far as a low cost, very fast, trouble free 1/10 scale 2wd vehicle? I've had RC's since the RC10, back in 1992, up to the X-Maxx and I'm loving this buggy! For ripping in a small area, quick and easy, get through and put buggy up, storage charge the lipo, and I'm done!
I had the Ken Block body in 2019 but the same RC and I've never owned a better RC in my life... I didn't keep it cuz I could not count on HPI for part support and as good as they are they're digging a grave with their prices. I can tell you this though I've only seen fresh squeezed RC and myself run the wr8 at practically full speed and do a 360 without it flipping! The thing is awesome and now you know 👊

Great video Mark! Rally cars are cool, I wish I had one, but RC rally’s are uncommon, and budget (under $200) ones are near nonexistent! 3:28 chasing and outrunning those pesky 1:1 scale cars is fun, but watch out for those treacherous rear tires, they’ll squash your rig flat! Also, how come you run long wires on your battery adapters, I thought it was best to run adapter wires are short as possible, in fact you can buy adapters that don’t even have any wires, the two connectors are just soldered and heat shrinked together. Is it for ease of soldering? It can’t be to extend the battery/ESC wire length, as there’s already plenty of wire, it’s not like you’re gonna be pulling wires taunt to plug it in. Plus, shorter wires lowers resistance marginally and reduces the chance if the wires getting caught on stuff.
Keeping wires short is more for racing, reduces resistance and improves performance (marginally). On a basher, not a concern, except maybe to make sure it doesn't snag on anything 👍
@@jerryvolpini7987 Yeah, I was gonna say that too, but I forgot! It seems there’s no advantage to using longer wires except maybe slightly easier soldering. And it’s not like Mark couldn’t have easily cut the wires down, maybe he just didn’t care? But he’s a racer....
A few inches of the appropriate gauge wire basically won’t affect anything. The little bit of weight probably matters more. Measure the resistance of 1in of wire, then measure the resistance of 3in.
@@burprobrox9134 I know, I was just being nitpicky TBH! Yeah, it's like maybe 5g lighter, if I had the choice, I'd run matching, appropriate gauge wires on my ESC and LiPos, just to have consistency, and so I can rest easy knowing the weakest/not adequate link in the electric system isn't the wires coming from the ESC or the adapter wires. And also because if I had the choice to have matching gauge wires and had non-matching gauges, that would kinda bother me as I'm a perfectionist lol! I can't do that test as I don't have any of the tools to do so, but I get your point. Just though it was kinda strange that Mark ran longer wires on his adapter, especially since he is a pro racer, and I've heard that racers will go to a fair bit of trouble to get the max power, handling, effeciency, ect. out of their machines.
