  • Hullo! Thanks for joining us here! As it turned out / right after we finished this recording - Kia did confirm that there is a change in the tune for the engines to improve drivability. I think it was a much needed fix. Also - happy to see all-wheel disc brakes on the Sonet too - but didn’t really feel a difference in the conditions we were in. Need some proper hard braking for that to kick in. Look forward to testing that out.

  • I'd really appreciate it if you could make a MotorInc Spark episode about road safety and car safety. I agree with your thoughts on focusing more on preventing accidents in the first place by driving well. For me, I don't consider crash test rating to help me when I mess up but more when some random drunk driver from the opposite lane crashes into you even when you drove sensibly and with good awareness.

    @muthukumaranc@muthukumaranc3 ай бұрын
    • That is true. However most people seem to consider that responsibility of being safe is transferred to the car and hence safer car makes you safe. Which is not the case.

    • In case of an accident where the car driver has very little to do yes the cars build and all of that is important. However most accidents could be avoided by the not so “common” sense! I mean landslide, cars jumping from the other side and on your car must be less than 1% Totally seconded, an episode on “HOW TO DRIVE also ROAD MANNERS” would add so much value! Not just drivers and bikers but also pedestrians at times!!! Lookkng forward to it

  • Hey Shumi, Karthik, fan from UK here. Moving back home to Bengaluru after 14 long years and researching automatic cars left, right and centre! I enjoyed this episode for everything that it had especially the last part with safety discussions and Karthik's agro mode! On the Sonet ADAS, i wonder if there is a known answer to whether the intensity of steering input to lane keep assist could be changed in driver settings? I have thr camera based level 1 on my A4 here and that lets me choose the input level! PS: Shumi, for what it is worth, I think you taking up some of the air-time in Karthis's points is very nice and pleasant to see. Keeps this light hearted and enjoyable rather than make it feel like a serious discussion about someone's funeral arrangements. Great job guys🎉

  • Just like Shumi, even I have so many questions! 1. Why do manufacturers insist on touch controls? Looking at you, Tata! Why do I have to take my eyes off the road to change the AC? 2. What is with gloss panels inside which scratch if I breathe on them? Who thought this was a good idea? 3. How hard is it to improve the sound damping? Just add more foam. 4. Why are touch screens so shitty? 5. Why do manufacturers not offer the top variant without sunroofs? Who needs a sun roof in India?

  • Dear MotorInc team, Never have I laughed so much the way I did for this one. The cheesy banter between these two were cracking me up all the time and though the interruptions to Karti's smooth delivery could be irritating at times, it is what makes the episodes great, so Shumi, poke as much as you can :P. Shumi has mischief written in his face all over, and he is always up to poke Karti whenever chance arises, lol. That being said, great content as always, keep it going. I must say that 2024 Kia Sonet is what I feel as a perfectly rounded car, much better than the new Creta for that matter. The amount of features at its disposal, armed with the plethora of engine + gearbox combos makes it one among the perfect cars to upgrade to. Had the 1.5L + 6MT been there last year, I would have definitely overlooked every con that I have wrote below and bought that as I feel a diesel is best experienced with a manual. Kia Sonet was a close contender for me during my car shopping last year. It was a well rounded car and ticked all the right boxes(almost). The showroom experience was pretty good and consistent. I test drove all the available combos(excluding the baseline one), and here is what I felt, which resonated Karti's thoughts pretty much : Kia Sonet(1.0T + 6IMT) :- Felt lethargic thanks to the turbo lag, followed by a jackhammer kick once the turbo spools up. The iMT was much better than the horrendous AMTs. Kia Sonet(1.0T + 7DCT) :- Felt like magic at work. Shifts were almost imperceptible and worked like a charm. Could only imagine how the DSG's performed, which definitely would be on another level. The ideal engine + gearbox combo in the petrol guise. Kia Sonet(1.5L + 6AT) :- The most reliable combo, I feel. However I couldn't connect with the car much, and the car felt slightly sluggish, though I wouldn't doubt its long distance mile munching capabilities one bit. Kia Sonet(1.5L + 6iMT) :- Had fun driving this variant. Felt like the best of both worlds on offer. The raw feel of a manual turbo-diesel car without the headache of clutching / FE worries. Reasons why I chose not to go for this car : 1. Our relatively low monthly mileage target(could have overlooked this bit still, if not for points 2&3) 2. DEF / DPF related concerns that could affect peace of mind. 3. Future of diesel vehicles thanks to the changing government norms. 4. The rear seat was not a very comfortable place to be in thanks to the premium space on offer.(Could have overlooked still) 5. The stiff ride quality. This was a strict no for me. Especially when you go over the unscientific speed breakers in our cities, you will be reminded very sharply of the same, especially when you are in the rear seats. Cheers, NI

  • I think the camera feature would be useful for the mall parking as they have pillers marked with number where we park the cars and it the camera could capture that then while returning home from the mall when you enter the parking area, you need not have to remember where exactly you have parked the car. The photo would capture the piller number around the vehicle and you can reach that exact spot.

But after listening to Karthikeya's statement about his Ignis, I realised i've always driven a Maruti myself, I consider myself to be a half sensible driver and I've never been in a crash or an accident. And I also love driving my maruti which probably was never crash tested! I agree that there should be certain features pertaining to safety and collision avoidance as standard, but this mindless reliance of crash ratings, as you so rightly pointed out, is stupid. Shumi's hard reasoning on cars and their features is not just hilarious but also brings important things into perspective. - Kartik's experience and hang of cars speaks for itself with the change in engine tune confirmed by Kia. - Ignis is a keeper. - Kartik, what you described was classic T2 traffic which I experience everyday. - Star ratings, is just noise as the important info is never talked about. All the info is available on BNCAP's website and I doubt if anyone bothered to read the AIS 197 specs available in the resources section. MotorInc, we need a separate episode on this and Shumi's comments are bang on point. Folks have to understand that the crash test protocols cannot be described in a short or a reel, needs way more patience and reasoning.

One of the biggest marketing pull offs is the safety rating systems. Safety is important and so is to ensure that proper driving schools exist and licence is not given out to anyone who registers for it.

    • Have a doubt here - It definitely would make a lot of difference if people got more careful while driving and thought about their actions on the road before flaunting safety ratings on the road But till that happens we do have a lot of unsafe drivers on the road and is that not exactly a reason why you need a safer car for yourself? Because my safety on the road is not just a consequence of my driving but of others as well, having a better safety rated car would be safer for me or is there not a big difference between 1 star and 5 star rated cars(genuinely curious here)?

It is true in almost all showrooms that they don't have the complete info on the changes that was made in this facelift. Just not sure on mileage figures for Sonet dct as it largely depends on the way we drive (my opinion). Still having second thoughts on not picking Baleno AMT just for the mileage as I also wanted an SUVish car with higher stance. And that my travel requirement is 80:20 ( Highway/city). Wanted to understand what will I get if I choose Sonet over Baleno (leaving aside the okish mileage).

    • The Baleno will have the better fuel efficiency no matter what. It is very impressive on this front. Do check out our View vid on the Glanza if you haven’t already. If you highway usage is higher then the FE gap will be much narrower. And for the lavish experience - the Sonet is right on top. Hope that helps!

It is a very capable bike, can maneuver in the bumper to bumper traffic, can be ridden hard, doesn't stall at slow speeds and loves to revv as wel. Vstrom is calm and capable. How's the Duke 250 in comparison?

  • Hello! I really admire your style of reviewing cars. It feels genuine and organic! Most other "motoring journalists" just read the marketing material provided, without focusing on how that product is really going to add value. (The ADAS rant is totally justified). Last year I ended up buying Nexon petrol AMT, after test driving Sonet DCT and Venue DCT. The cons I felt for the last gen Sonet was the suspension, which was too stiff for my liking and the DCT gearbox was too jittery in the city traffic conditions. But it appears like Kia has listened to it's customers and made the necessary changes. Sonet facelift feels like it will be the best car in it's segment. Would you please share your thoughts or make a video on after sales service experience of the cars? The servicing experience? I think this can be BIG contributing factor when you are making a new purchase. Thank you so much!

    • @@motorinc My experience with Tata Nexon. Booking the car & delivery: Before finalising Tata NEXON, I had also taken a test drive of Kia SONET and Hyundai venue.after considering many aspects of all the cars and my wife finalised to book NEXON automatic. I booked the car with Sridha Motors in Chakan near Pune. I would like to give a huge shoutout to Abhishek Hingmire who helped us in getting the car in under 60 days of booking while others had to wait for over a period of six months because of various reasons. Abhishek and everyone at the showroom was very helpful and had a great amount of knowledge about the car. They answered all my questions, and believe me there were many:) The is just one thing. I would like to mention here as I’m guessing not many people would know about this. As Tata motors factory is right outside the city of Pune. Most vehicles are driven down to the showrooms and are not delivered on a truck. Therefore, one might find the odometer in the range of mid 60s, and Not under 20 km, as it is usually is. And this was informed to me at the PDI by the showroom associate, so they were very transparent about this. The Car: The Nexon which I have Is a 2023 manufactured model (Bharat 6 Phase 2 compliant engine). The variant is called Nexon XZA plus LUX, which basically means it’s a petrol car with an AMT gearbox, and is without a sunroof. Personally, I am very happy with the car. After driving, the second generation Honda, Jazz, 209 MM of ground clearance is a welcome change. The AMT gearbox, in my opinion, felt better than the DCT of Hyundai, which was very jittery and slightly unpredictable in city driving conditions. I got the delivery of the car in the March of 2023, and I have already completed Little more than 10,000 km of driving. I just have to complaints with the gearbox. 1. Sometimes the car does not shift from first year till it process 30 km/h which is way too high. But if you start driving in manual/sports mode, it will prompt you to up at around 18 km/h. 2. There is a very noticeable lag between you putting the car in particular gear, and the car actually engaging that gear. This sometimes can be very annoying. But let me be very honest. This happens only 3 out of 10 times. Servicing experience: Oh dear! Where do I start? I have got my car. Serviced two times till now both the times I had gone to a different Tata servicing centre in the hope of getting a better service. Talking about my first experience which happened at Katraj in Pune was disappointing because they took took six hours for the things that could have been done in around 90 minutes. And there were just three cars and the entire service station. The second service station was of Tata Dev motors in Pune which is actually a very nice service station with great reviews and great facility. The problem there is that the staff is tremendously overworked. At this time, I was facing some issues with the Glass not working properly at the Driver side window. The issue was resorted immediately and the parts which were changed were under warranty so there were no charges. I just felt that 1. The staff at the servicing station needs to be trained, more about handling the extra workload they will be getting, as Tata is selling so many cars! It just felt that the people there are trying to do everything they can to help the customers but are failing at it because of lack of training and experience. 2. This I think is more to do about the technical side of the thing. In my car, if the car is due for servicing, every time you turn on the ignition, you will receive a notification on the mobile app. After the servicing, they were not able to reset the system in the car to Stop me getting the notification. only to get this issue resolved. I had to wait for additional 45 minutes as there were two technicians working on the issue. This worry as all the next generations of Cars are rely more on technology. I hope that my experience reaches Tata motors through you, and people there are listening to their customers to make their product and services even better. ( I believe in constructive criticism and all this feedback was shared at the service station manager) In closing, I would like to say that for me personally, Nexon is a great product (I am talking specifically about pre-facelift model of 2024). And I hope that Tata motors will have a meaningful conversation with their dealers to improve their service. I hope that my experience will help you in educating more and more people. Thank you so much! P.S. Please consider converting the intro music of this video into a complete track and launching it! It’s a banger😎🤟🏼

I think instead of worrying aboht how many starts it got in safety each drivers should think about what kind of stars they would get in safety rating if they were to rate themselves and am damn sure majority will get zero. Might not mean much but their zero rating means they are putting other people on road in danger.

  • Totally agree with you guys about the safety. While the stars are important, what is way more important is our driving. It is not just about practice like Shumi said, driving is like gym sometimes. You have your off day and your good days. If you feel you are not at your best while driving, you need stop, then make sure you put conscious effort on being attentive and then calibrate your driving accordingly. You also get better each day you drive (just like you get better in lifting weights). Eg., If I feel like I am not in the right mood for Spots mode or even the ride mode on the Ather. I will stick to eco on that day. We Indians have to agree to the fact that collectively we are not good drivers (we have a big ego and we don't accept that) and then start learning.

  • 53:09 Discipline and driving sense is the most important safety aspect everyone forgets and blabbers about crash test ratings. We have a WagonR. Yes its body is "Tin ka dabba" and some stupid crashed into our car and there were few dents out there. But I love that car for its ease of driving as a beginner. And one needs to have cautious behaviour while on the road. I feel frustrated when someone cuts me while I'm driving or suddenly comes ahead of me without any indication. This is called indiscipline which unfortunately our traffic system is unable to deal with. Also what Karthik told is true. People having a call while driving/riding just distracts their attention span and mishaps happen instantaneously. I think someone needs to address all these issues and teach us how to drive/ride well on a road and only then after people can rant about crash test ratings. Also people showoff saying their car is a 5 star rated or their helmet has ece certification so they're invincible but they forget the most important aspect that keeps them in shape that is locking helmet strap or wearing seat belt. Unless they wear them, there's no 5 star safety or an ece certification that saves you after a crash. People need to learn these little things to understand how safety works in the first place.

So just because you are driving properly and follow the rules doesn't mean someone else in the road will and it also doesn't mean that he cannot come and crash into you. So its better to have safety features and have safer car as an insurance.

But there exists a gap of 5 Lakh Rupees between the entry point of the Sonet and the 1-litre Turbo variant between which is the NA 5MT variant at a much more approachable price.
