In this Jazz Drummer Q-Tip of the Week drum set video, I am sharing a vlog of my incredible tour of this drum factory of Tama drums. I had a great time learning more about how Tama drums are made and the meticulous care they take with each and every drum. My incredible tour of this drum factory was fantastic and I think drummers will enjoy this VLOG of my incredible tour of this drum factory.

Watching live from Japan 🇯🇵 🇺🇬🙏💕
That solo. Wow. I’m not even exaggerating when I say that’s the sweetest thing I’ve heard in a long time. The drums sound awesome, but it takes a great drummer to make them sing. Very inspirational. I enjoyed that immensely. Love this channel I’m learning quite a lot. 👍👍 and btw I gotta give a shout out to those beautiful cymbals. What a great sound. Just gorgeous.
Wow, thank you! I appreciate you super kind words. Glad you’re enjoying the channel so much Hans Soloist! (I usually create nicknames for commenters but you don’t need one. Hilarious handle name!)
Thanks for the Inspiration. I'm just an ol' wht. Funker Age 73. 60 years of GIGS. All levels. My first band with my Twin on Organ was a SOUL BAND. We were playing HighSchool Proms before we were in High School. We had an amazing singer: Hosie B. Pitchford. We were 14 and he was 24. A match made in Heaven. Our other "funk brothers" had a band, Project Soul. We would sit in with them and they would rent our Hammond B-3 for their bigger shows around The San Francisco Bay Area. That band became known as CON FUNK SHUN. Felton Pilate was only 15 years old in my high school drum line when he asked me: Dan, How do I get in a band?? We introduced him to our famed musical brothers in Project Soul and the rest is History. We still talk on the phone. Felton also produced Bobby Brown and ConFunkShun is still touring. God Bless you, My Musical Brother
I didn't want the tour to end! Thanks for taking us there Quincy, and arigatō Tama for sharing the processes behind your craft
Glad you enjoyed it Lucas! It was really fine day that I also didn’t want to end.
Spanish Ned here. Thank you so much Quincy for the fantastic tour around the Tama drum factory of miracles. The sound of the kit you are playing is unbelievable and the finish is gorgeous and deep. A full spectrum of sound, clear as a bell at all levels of touch and the whole kit integrates so sweetly. Lovely people there too. I would love to hear those drums live and / or in the studio some day.
Glad you enjoyed it Nutty Ned (new nickname for you:)! Yeah those drums were delicious to play! Will be my next kit when I’m ready👍🏾
I love the vintage Superstars. I bought a kit in 1983 and still own it. The Tom’s are thunderous. Mics love them.
Oh yeah, the Superstars are great classic drums!
I have a 1st Gen Starclassic Performer (Mahogany/Birch) and I love it. Tama drums have this distinctive sound. You can hear it no matter what the shell material is. Listen to Cobham, Phillips, Peart, Copeland. There's a common sound even though they all tune their drums differently and use different heads. And the drums are beautiful to look at.
How cool that you have the first Starclassic Performer kit. And you are absolutely right. Tama drums no matter the line has always had a distinctive sound. Thanks Danny!
Lars Ulrich, Neil Peart and Charlie Benante opened my teenage eyes to Tama. Stayed after I really understood what a drum is.
Awesome! They’re really great drums.
For the man who says he’s not a gearhead I expect this will be fabulous. Cheers🎉
Ha! You know me all to well Chucky🤣. I definitely enjoyed learning more about how these “tubs of wood” are made.
Hello Quincy, thank you for taking us on this very interesting factory tour. And I would also like to thank TAMA for their hospitality. I was really impressed with the precision and workmanship of the drum sets. I used to play the first version of the Starclassic drums, made in birch wood, beautifully finished and sounded great. Greetings Erwin and looking forward to the next video.
Glad you enjoyed it so much brother Erwin! That’s cool that you used to play that early Starclassic kit.
hello Quincy thank s so lot for that ! you were lucky to see that
I was definitely fortunate to have been to the factory.
I own TAMA Star classic set. Loving it

Sweet set up and sounds. Thank you and the crew at TAMA for that really nice insider’s tour.
Glad you enjoyed it Luis!
Quality!👍🏻🇬🇧
Thanks for watching!
I bought my first new drum set in 1976. It was a Tama Imperial Star Saturn 12 + 1 set in the satin white finish. The concert toms were 9-ply with 3 plies of fiberglass. I sold the set in '86, but after seeing this video, would like to get them back and restore them. Great video and inspiring. 👍
That’s awesome that you had one of the early Tama kits. I bet they sounded really good!
GREAT VIDEO !
Thanks Ms. Rita! Always good to hear from you:)
Fabulous Drumming and Exquisite Craftsmanship!
Thank you kindly!
Man…this is beautiful! What a great company!
Glad you enjoyed it Drake! It was a lot of fun for sure.
This process is amazing to see. It must have been unbelievable to witness first hand. The sheets of plywood blew my mind. So strong but so flexible at the same time. I’m looking forward to watching the new video. I see it just dropped today. Back in the 80s I remember all the rehearsal studios had Tama drums and it was all metal bands playing them. However, now I see more variety of drummers using Tama. I saw Rayford Griffin with Jean-Luc Ponty just before the Covid lockdown and his Tama drums sounded phenomenal. FP
Yeah Frankie. It was pretty unbelievable to witness their amazing craftsmanship and precision first hand. Look out, Tama Drums are coming:)
Hey Quincy, I really enjoyed this video and your others as well. Great playing! You made those drums sing.
Glad you enjoyed it and I appreciate the kind words Jeff!
My first kit was an Imperial Star in 1984-85 I got it because that was the one Neil Peart used! 😂
I’d say that he’s a pretty good reason to get a drum kit :-)
Yeee got the solid mahogany star snare, and I love it.
I’m sure you love that thing! Love Tama’s snare drums.
I got to know you from Dr.Capital’s channel and now I understand why you can speak Japanese 😊 Hope you had a good time in Japan.
Thanks for coming over to my channel and watching the video my man!
日本語、めっちゃ上手ですね!
まだまだです。ビデオを見て貰えてありがとうございます Chucky:)
These drums are beautiful, such finish work. Did you get to see how they added reinforcement rings to some of the shells? Also, how many shells do they complete each day or month, and how many square feet or meters is this building? It's impressive that the floor in the building is clean and the sound is fairly quiet, especially with the typical sawdust issues working with wood.
Thanks for the tour!
Great questions…that I didn’t ask! You should have been on the tour with me🤣🤣.
@@drumqtips Well, I just enjoy production facilities, how they are organized and operated according to functional needs. It's kind of like an orchestra or playing a kit, everything has a purpose.
I would have said. ,,, is the kit you,re going to give me??? Looks very interesting.
Haha! Next time I’ll definitely ask them that👍🏾
i think their first endorsee was steward copeland if im right circa 1975'76
Oh wow! I didn't know that Marco. Thanks for sharing that nugget:)
I love my starclassic walnut/birch kit but it was built in China
Yeah those definitely aren’t built at this factory unfortunately but I know they have the same standards at the China factory.
Bought a Tama star bubinga snare straight from Tama factory Japan. Very disappointed with the product. The inlay where the air hole had a crack inside lacquer finish. I have no idea how it passed inspection I tried to contact Tama but they don’t receive email or any feed back from customer…
Oh man. Sorry to hear that!
