More like the middle of one. All of their films always have a lack of a beginning and a lack of an end
The death of her parents, to a home where she was abused, to living on her own, to a system that failed her and would fail her again. Clearly that is what went through the mind of the social worker who allowed her to leave quietly.....unnoticed. A brilliant and beautifully done film. In my "happy ending mind" the social worker takes her under his wing and adopts her.
...to be continued
Sometimes there are no happy endings

Did anyone notice that she carries her parents with her everywhere she went even when she was angry at them for leaving I guess. They spiritually provided for and protected her. To all the people saying "this is so sad I wish I could adopt her right now" you could always you know go to your local adoption center and door many kids just like her. Stop saying I wish and start saying I can take action and make a change. Have a great day everyone
Luis Lizardo exacly
YES. Channel passion into action instead of uselessly commenting with no plan of actually changing anything.
so true
Luis Lizardo i would adopt her because even in my family of 5 middle class income we would make a better way for her better than the streets. I dont adopt because I havr no desire to but if I saw a child on the street they're coming home with me PERIOD my sister get them cleaned up I'll cook a fine meal and make a warm bed to rest in. No child deserves to live on the street
Another option is to become a foster parent. You don't need to be married, or have a lot of money, just caring & willing to give a child a safe place, filled with patience, love, & emotional support. Sometimes children end up in childrens services because their parents pass away, like this precious girl. She could initially be fostered, then later the foster parent(s) can either become the guardian or adoptive parent(s). Personally, I became a foster parent of four siblings. After three & a half years, I was awarded guardianship of them. So, you CAN be the change you want to see in the world. They are all our children, & children are our future.
Ok but can we acknowledge how there’s still so many kids who would rather go homeless than be stuck in the foster system :(

No child should be alone like this. She cannot protect herself from predators let alone the elements. We have to do better by our children. And when they get 18 we still cannot just let them go. They need support.

+Brett Berard Okay, I'd like to see you try and live the way she does in the film, without electronics, family, or even a house.
Brett Berard but she did grow up with electronics and a family but they died
capacity doubt she had much more than a TV
Why would you 'doubt she had much more than a TV'? First of all, this is just a short film, so it isn't real. Secondly, this film is trying to show that her life was normal like any other child until her parents died so she ran away because she didn't want to end up in foster care. Even if she only "just had a TV" (which I'm not sure why you'd come to that conclusion), she still had a family, electricity, and a home, and she had to give that all up and live on the streets without any parents. Yeah, she may have someone to give her food now and then, but she still has to find places to sleep, protect herself from anything bad (storms, bad weather, etc.), and take care of herself. Those are survival skills.
capacity Jeez calm the f*ck down.

This made me so sad
pooh sandrea if this was real I’ll be so sad
I find it incredibly weird and interesting symbolism that she finds comfort and safety around and between white people, and runs from the black man. It was just an interesting juxtaposition that jumped out at me. 1. The dude with the cigarette which was hella weird as a scene. To see this innocent girl transform into a downtrodden middle aged woman before our eyes. I thought he would take advantage of her. 2. The man at the beach who stopped the black guy from grabbing her. 3. How she stood between the safe loving arms of white folks holding hands. 4. How she ravished the black stick figures in the sand. And then the disgusting way that case worker (black woman) was treating her situation as though she was a throw away. It's almost like a message that we as a community continue to fail our own people, particularly our youths. I wonder what the writers would have to say about this or if it's been spoken about in some film fest. She is such a precious little girl. Great actress.
She doesn't feel safe around black people at all... I wonder why?....

I adopted a child who was on the streets like this, homeless at a young age just like her. It was a very tough path for us both. Now she is an adult and doing well because I refused to let her go and give up. It was not for lack of trying on her part either! LOL I saw something in her she did not see in herself, 'not' giving up was the hardest thing I have ever done. She wanted me to give up back then and proudly taunted that she would make my like a living hell until I did, which she did. She doesn't know me very well. I don’t have it in my to give up so I held on. She was a tough little street girl taking care of a brother and sister in diapers at the time. She did it and came out of it in the end. She is in her 20's now.

With her survival instinct, respect for life, (the sequence that she picks up the star fish and gives it back to the sea), placing value on what was given to her, she pays back for the food. Knowing the importance of earning a living at that age!!! All that plus so much more makes me think that she is fit to manage social services than those who stick to the rusted books, thinking they are doing their jobs. This dramatization, is a living example of all the kids who have fallen through the cracks of a system that is supposed to protect them. What a shame!!!

Lovely end. The social services guy realises that he needs to earn her trust. Her leaving on stick figure on his desk is a start. Don't care about the damn system. Would risk it all and take her into my home, homeschool her and send her off to college when she is 18. Looking the other way and letting a 7 year old into the street is not kindness, its another sort of evil. She seems so mature, but she shouldn't have to - she is a baby.
