I mean this in the most positive way: if Justin Timberlake put out this exact same album, it would be massive. MASSIVE. My theory on this album in general is that it’s Tyler showing off. Like a “This is what I did during the pandemic” thing. He’s clearly mastered Pop songcraft, and because he knows how to read a room, he knew another Trench-like saga might be a tad heavy under the circumstances. So almost with his tongue firmly planted in cheek, he wrote a sunny-sounding Pop project that could hold its own with anything the genre’s superstars are creating. And if you’ve been a TØP fan for a minute, Scaled and Icy doesn’t feel like a departure. I mean, one of Tyler’s calling cards has always been his ability to make tough-to-tackle topics more lyrically accessible by cloaking them with catchy, EDM-ish or happy sounding tunes - Migraine, Guns For Hands, Glowing Eyes, et al. ... And Tyler has already hinted that they’ll be busting out another dark-ass bad boy of an album in the not-too-distant future. In the meantime, my advice to anyone already comparing S&I unfavorable to Trench, Blurryface or even Vessel is this: Don’t!! Relax. They’re e etc

I find that the voicemail sample in this particular song illustrates the effort of staying connected with the people you love. Contrast that with something like Post Malone's "Enemies", a song composed of 100% clichés.

I loved Twenty One Pilots when they came out with hits like "Stressed Out", "Ride", and "Heathens" which I love to this day. At first, I assumed that they stopped making hits. Turns out, I've been listening to their other hits on the radio without knowing it (Saturday, Chlorine, The Hype, etc.) Great job to this band for constantly trying new things and being successful at it.

The reason that this song sounds so different than their usual stuff is Tyler said during the live Q&A for this album that this song came to him in a dream (he was at a festival and a different band was playing this) then when he woke up he wrote down and did a quick recording so he wouldn't forget.
