  • The 1980's was the last great era in country music - John Anderson, Ricky Skaggs, Lyle Lovett, Dwight Yoakam, George Strait. First time I heard Garth Brooks and saw how successful he was with that country-pop sound, I knew it was over. Practically everybody after Brooks does country-lite. But that golden period before country-music-for-people-who-don't-like-country-music took over was great while it lasted, and those guys that came out of that era still produce some terrific stuff.

  • You know, this song was written about Ferlin Husky who, years ago, did a song called, "A Fallen Star." I met Ferlin a few years ago and went to hear him sing at The Village Barn in Bradenton, Florida. Sure enough, he drove a little van, and we fans that turned out to hear him sing were few. Ferlin was a great entertainer in his day, and John Anderson still is great!!

  • I can so identify with this song. Once upon a time, I had a couple of top ten hits. Opened for some famous country acts and was doing okay. Can' t say it wasn' t easy to open one night for an act that drew 35,000 people and then two nights later to be in a club with 9 people. Bummer. But it is part of the business. Too many things to ease the pain. The rejection. The failure. Music is a fickle lover. One night you' re up. The next night you don' t exsist. ( Keith Urban). get my point?
