  • I rescued my siamese kitten, I found at a gas station. She was left to die, tiny little thing and I couldnt go on without helping her. This was over 2 years ago. I dealt with aggression, she would out of nowhere jump on my leg while I walked or lash out of nowhere. This was going on for almost year or so. Know that toys always help, to build bond and trust, so try to put in numerous play sessions, 5 min 3/5 times a day be great :)..I see you have the cat dancer, which is one of my cats favorite toys :) Sometimes there are small body language signs you might be able to pick up on with time before they attack. You can then remove yourself from the situation or change their behavior, which I used to do with toys. So pick up their favorite toy and change the mood and aggression of the moment. It did help when I got a second cat btw and she since then never attacked my leg again. I did had a deep lash, which took a long time to heal, our attacks seem to be more play wise I think but some of them were aggressive and out of nowhere. I think I can see that your cat wants to be loved and bond with you, however doesn't seem to know how to receive affection and is confused. Its probably the result of the trauma and mistreatment in the past. Give him treats, always on your hand so that he can always smell you, give him his own time and don't force interactions, which I see you are doing already. Maybe a shirt of yours he sleeps on or something that has your scent, and yeah if possible maybe try to see how he acts towards other cats? helped in my case. Cats are sensitive and I'm sure he been through abuse, but I can see that he is trying to work with you. Thank you for loving him and giving him a home. I'm sure both of yall bonds and love for another will grow

  • Been following his journey from day one in her IG page. he is a good little guy, he just needed some help getting there. He ended up having a prior undetected ear abscess that popped and who knows if that was the cause or not, he became more gentle after as well.

  • I also have a tuxedo cat named Bruno. He was a neighborhood stray that I took in eight years ago. He was aggressive just like your Bruno and I have dozens of pictures of my bloody hands and legs to prove it :-) He would also frequently attack my legs when I was walking around or starting to leave the room. It wasn't like he was mean, it was more like he just couldn't help himself. It took me five years before I could pet him around his head and neck. I never pushed the issue of trying to pet him and let him get comfortable with being touched at his own pace. Now he's a loving, affectionate cat. You did a wonderful thing by adopting Bruno. Thank you giving him a good home and for sharing this 💜

  • If a cat scratches or bites you, wash the area as quickly as you can and disinfect it. I use lavender essential oil for minor wounds but I’ll break out the tea tree for deeper ones. My dad went to the hospital and had to be on IV antibiotics after his arm got infected from a cat bite. What is weird is he taught me since I was a kid to disinfect wounds thoroughly so he should have known better. I would have given that cat catnip everyday and that may have helped to calm his nerves down. Maybe some cbd cat treats too. I adopted a wandering barn cat who showed up in my backyard several years ago and he was a nasty guy, attacking all my other cats. I had to use my silicone oven mitts to handle him or throw a blanket over him when he was on a tear. Locked him in an attic room when I went to work. Later I would put a wicker basket on top of him and he would calm down and fall asleep like he felt safe in there. I would never have dreamt of putting my face anywhere near his teeth or claws, but now, after years of love and patience, he is the most loving and gentle cat ever. Loves kids too.

  • You should be extremely proud of yourself! I agreed to take a cat at the request of a friend of a friend who was dying of brain cancer. I had never seen him interacting with the cat, I just knew it came from a shelter like yours. It took the owner and another friend to get her into a carrier. Your cat's reaction to the new home was about the same as mine (minus the other pets) but I have been working for over 8 months to get to where you have in about a month. Thank you for your story, it gives me hope that I will, in the end, have a best feline friend for the rest of my life! 💗

He sits close to me sometimes but rarely in my lap. He too must’ve experienced trauma. I pat him only if he initiates it or I sense from his body language that it’s ok with him.

He was getting better at first, then changed back to aggressive as soon as he heard and smelled other animals. He NEEDS complete peace and quiet. Then he would be a wonderful puss.

  • Leaving a scared or aggressive cat alone is another choice that more people need to consider. If he showed you his affectionate side at the shelter all he needed was time to approach you. A lot of rescuers give them a few days or longer to acclimate on their own. By that time cats are more relaxed and hungry for attention and/or affection. We can't always make demands or force things at a pace we want. Sometimes just by speaking to them if they don't want to be touched garners the same results.

She was very easily over stimulated and got super aggressive when you touched her legs or feet. No idea why. The infection was instant, swelling and pain extreme. At the hospital I was told only one bite (for instant infection) is worse than a cats-a humans. It took 6 years before my semi-feral cat stopped biting and scarring me everytime he thinks he's being attacked in his dreams. And he always wants to sleep next to me! All my cats were "project cats", and I think it makes us closer, since we had to learn to understand each other, and work on building a relationship of trust. Their lives are better for it (now spoiled housecats) and they improve my life with their antics and cuddles. (worth the scars, tbh) Wishing you two continued progress and healing ❤

  • The moment a untrusting and aggressive (protective) animal finally gives its trust and love is an incredible emotional and euphoric moment, we had the same with our black cat. Been kn the shelter since birth, never been out, never been loved he for sure had given up. Because he was so big and aggressive he could not be with the others in the outside pen. We went there for a foster they let him an his brother out, he just sat in a corner the whole time while we were playing with his brother and sister. Just at one moment he stood up and grabbed my wifes sunglasses and ran away, she said i want him! (We came back later for the brother and sister as well ;). Back home we placed him jn a separate room for him to get used to us and the other cats but he was so aggressive to us, my wife gave him so much patience incredible, she found out she could pet him just as long he did not see your hand. That was the breakthrough moment. Now he is like a big o’malley walking around in the garden tail in the air and talking all the time saying where he is. His name is boris and we love him (them) to death

The vet advised he was positive for FIV and was very aggressive and it would be best to put him down. Of course I did not do that. I took him home, he was so mean my two cats and my very large dog were so afraid of him we would all sleep in my room with the door closed at night. It took months and maybe a year but he turned out to be the most loving cat, protector of the other animals and was a faithful family member for 12 years. Some of these abandoned, neglected or abused animals just need time to trust. They are all worth saving.

  • He's a beauty! There is a feral cat that I called Grouchy, because he was exactly like that one, but I had thought he was feral, I found out that he belonged two houses down to a lady, well, too bad, I had him TNR'd because that's what I do, and I trapped him and had him neutered. He would come to eat at my house every single day, I felt that his owner didn't feed him, but he was mean like that cat, always hiss, growl, lash out at me with his claws, and it didn't indear me to him. That has been 5 years ago and he still comes to eat at my place, but now he no longer hisses, growls or tries to claw me, he now knows that I'm his friend, and his place to eat, and he is always welcome to stay if he wants to, I have plenty of places for all my ferals, even if he actually didn't end up being a feral afterall, I had just thought he was because of his fierceness.

  • You really went the distance. Not many would have kept on trying, but you did.And im very glad you didnt give up.Cats can be jerks. But theres that other side that makes it so worth it all.Glad you got to see that side. Not a bad cat.Just a cat that was traumatized at some point.

  • Oh dear heart! thank you for allowing this lovely boy to accept you on terms that were safe for him. I think he has been abandoned too many times for him to trust fully but you seem to have found this safe place in his heart. I know how exciting that moment is when thay finally allow you to love them! Good work!!!!

  • Sometimes, in my opinion, it is okay to raise your voice as long as it is short and sweet. Like "NO!" loudly can stop a cat in their tracks from doing something they are not supposed to do including inflicting damage on you.
