  • You had it at 8:37 "it was very back heavy" 2 ways to solve this: 1 point the engines down (just be sure you dont melt the back of the canoe. 2 (the most obvious) move the CoG forward. Make remote controls for the engines so the pilot can move forwards. Also, if you had increased thrust the canoe would not have reared up further, instead it would have properly got up on the plane, leveled out and caused a brown stain in your pants. It would only require a small skeg (look it up) the give directional stability and a rudder would facilitate much better steering than thrust vectoring.

And you guys need to build some hovercrafts. Trending now that Cleetus has bought one. 1" corrogated plastic foamcore and fiberglass skin is apparently the way to go. And now for a joke: What do cheap beer and sex in a canoe have in common? They're both f'ing close to water.

  • You're losing too much forward momentum by riding bow high and creating such a massive bow wake. Ballast the boat forward to drop the bow, and lose the wake. Also, it would be safer. Currently, if you should turn too quickly or wind gets beneath a high bow, it could potentially flip the canoe.

    @pdgingras@pdgingras3 жыл бұрын
    • He needs to plain the canoe.

      @fernandoayuso2672@fernandoayuso26723 жыл бұрын
    • @@fernandoayuso2672 There are only two ways to get the boat on plane. If he is going to keep the engine and himself at the stern of the boat, then he needs to place ballast forward. He needs to get the bow of the boat down. Otherwise, he and the engine can move amidship, which would place it closer to the center of mass. However, moving himself and the engine amidship would cause the boat to be unstable in turning. The turning arm is short and now coincident with the center of mass. Thus, the boat would quickly snap around in turns causing wild oscillations. Alternatively, he can leave the engine where it is and move himself amidship. Then he would require a longer tiller and control extensions for the engine. This would place ballast forward, which would offset the weight of the engine at the stern. The bow would lower and the boat would safely plane, but with the added expense of a longer and more complicated control arm. There are always going to be compromises in design.

      @pdgingras@pdgingras3 жыл бұрын
    • @@pdgingras Yes it can be done. Like finding a way to tilt the engine without compromising anything you mentioned.

      @fernandoayuso2672@fernandoayuso26723 жыл бұрын
    • True. You can attempt to trim an engine. Generally, it's either 20 degrees of trim up or down. This is assuming that the boat-motor combination are compatible. Trim is used to optimize the angle of the engine to get the most amount of wetted surface for the boat, which will give the most efficient plane possible. It's not meant to correct deficiencies in design. In designing the motor mount to incorporate trim, you would have to experiment with various heights of the mount above the boat's stern. The higher the mount above the stern would give greater leverage. And then you could experiment with the trim, remembering to keep it within the 20 degree range. I still feel that ballasting the boat forward would be the simpler solution. Just look at some of the high speed ski boats that place water filled ballast bags in the bow to compensate for weight distribution and the ability to give the boat a flatter ride. Ballasting is also used on many ocean going ships. It's a very viable way of changing the center of mass to prevent rolling in heavy seas. Of course, ships don't need to worry about ballasting fore and aft, as they aren't designed with planing hulls; they're displacement hull vessels. Great converation. Many thanks.
