A great day out on the water welcoming in the new lady in my life, Misty, the 26' International Folkboat. I can't wait to see the adventures we have and the oceans we sail. Basically a tiny house on the water! Bring on the islands... but first let's learn to sail a bit better😅

Seeing a man living his dream is very enjoyable. Love it
At least he living his dream, not even gonna laugh at the size because I don't have one, start small and grow.
Thats the male fantasy

Videos keep up the good sailing .so glad to see that there are experienced sailors who are quite able to give you there exsperiances
“Wife’s nod,” you’re a smart man Rod.
Well done mate, in one of my lives I was a sailing instructor and see you are on the right track with learning. I will not be critical however to help you I will on occasion offer suggestions. 1) you have winches on the boat, they are designed to take all the load off your body (which has just been repaired.) put at least one turn on the winch (clockwise) before you start to haul. If a sudden gust takes the line out of your hands it can be had getting it back with burns on your hands. 2) do learn your knots and how to tie off properly to a cleat. not just is it neat but if it is done the same way all the time, even on a dark stormy night you can undo it. 3) try not to sail with fenders hanging. You can lose them and it it poor etiquette. You have chosen a bullet proof boat you should be very happy with.
Very respectful way of telling a new sailor some very common norms. (I’m 22 and bought a boat on a whim, went sailing and made a fool of myself by leaving the fenders out, had guys on other boats screaming at me to bring them in lol)
@@MattO109 ...I wouldn’t worry to much mate, everyone has to start somewhere , mistakes will happen as it does with learning anything , happy sailing . 👍
@@MattO109 I’m 22 and just got into the idea of sailing! My mate bought a boat and I’m saving for my first one! I literally know nothing but I’m so excited to learn!
@@corystephens2793 That how I went into it! My college housemate was building a small sailing dinghy… now Im the proud owner of a boat, albeit deteriorating! This spring hoping to get her solid enough to sail!

He is literally a kid in a candy store with this sailboat 😂 I'm looking forward to the new adventures!
I didn’t expect that: awesome!! By the way, word to the wise mate, sailing with your fender hanging out is the nautical equivalent of forgetting to zip your fly. 😊
👍🏽😂
In The Netherlands we call people with their fenders hanging out Germans, since they rent a lot of rentals on our lakes and are too afraid that they will bump into anything.
I LIKE walking around with my zipper down! I HATE dock rash!!!!!!!
@@wguisbert54 the irony hadn’t escaped me. 😊
I think you mean don’t let your manhood drag in the water.
Out of nowhere, a freaking sailboat! I love this channel because its so varied! A nice little potpourri for us water lovers
He was talking about the possibility a couple of weeks ago during a livestream.
Mate enjoy what you want to do, you know what you are doing, good on you from UK 😎👍🤩
Sweetest little Boat-Home ever ! Very happy for you. Safe Sailing to you always. 😊
I lived aboard a 33' steel pilothouse cutter for 7 years and circumnavigated in the high latitudes. I really started to miss the lifestyle and the freedom it affords after I moved ashore a few years ago.
400K soon, so happy to see the growth of this channel and see him living a happy life

Truly! I found his channel march of 2020 when he only had 70k subs. He deserves the subscriber boom, thats for sure.
MAN, that was my Dads passion in life after the Marine Corps. After a couple wars he'd say he enjoyed the peace of sailing. He went all up and down east coast of US on it. So this is a new Rokkit Kit chapter? look forward to vids on the sail man, Cheers - J
Semper fi one more old Marine sailer here. Peace of it was great.
I’d love to see a mini series on restoring or fixing up small things in the boat as you get it the way you want it! I love seeing where you’d store all your things on trips and how you’d organise the interior!
A nice little boat you have there, it could take you pretty much anywhere. Only suggestion for you is to maybe focus a little more on things that don't need electrics, such as a good steering compass, somewhere to read charts with red lights for night use. I'd also get the radio aerial up the top of the mast, it will give far greater range. Get some strong clips to hold the lifting roof down for when it gets rough maybe? Hope you have some good adventures.
Congratulations Rod,I see the happiness this sailboat is bringing to you. I look forward to seeing you and your family on many journeys with this awesome new boat. Stay safe out there and have a blessed day. Aloha from Kansas.
I remember the days when there were around 5k subs, it sure has shot up fast with 400k approaching soon!!
Your Video brought back so many memories. I went through everything you are going through now. Loved sailing and loved sleeping over in the boat. It was a real adventure. Good luck with your new to you boat. It looks fantastic.
absolutely nothing wrong with an older boat, 3 years ago i bought a fishing boat and it is a 1970's and the motor for it is a 25hp 2 stroke from the 80's and i love it. you do you and live your dream.
What a surprise! I’ve insisted that my wife watch you explaining the background of the purchase and your plans/dreams. An inspiration and insight into what personal growth looks like. Meanwhile, we all live vicariously through you. You’re much admired mate.
Very well put
Well in mate, keep up the lovely content and give us a tour of your mega yacht when it comes.
You're the man...living the dream! Envious!!!
Good sailing you go out and have fun it's great sport
P.S. shout out to your amazing wife if I recall she pushed you into this on the last live stream! Your a lucky man and very deserved 👏 ❤
Congrats on the new boat! Exciting times, looking forward to your new adventures.
Beautiful boat. I can so relate to this : Trying to convince the family that the boat is a good idea; dreaming about the adventures you will have; working out whether the family will actually come along; being nervous about having such a large boat to sail. Best of luck!
I just purchased my 1st ever boat yesterday, an old 22ft cruiser. I am experiencing exactly what you described!
Your enthusiasm is fantastic! "If you don't know knots, tie lots"...love it.
Congratulations Rod, I am so happy for you, just remember to never stop fishing with the kayak, that's what brought us all to your channel.
Hey Rod welcome to the sailing life ⛵. Its so obvious how excited you are seeing the possibilities that open up to you with Misty and you are already looking to improve its capabilities. Be warned it is very addictive and you are always spending money. We came to the same decision a few years back too. I have been in tinnies all my life and in the end we had a big beautiful Formosa plate boat and then we sold it for a sail boat, a locally made 1985 Mangrove Jack 28 and have never looked back. With a yacht, when everyone else is heading home, we are having a shower, putting on the kettle or having a cold beer before dinner. We are Scarborough based and not super experienced sailors either so if you ever would like a second boat to travel with on the long ones up the coast message us. Have a look at the Australian Coral Sea reefs 200nm-ish NE of Fraser. Those places are amazing and VERY fishy. Happy days 🤘
I've been following Sam Holmes sailing solo for a few months. Pretty sleek looking girl you have there. Best of luck and glad to see you taking the saftey seriously 😁
Mate I am envious, enjoy the freedom! Keep your sailing practice up, you'll find once you are sailing out in the open and sit on one heading it is easier 👌
Ken oath rokkit that is awesome brother follow your dreams and make them reality so looking forward to see what you get happening mate so amazing so happy to see a great honest bloke making his dreams happen go hard mate you deserve it!🥳🍻🤙🤙🤙
Beautiful! I also have an international folkboat here in Sweden. There are thousands here. Never seen one with a popup roof, must be an Australian invention! Safe, reliable boats that are fun and easy to sail, sporty when there’s a breeze but not scary. Make sure to check the seacocks that let water escape from the cockpit, the valves need to be in good order and you need to be able to reach them if a tube breaks. And make sure you can tension the backstay enough to bend the mast (people recommend 16/1) and have good systems for the outhaul and cunningham. Then you don’t really need to reef the main below 20 knots, you just flatten the main as much as you can by pulling everything when the wind comes up and adjust the main car to leeward if needed. And adjust the headsail cars backwards to open the top of the headsail to let the wind escape. Have fun!
Great advice.
I've never seen one with a pop top. Not only that, but a hydraulic pop top!
Join a yacht club. Start racing and do group island trips where you tie your boats together on the sides with fenders. Lots of fun. How my dad learned to sail when he got his boat.
Yes rod love it, funny how he mentioned sail boats in last vid 🤭 your brill rod can't wait for this content 👌🏻
I had a sailboat almost exactly like that one. Great for day sailing, and overnight camping. Hope you enjoy it!
Ive never been inclined to like a sailboat until today. I used to cook at a yacht club and those old boys loved it year round. They would party and serve dinner out of their winter cradled boats! Its a real passion and i cant wait to watch you do the thing!
Gongrats! Folkboat is VERY seaworthy boat, easy to sail, quite fast, goog in heavy weather and as longkeeler it is allmost impossible to broke it! You can sail around the world with Misty, if you want to that kind of adventures.
It's a real looker, congratulations on it! It's rare to see a KZheadr that dives, fishes, powerboats, kayak fishes, survives, cooks, AND sails. You're living the dream man! Cheers from Vancouver Island
Can't wait for the new adventures you'll find with this new boat!
Great boat. I'm very excited for you as I've had a similar one in the past. One thing that may help you when getting underway by sail is to always raise the rearmost sail first. This is so that the boat turns into the wind and makes getting the headsail out and set up much easier. Also practice "heaving to" in nice conditions like that so that it becomes second nature when you really need it. Wishing you fair winds always.
One of my fears was getting my anchor stuck. I watched many DIY KZheads on the subject which I recommend you do ASAP, though you may not need the how-to knowledge for many years. They did a lot for my confidence in this area. Most likely if it happens you will need help from the nearest power-boat, but not impossible without one. Also check out many similar youtubes for those who journey in your size boat for many important tips and hard lessons you'd otherwise miss, so that if you have family aboard during a mishap, theyll know Dad is very capable and has it all under control. Take Care and Smooth-Sailing!
So frickin awesome! I have a 24 ft endeavour and after 9 years I’m starting to do solo stuff! Can’t wait to see some catch and cooks off Misty! Yessssssss
I’m so happy for you. You are doing it the right way. Start small (but not to small) to learn. Mistakes on boats this size are very recoverable from. Keep up your enthusiasm! Love your experience every time you go out.
Man!!!!!!! i think your channel is about to get very interesting. I've never wanted to sail in my younger years, and now I'm much older and realise I should have learnt the art while I was younger and keen. You think stuff out well and i can see Misty becoming more than your average 26ft sail boat.
You are been wise, with Baby steps comes permanent experience. Good choice with the boat.

Good on you buddy. Really enjoyed this video. Nothing better than watching someone that is honest. Happy sailing
🙏🙏🙏Happy for you. I dig it. Perfect size boat, with all of the necessary items. 👍
Reminds me of when I bought my first sailboats, a Cal 25, then less then a month after a very very nice oDay 22. Had that 22 for 3 years then bought a Hunter 33 so HUGE step up in size. I still have my Hunter 33, nice boat but I can tell you bigger is not always better. When you go into the bigger yachts, more work, maintenance, and expenses. Then never, a repeat NEVER let your boat sit too long without doing washing and general maintenance. I recommend every 2 weeks to keep it nice. Simple problems quickly become big problems if not fixed. Looks like you got a nice boat there and a 26 is big enough for most people. Id rather have a very nice well maintained 26 then for example, a neglected 41. So keep it and have fun. That outboard is great, light weight and you can take it out with ease to work on it, unlike an inboard.
Awesome boat! Can’t wait to see your new adventures on Misty. It looks like is powered by a flux capacitor! 😉
Awesome so happy for you. I would like one for a bug out option. Let the zombies eat themselves on land. All you need now is to have seeds, soil and buckets. and a good water purifier or a way to desalinate the ocean water
That's a great boat. I owned an IF-Boat (1969), we had plenty of adventures sailing along the South Coast of France. I'll keep an eye out for you and Misty on the Broadwater.
So stoked for you! I'm in the process of finding a little cruiser too. I plan to cruise and fish and capture it on videos too. Can't wait to watch your adventures in this little gem. Cheers.

Haha, yea I was right in thick of looking for one around that video😁👍
IFs are wonderful boats. You need to take this one to the Stockholm archipelago (or alternatively the Swedish west coast) for some sailing in its gorgeous native waters! (Edit: just realized you’re in Australia so perhaps my suggestion is a bit unrealistic!) (And please stow your fenders when you leave the dock or people will start referring to you as the floating hot dog stand 😂)
Living your best life. Awesome, dude. You are awesome ❤️
Exactly what I want to do when I retire, GO FOR IT MATE GOOD BLOODY ON YA!👌
In around 1977, I bought a new Catalina 22 that looked very much like your boat. I spent a summer sailing the Chesapeake. I never had the nerve for any blue water sailing. Our boat was only powered by an outdoor motor hanging off of the transom. I sure would like to have had a furling jib. The Catalina had a pop top too, but it was manual.
Love it mate, looking forward to sailing with you on my IPad. Definitely pay to have that second battery, you’ll have to do a bit of research on a fridge running off a battery but maybe a gas fridge ? What about boarding Misty when at anchor after diving and a reef anchor etc, you’ll find heaps to do. Excited for you, congratulations. Don’t forget a good first aid kit. Greetings from Thailand
Congrats Rod! I would love it if you filmed alot during the long trips! I would love to see the ins and outs of being a new sailor :)

Good onya Rod. ...what a great grown up boat....you look so happy.....cant wait to see you fishing off it....lit looks so perfect for you....a fridge will be perfect addition. As you catch more than you eat in one sitting....lovely sleeping setup. And the motorised roof. Love it for a nice breeze....am so happy for you and Misty. Looking fwd to more adventures... Rick Brisbane. Rod Stewart. Sailing.....
Great work Rod a very nice old vessel indeed it actually looks similar to a " Hood " which is a sailing boat from around the same era , I would recommend a bigger motor a 6 hp is a bit too small for a 26 foot vessel . 6 hp might be okay in a harbour or lake but when out in the ocean or on a river you can have currents anything up to 7 or 8 knots and throw in some big waves you can find yourself in trouble very fast , I have been there and done it before I learnt some very valuable lessons lol . ✌️
Cheers mate, yea will see how it goes and if it becomes an issue will upgrade 👍
And then the sale of small sail boat suddenly increased, following Rod's video. X-D Just kidding! I'm glad to see your boat evolution, man. From a tiny kayak to now a sailboat. Plan to sell your True Kit Discovery soon? I'm keen to buy one from you haha :-))) All the best and looking forward to your new adventures, Rod. Be safe out there!

I never thought I'd be excited for somebody else to buy a boat, today I was proven wrong. ( Edit) as A owner of a Japanese superbike, I must say their 4 strokes are tremendously reliable.

What an awesome sailboat. Reminds me of the boat my fathers best friend and avid fisherman Howard, who is now 84, boat called Daphnie. He had it moored in the private mooring spaces at Louisa Road in Birchgrove. Yr boat so like it, lovely.
Lovely boat. My recommendation is that you join a sailing club. You will learn so much so quickly and in safety, and you will be able to cruise to places you would take many years to get to know.
