  • If you read the Pokémon adventures manga, it gives reasoning to why red has the three starters as well as why he’s on mount silver in the first place. Yes he did borrow them. Also, in the manga, red’s eevee was a victim of team rocket’s experiment and due to unstable genetics, could go between its stone evolutions at will. That is until it became an espeon while under red’s care, stabilizing it

  • Just had an idea for a potential answer for the girl that gives you fly/steel wing... What if she's the pro golfer from alola that ends up becoming an elite four member? It would make sense that she'd want to have a getaway that's out of alola so she'd be less likely to get recognized. And given she's strong enough to eventually end up an elite four member, she would surely be strong enough to get the go ahead to make a retreat on Mt silver.

    • Even cooler, if I remember right, you find out Kahili is a former Alolan champion (in their traditional sense of completing all trials then fighting the other kids of her "class" if you will) and then she says in her intro that she was asked to come home when they opened the League. Considering Kukui is trying to get some world recognition for Alola as an official League, it would make sense to get some celebrity endorsement and Kahili is intrigued because she's strong enough she hasn't faced many real challenges lately. I am liking this theory she's been in Kanto now 😂 (And it fits that even if she's been off the radar, Kukui also says he recently had been in Kanto where he lost the League challenge to Lance but maybe he accidentally found Kahili and invited her in person?)

However, because they weren't able to implement having multiple encounter tables of the same type on the same map until Generation VII, the portion of that pond that is in Cherrygrove has ocean encounters to match the ocean on the western part of the map, even though the portion that's on Route 30 has pond encounters.

    • Not really, rather early pokemon lore up till around mid-gen 2/start gen 3 was that the pokemon world was like the real world and new pokemon were simply recently discovered. Which is why Jasmine notes Steel types are a recent discovery and while a number of gen 2 pokemon can only be found in Kanto. (and why references to real world animals dropped off after gen 2 and Lt. Surge probably being a Vietnam war vet) Where as somewhere mid-gen 2/start of gen 3 pokemon became the animals of the pokemon world rather than newly discovered creatures. It was trying to be a brand new game with brand new pokemon everywhere, but in such a way it made sense with the, then, existing pokemon lore. Having a new region with a bunch of new pokemon and few old pokemon but that's closely related to the old region wouldn't make sense. For the same reason that a lot of animal species found in Germany are also commonly found in Poland.

  • Blue's Gen 2 team basically confirms that Red and Blue is more canon than Yellow. Just to add something in the Gen 1 and Gen 2 connection. In Red and Blue, in the house beside the Cerulean Gym, there is a an old couple. The old woman mentiones that her husband loves trading. Her husband wants a Poliwhirl in exchange for his Jynx and it is the only way to obtain Jynx in Gen 1 games. Meanwhile, in Yellow, in the same house, the old couple are removed and was replaced by the girl who gives you a Bulbasaur. However in Gold/Silver/Crystal, still in the same house beside the cerulean city gym, the old couple still lives there and the old woman will still mention that her husband loves trading. The house is also filled with Pokemon the old man got from trades. If the old couple in Red and Blue are still in Gold Silver Crystal. Maybe the girl in Yellow is non-canon. Furthermore, in Red and Blue, at the southern area of Cerulean City, a girl is having trouble because her Slowpoke wont obey her. However, by the time of GSC, the same girl is still there but her Slowbro which obviously evolved from a Slowpoke now obeys her. In Yellow, instead of a Slowpoke, she had an Electrode....well then.... In my opinion, Red and Blue is still more canon than Yellow.

Most evidence people gave to back it up was based on loose connections in the games which had more solid evidence supporting there not being a connection. Junichi Matsuda even confirmed in a 2012 interview with GameInformer that there was never meant to be a connection between the two, as that interview was the first time he’d ever heard of such an idea Edit: it’s actually really interesting that the theory is only really prevalent in western countries. The only other location where we can find a big Team Rocket presence is Goldenrod City, which links both routes where Ditto can be found. To give this hypothesis a bit more strength, Drowzee - a pkmn native to thise 2 routes - is the only Pkmn that isn't a Poison type & isn't part of the Rattata line used by a Rocket Grunt in the HQ. Maybe it was taken there by the scientists who work for Team Rocket. You can find wild Ditto in Hoenn in Emerald, which takes place the same year as the Kanto games, and possibly even before them, so the idea that they're only in the mansion at that point is incorrect. According to Shigeki Morimoto, he singlehandedly designed Mew and secretly squeezed it into the code during the final two weeks of production as an easter egg. It was originally going to be an offhand lore mention without even an official design or power set. Transform was probably added to its movepool only because it fit thematically and they couldn't code more moves in at that point. -Eona_Targaryen

But because the player is a new trainer, they use weaker Pokémon against you or tell them to go easy on you to make it fair. Like, if you're a kid born in Fuchsia City, Koga or Janine won't use a level 36 Crobat, but a level 10 Zubat or Spinarak for your first badge, and Brock will use a level 36 Golem and 4 other Pokémon.

  • I have always thought it wouldve been a cool feature if pokemon evolved 5 levels early at the lake of rage, up until you turn off the signal at least, but how cool would that be to have your starter randomly evolve at level 31 or whatever?

  • Here’s a theory for ya: Lance got his dragons from team Rocket. - The elite four and some gym leaders were supposed to be evil or linked to team Rocket in gen 1. - People like team Rocket used wild to tame and force pokemon to fight, Lance is also known as the dragon tamer. - Team rocket also sold Dratini via the casino, so it is possible that Lance provided those. (I don’t know about the Safari zone). - And lastly, as a stretch, team rocket experiments with prematurely evolving pokemon. This might give a reason how Lance got early Dragonites. (Wild pokemon can often be caught in the wild with lower levels. It’s my headcanon some trainers may have found some too)

  • The thing about Ditto being a failed Mew Clone is actually just a fan theory and isn't actually real. Satoshi Tajiri was asked about Ditto being considered a failed Mew in an interview a long time, and he was genuinely shocked as he had no idea that people thought that is what was going on with Ditto. He had never even heard of that theory/rumor before it was brought up in that interview. And guaranteed that is not where Ditto came from, and that it is entirely it's own unique pokemon. So sadly anything about Mew being related to Ditto is little more than head cannon at best, unless he goes back on that interview at some point and says it really was. Still a fun idea to mess around with though haha

  • For the Shuckle guy, he could have been given a baby Sneasel from someone who went to Mt. Silver and bred the one they caught. For the Fly girl, she is famous because she can teach fly. So obviously she just flew into that normally inaccessible area. You can't fly to places you haven't been, but that's why she's the master. I've always gone with the theory that Red gets the other starters from Blue/Oak, since yellow was supposed to be more of an anime adaptation. Him having Pikachu would just be because it's the mascot. Snorlax is a scripted fight, which makes it fitting to have (and as an excuse to not have two for you in a post game setting). Eevee is a scripted gift, so that kind of fits, and making it Espeon is likely just from it finally evolving on Mt. Silver. Maybe he didn't have any stones, and it just evolved when starting his training. For the Ditto, Red probably brought one over, since he would have had every pokemon. Then while traveling through Johto, hit up the daycare to see if he could level it up a bit. Eggs started to show up as a new thing. He may have left the Ditto there after realizing it doesn't do anything outside of transform, so it had time to populate the surrounding area.

  • Gen 2 has been the one gen were Pokemon really reached its peak. It's always been a headscratcher for me why Blue's team is mostly based on his team on Red and Blue while Red's team is one you can easily assemble in Yellow (minus the Espeon) without trading since you get Pikachu as your starter, you can catch one of the two Snorlax, get the Eevee at Celadon Mansion, and of course, get all three of the OG Starters. If anything, they should have kept it consistent by basing Blue's team after what he has in Yellow (while he doesn't need the Eeveelution, at least he can have Sandslash, Magneton, Cloyster and Ninetales with his Alakazam and Exeggutor). With an Eeveelution, he could have Umbreon while replacing either Sandslash or Alakazam, because it would make sense since Red has Espeon, least in the original GSC, and it would be fitting to their personalities, with Red choosing the light and Blue choosing the Dark. On that matter, I don't know why since Gen IV and onward they decided to replace Red's Espeon with Lapras as it makes his team less diverse since he already has a Water-type with Blastoise.

  • See, people always cite the "yellow is the canonical geni game" like it's fact, but it's always bugged me; if that were the case, why does Green use Pidgeot, Gyarados, Arcanine, Rhydon instead of ever using Cloyster, Ninetails, Fearow, Sandslash, or any eevee in any game after Yellow? The only real evidence is that Red has all the starters and a high level pikachu, but there's absolutely no reason he couldn't have just caught pikachu and traded the starters. Maybe he has Green's starter. Maybe he traded from any of the numerous trainers in Kanto that have a member of a Kanto starter line. They're rare to the player, but they're clearly *not* overly rare in-universe. Mostly, I suppose, it seems silly to me to suggest the game intended as a recursive anime adaption would be canon over the original games, when GF has gone to lengths elsewise to establish Red as a totally separate character from Ash.

  • Fun fact: The theory that Red borrowed the two other starters was actually used in Pokemon Adventures, when Red needed to go to Mt. • Hey there, big fan of your videos of Crystal Legacy. As my 1st mon game it also has a special place in my heart! I love what you have done with the Gym leaders teams and the movepools! Some suggestions are to expand the Pokedex with the evolutions introduced later. I know you buffed certain pokemon since they had awful stats, but their evolutions fix a lot of these issues. For example: Magnezone Sirfetch'd & Overqwil (I know is Galarian and Hisuan, but that was just an excuse of why its evolution was not present before) Tangrowth Electivire Magmortar Leafeon Glaceon (for these 2 guys maybe new Kimono girls) Porygon-Z Munchlax, Bonsly, Mantyke (why not? This is very fitting as it is the gen of baby mons) Togekiss Ambipom Yanmega Honchkrow Mismagius (not that may ghost so makes sense to introduce her) Farigiraf Dudunsparce Weavile Mamoswine Create a baby mon of Skarmory Wyrdeer I know you are looking for ideas on Rematch Elite 4: 1. You could bring back Lorelai. 2. How about you introduce Fairy typing into Elite 4 with a new character passing by region? You could explain that their Normal types are Fairy because of regional variants. 3. I would also like to point out that Elite 4 has never had a Normal, Grass or Electric specialist. Additional suggestions: Ampharos could be made a Dragon type like its mega since there are not many in this gen Unknown should also know Psychic

  • Regarding the "Red is from Yellow theory", I kinda think that if he actually was from Yellow version, his name wouldn't have been "Red", it would've been "Yellow". "Red" is the first of the three default names from Red Version (duh), whereas in Yellow Version, is replaced by "Yellow" (again duh). Likewise, the Gen 1 rival gets his official name from the first of the three default rival names in Red Version, which is either Green in the Japanese version, or Blue in the international versions, but in Yellow Version, his default name is just Blue, even in the Japanese version. Also, while Yellow is the only version where you can obtain all three Kanto Starters without trading, Red just could've traded for them. He wouldn't have even needed to specifically obtain then from Blue and/or Professor Oak. He could've just traded with one of the many NPCs who used them in Gen 1. Not like they were rare back then.

  • That Ditto theory doesn't hold up to snuff when you consider that Ditto and Mew actually use different color palettes for their sprites in every game they appear in. Ditto was also not originally found in Cinnabar Mansion until Yellow onwards (instead appearing on Routes 13, 14, 15, and 23 in RBG plus Cerulean Cave always). I do have my own theory as to where they came from that ties into why Scyther, Pinsir, Tauros, the Exeggcute line, and the Dratini line were Pokemon can't be found in Kanto in Gen II: they were always native to Johto and were brought into Kanto for the Safari Zone - or for Ditto to Cinnabar Mansion the experiments in Yellow - in Gen I. When the Safari Zone closed in Gen II, they migrated back to their home region. Ditto might also be native to Cerulean Cave as the species can be found there in every game where it isn't caved in. Related to that theory, the locations where Chansey, the Rhyhorn line, and Kangaskhan can be found in Kanto in Gen II/IV are the natural habitats of their species that they were displaced from for the Safari Zone. Some Chansey and Rhyhorn took shelter in the Cerulean Cave during Gen I; but even when the cave is intact in Gen IV Kanto, they still leave once the Safari Zone is closed.

The NPCs are from Red, Green and Blue, not Yellow, such as Dontae, the guy who trades you a Jynx in RGB, rather than Melanie, who gives you Bulbasaur, and the trainer in Cerulean having a Slowbro, as it was in RGB, rather than an Electrode, as in Yellow. So the world itself suggests RGB as the story that GSC follow, not Yellow.
