Am I right? Or way off the mark? 🤔
This phone is definitely for people who want to significantly change their lifestyle, and I think it's pretty awesome for that. I've been using mine full time for a few months (after a few failed starts switching from an iPhone) and I love it so much. I'm so much calmer now without constant input from my iPhone. And this is a great review! I think everything you said was accurate. At first I didn't think I could deal with the downsides, but I adjusted and now the pros outweigh the cons for me. It helps to realize that we lived without smart phones before 2007 (and most of us later than that) and we were just fine.
Absolutely that helps to put it in perspective! I think the swap can be done. It would just take a lot of getting used to doing without all these crazy features that have built up in our phones over the years!
I've been using mine for a year and a half and have enjoyed it immensely. It's really changed my life. Ironic to say that 'if you want to use your phone less, get this' but it is true. That's what taking back your life involves (as their motto suggests). Good stuff man.
That’s fantastic! Glad it’s been the tool you need it to be!
Being addicted to your phone? How pathetic of a human being are you? 😂
I need to be connected to whatsapp cause of my job. Can I somehow incorporate that?
Not with this phone. Currently I'm running a 2-phone setup with one phone for work with apps and all and the other phone more streamlined for personal use.@@Herr.Mitternacht
A few years ago I used Light Phone II for Lent (40 days). At first I was frustrated with how slow texting was, but by the end of Lent I realised I was just calling my friends more. However, it doesn't support wifi calling, which I think is a necessity. I lived in NYC at the time I used the phone and where I worked had bad T-Mobile service, meaning I couldn't call while at work. I am the kind of person who could make the switch, especially because I now have a work iPhone (tho it's locked down to only Apple apps + work apps, and it's heavily monitored (can't sign into iCloud, use iMessage, etc...), but that does mean I could still use it for directions and the Amtrak app (I ride Amtrak daily for my commute). If the Light Phone had better battery life and wifi calling, I'd buy it again.
Love that man! Thanks for sharing. Check out Wisephone from Techless... honestly might be more of what you need. I'm excited to try it out for sure. Also, I love Amtrak! I rode up to NYC from Roanoke last a couple of years ago for a conference and it was awesome.
My thinking is an iPad/Light Phone Combo would be how I function. It’ll take some work getting my blue bubble chats over to email over my phone number. But I can see that being a decent combo for the times that I “need” apps. I tried the Apple Watch with cellular as a minimalist phone but my new job is in a building that just has terrible service. I have expressed this desire to go dumber on my phone to my family and over Christmas they got me a Garmin GPS for navigation and a fairly decent point and shoot camera so at least those two needs are met.
Really like this setup. Let me know if this works for you!!
I think the for emergencies would be the on,y deal breaker for me. Having that SOS feature is so important.
I love mine about to use it again for lent :)
Ah that’s a great idea! Love that!
the biggest perk was actually your pain point of more conditioning other people to let them know I was not as easy to reach so now nobody really bothers me and everyone is extra appreciative when they can reach me
Are you able to search for songs in the music app or do you have to scroll to find? Thanks!
GREAT question and I'm not sure. I have since sent the product back to the company! Maybe reach out to their support?
did you have your sim card out of the phone when it was in the draw? some reason if you don't have a active sim card the battery drains fast
Interesting.... I cant remember to be honest... I feel like I did not have the sim in!
@@SpencerScottPugh I uslly get about 3 to 4 days (the first month it was about 7 days then started to get shorter, not great) and seeing your wis phone review, makes me think It could get better. though I have asked and at this moment they don't have a reason they said on any upgrade in hardware. which I feel is a little sad even if they didn't add a camera making about the size of a iPhone 5 with the ink display would likely have better hardware
Heres my ideas for The Lights Phone 3: 625 Pixel Camera Device and screen are 1/2 inch bigger (up/down & left/right) New writing app 15 lumen Flashlight Faster FPS New phone color: White Higher quality mic and speaker 10 Sec Boot Up Time
Love these recommendations!
And no, you dont have to notify people that you wont be texting constantly. It's like people have forgotten that we got along without cellphones just 20 years ago, and the modern smartphone for even less time. I went back to a piece of crap flip phone that you can barely text on a year ago. It's amazing.
I love the idea of this... but... a product to buy won't save you. Getting ahold of your mind and impulses is the trick.
A very good point. I have thought a lot about this, honestly.
I really want one. I am just concerned about things like 2FA, on occasion you will receive a link in a text for things like that. How do you get around that?
You can send links to the web portal, I believe. That way if you have a smart device or computer nearby you can access the text link that way!
Whats 2FA ?

Little cameo in there from me ;) lol okay serious now. I'm 100% behind this review, I think it's a great non-emergency phone and the phone is perfect for someone who doesn't need all the interaction on a daily basis. If you're a spy and need a phone, this is it. I do wish there was an ability to mirror a device to a dumb phone so that you don't have to have a whole separate number. The barrier to entry for this device might just be too great for me. I've already done so much work on getting my phone as distraction free as possible, but going this far might not be the way to go. I'm always interested in hearing how people react to the E-ink displays, because that's one reason I don't even own a kindle device (although my wife does), I just didn't like how it felt so slow and unresponsive at times. I think one thing that could make all these dumb phones better is a camera, I can't go anywhere without some type of camera, if I'm going to have an alternative device, I feel like I need a camera to capture memories and experiences, especially with my family.
Yessir! 100% and I’m not a spy… 👀
@@SpencerScottPugh That's just what a spy would say......🧐
I love this phone and it did mean a change to the way I use a phone in general. I've had mine for around a year now and find texting to be easier to use with practice and it does have voice to text conversion which it great for quick messages. The company are always updating with more functionality and don't tie us in to the complex 'big brother is watching you' tech. It's a great phone for those who want to disconnect from surveillance whilst still being connected to those who love and need.🙃
love that! Thanks for sharing! I think it can totally work for some. THat said, I doubt there will ever be the PERFECT dumb phone as we all have our various needs!
Can I ask how it responds to voice messages people send? I’m debating making the switch but I’m curious what happens when someone sends a voice message? Is it similar to photos were you can send it to your email?
@jenniferjacques4971 great questions and I don’t have the answer :/
I don't know Jennifer whether you're referring here to my comment that it has voice to text conversion, but if you are, it is identical to being as if you'd typed the text, it converts your words into typed text. If on the other hand you're talking of voicemail, there's a small symbol left on screen which indicates that you need to dial your voicemail number in order to retrieve your messages. I hope that this answers your question.@@jenniferjacques4971
Do you know if the Light Phone 2 would work in Australia? And how is the phone call quality/reception for you?
I’m not sure but I’m sure their website has info on where it’s available! Quality was fine though I think that has more to do with the network than the device. The speakers on the device are fine!
@@SpencerScottPugh thanks for the reply! Also, how well does it's hotspot feature work for you?
@@stefanditillo5763wasnt actually able to test that out. For sure a great feature if you need to bring along a smart device to use beside this!
Does anyone know of a phone similar to this but that's maybe a little faster or smoother? I really like the idea of occasionally switching out my SIM for extended periods when I'm trying to be on my phone less. But I do want to not spend eternity typing out a text to someone lol
Agreed... someone mentioned a brand but it's not in the US market. It's an ink display but colored and super fast. Def interested. Also, check out WisePhone by Techless: techless.com/spencerscottpugh I will be making a video on the first gen soon but WPII is going to be pretty awesome. use SPENCERSCOTTPUGH for a discount if you get one.
@@SpencerScottPugh awesome, I'll definitely keep an eye out. The idea of these phones really has my attention, just haven't been fully convinced yet of any particular option.
I'm in the same boat. I'm very fortunate to be able to test these without having to commit to anything. Hoping my videos could help folks like us choose a dumb device that works best for them without having to purchase it first! @@brendanwhipple6787

A lot of my friends have switched to this. But I am just wondering - why not return to the flip phone???
Great question! 🤷🏼♂️
That's what I did a year ago from an iPhone 14. I'm 33 and remember high school without a cell phone. It has been amazing returning to this way of life. If you're gonna go this route though, it seems like theres no middle ground: cheap flips and lightphone both seem to be horribly slow, laggy, terrible button bounce issues on the flip phones, a screen with a total of 9 pixels, group texts slow the phone to a crawl, etc. It sure is effective at making you not use the thing, though lol. Which I like. I just make my calls at the end of the day and catch up on things. There's nothing so urgent it can't wait till the end of the damn day.
@bensimpson3002 nice! I like that. I’m curious to know if you’re married and have kids? If so I’d love to hear how you set up that process of communication within your family unit!
Nice video greeting from chile :)
Thank you very much! 👋🏻
300 bucks for a phone that does nothing? lmao idk seems ridiculous when you can literally buy a dumb phone that's equally cumbersome to text with etc for 10 times less? What's the advantage over those? That's the part i don't understand. Is it just the clever marketing, the UI, and podcasts? i feel like that's something apple could pull off, releasing a $300 almost dumb phone but compatible with imessage etc and that could have a certain amount of success but with all the disadvantages, i just dont get it
Dude… I wish Apple would make that phone. Seriously! Would be good for minimalists, kids, and elderly…
Cheaper phones usually have app stores. Other options are to get older phones or Chinese imports. Look into it, and you’ll find that getting a phone that actually “does nothing” is extremely hard to find.
@@SpencerScottPugh They kind of have it in the Apple Watch.
For sure! I wish I had tried a weekend with just the Ultra when I had it!@@user-dr2cw3hh1t
@@SpencerScottPugh I’ve got a series 8 and it lasts the day with moderate use.
When someome figures out how to put an e-ink filter on a real 60hz display then I'll be interested
That’ll be so dope!
TCL Nextpaper does this. It's not available everywhere, but I've seen it. If LCD and OLED screens in general weren't giving me constant, terrible migraines I'd consider it.
@@tadghcr2175 I’ll have to check this out!
It's a good phone. Apple and Google track everything now and so does the government.
sadly this phone only supports SMS, meaning 100% of the text messages are able to be intercepted. On a smartphone you can use Signal and everything is E2E encrypted (including metadata).
Dammit even this phone isn't available in Canada! :(:(:(:(
Sorry brother :/
Someone digs the vibe of Unbox Therapy.
Minimalism is kinda my thing! Wish i had a nice wide angle lens like Lew does
I would like it to be able to be used as a note taking device with handwritten notes using an emr pen, so a little bit bigger would nice and longer battery life would also be a must so making it a bit larger would also allow a bigger battery.
I agree that would be super cool. I’d love to try out remarkable at some point as well!
It's better to get a feature phone(the one that has buttons).Mine lasts for a month on a single charge. Its got 3000mah battery. And it has camera too.Its dirt cheap as well.Clever manufacturer.
Which phone is it??
i was looking for something like this and then i forgot flip phones still exist. they are dirt cheap for under $100. this Light is way overpriced
Nice 🙌🏻
New Motorola
Nice! Keyboard?
why did you talk the entire time and not show how the phone works?
Sorry, didn’t know there was a specific way I’m supposed to make my videos
This sounds like a downgrade from a low end smartphone, or an old old iPhone, or kaios phone, or even a dumb phone.
For sure! Lifestyle change
I don’t get it everything that light phone has the iPhone 🤔
the point is less, not more haha
@@SpencerScottPugh ya but does your phone have garage band switch to iPhone and make good music
Then this isn’t for you
You're completely missing the point.

Its too exspensive. Jeez.
I agree!
Nice man u made all the vid with a 1200 bucks apple watch... cmon
What?
Apparently bad is the new good. As a side note, if somebody pays us$300 for it, the phone might not be the dumbest in the room
lol
overpriced toss, nokia bricks still exist , £10
Legit!
This phone teaches you PATIENCE...something everyone is lacking. Frustrating is good. We have become a society where we can't wait for anything..self entitled spoiled brats..
Slow down there baby boomer, the phone is a "dumb" phone with reduced features, logically this should mean that the few features it can do - it does amazing. This is NOT the case. If it types like absolute garbage and feels clunky to use at the price point of a high end 2nd hand phone it should be competing in SOME fashion.. But it doesn't.. there is absolutely nothing this phone can do that a regular phone with some minimalist apps installed can't do. I love the design, I WANT to want it, but its comments like yours that make me realise the only benefit for a phone like that is we don't have to read moronic comments like yours.

@@bravestarr19 I provide genuine problems with an overpriced product that can't deliver on its few functions - you - an idiotic baby boomer who will never buy this phone - decide to try use this as a platform for your nonsensical tirades, of which uniorinically - people who you're screaming at will never see. People don't care what you have to say, the irony being you have zero patience, yet too much time. Shown by the fact you can't provide marketable reasons why the phones flaws are perks. This guy spends too much time yammering on about absolutely nothing and not enough time showing us the damn phone. Like why do you even have a.face cam?
You got that right. Sheesh. It’s almost like he’s forcing us to watch his videos. 🙄
The dealbreaker for me is this: No way to do 2FA for bank transactions and no Bolt/Uber.
For sure. Some apps we just need as tools in the modern age. Wisephone II is aiming to fix that problem with their device!
nah fam, you just want a smartphone lol
but a limited one... think ive found it in Wisephone
wtf, battery should last a week. That’s a deal breaker.
Yeah man. Kinda sad and a bit confusing if you ask me!
