Can This Audi Engine Be SAVED? Coolant Mixing into Oil

2022 ж. 5 Қар.
257 469 Рет қаралды

Oil mixing with coolant is normally a head gasket. This Audi engine wasn't a bad head gasket, but still had oil and coolant mixing issues. This video we flush the engine oil in an attempt to save the engine. The best repair for coolant in the oil is a full engine teardown to check/replace bearings. This car is NOT WORTH THAT!

  • Ok Charles, here's one for ya. 2006 Honda Ridgeline. The oil cooler/ radiator cracked and antifreeze into the oil. Replaced radiator..So, the system was drained and we added water and a dawn dish washing liquid, did that eight times cooling system .. obviously and a few oil changes with sea foam and refilled with factory authorized VW coolant (kidding) and sent it..i understand that this is Audi VW show but guess what.. the pistons go up and down, the wheels go round and round... you're a good teacher by the way. I wonder if there is a way known to man to re-engineer the pcv system on that engine?

  • Well, I did not have this specific issue, but I got a low oil pressure on my Audi A4 2.0 TFSI four days after I bought it, that was a bummer, and I was so close to my house and decided to drive the last few hundred meters, lucky only the turbo died, and judging by the amount of oil in the intercooler it was already in bad shape so I guess it's not a big deal. but yeah, the oil pickup was full of gunk causing the low oil pressure. It was a pain in the as to take off the oil pan, I had never struggled so hard taking an oil pan off a car before. It's up and running now and I been driving it for a few months, but it had 273K Kilometers on it and I did not pull the whole engine apart, I just put a new turbo on and tried it. But it uses a lot of oil, both before and after the turbo change. I don't know if flushing can help with that.

I have checked the oil cooler and I can't find the oil-coolant mixture. I am suspecting my coolant pump to be bad. Could this be a head gasket that is blown? How do I know the bank of the head gasket that is blown if that's the cause of the milky mixture? What else should I check before attempting the head gasket. Many thanks.

  • Hi Charles, I have a similar problem on a VW Passat B7 the thing is that the oil cap didnt have mayonnaise lol (coolant mixed with oil) and so neither the dipstick. I thought it was the oil filter housing assembly which has the oil cooler attached into it, so I replaced it with a new one and tried to flush it but it keeps mixing oil with the coolant. I havent done a full drain the engine oil but I dont think I shoud since there is no mix on the oil cap or the dipstick. But heres the thing, it keeps mixing after replacing the oil filter housing and when you rev it spits a few drops of water form the exhahut. Tbh I dont now if its condensation or Im about to lose my mind with this car. I read online about the oil cooler, sometimes it fails too and you have to replace it in order to stop the mixing. Any suggestions on what should I do next?

    @Troy_Built@Troy_Built Жыл бұрын
  • You could have easily keep the flush for an hour or so and rev it up to around 3000rpm for 20-30 seconds every once in a while, I usually do that when changing the engine oil and it may clean the engine better than just 10 minutes of idling. There are also "long life" engine flushes available where you can drive a car reasonably for 30-50 kilometres before replacing the oil, that would've been great for this particular engine imo.

    @CallMeDezy@CallMeDezy Жыл бұрын

  • Milkshake is not what you want to see in an audi. I picked up a B6 A4 1.8t 5 speed with some good performance goodies that had a blown timing belt for super cheap. Made the mistake of getting a "tested" head on ebay. When got it I knew I should have taken it to the machine shop to test it all myself instead of just believing this place but I didn't. Ran great but after it got warmed up oil and coolant mixed very quickly. I thought maybe it was possibly my doing so I did it all over again triple checking everything with a better brand head gasket. Same thing. When it got warmed up... boom immediate mixture. Finally took it in to the machine shop and of course cyclinder 3 on the head had a crack and when it got warm it was expanding and mixing. I was pretty upset to say the least. It's a good thing I was constantly checking oil and I caught everything quick. With a proper rebuilt head and a few flushes it was good to go. But you just know even running 30 sec with coolant in it has some consequences. I'd say it just depends how long he was driving it after that coolant light hit. Awesome how a failed pvc can lead to total engine failure. Way to be Audi.

    • You’d have to reroute coolant I’d assume

  • I feel that if you don't check every other possibility before the headgasket.. its gonna be the headgasket 100%. Idk why

  • I will say short answer is yes you can save it...but long answer is if a gasket or a designed point of failure like a freeze plug it is not very terrible, but it is not always the go-to failure and then you have to ask yourself... "I believe I have the willpower to do this, but does my bank account?" Is it worth it again?

  • I have a question that stumps me, how and why is your oil and the water smoothly mixing without re-identifying as frothy milk or curd chunks blocking the internal jacket and heater core?

    @Nipplator99999999999@Nipplator99999999999 Жыл бұрын
    • it won't in the HC because there was no oil in the coolant, it was coolant in the oil. But Im with ya, it was like permanently mixed.

    • @@HumbleMechanic thanks sorry I missed the part about it being a one way breech, but I had to look at the oil again because it looked like fuel flooded past the piston rings, but even that was a better viscosity than fuel logged oil. I am also having a bit of difficulty with trying to figure out how it could happen with modern management and intact block, but I really want to know what caused it to blend as well as it was.

  • I think the engine will be fine if you flush it out good enough. Modern engines can take a lot of abuse & continue working. I think it being slightly older has helped it.
