My Torque News story discusses whether a diesel could find its way into 2022 Tundra www.torquenews.com/6626/diese...
If it had a v6 diesel like the Cummins (but Toyota built) I would freak out with excitement.
well, toyota does own hino, so...
@@jimmypham2487 yup
i will 100% buy a tundra diesel if available..
The 2022 Tundra will be released soon, in about 2027
Haha
I suspect a Diesel Prius in the works my sources say
wow you must have deep deep deep sources....I'm going to run with this one BIGTIME! Thanks for your insider scoop Preston!

Any word on the 2019 TRD PRO 4sale?
Toyo has had diesel in other countries which Americans have been asking for. Would be awesome if Tundra had a Diesel engine in US!
They being having "diesels" but not like heavy duty diesel engines
@@cas3661 they have a new V6 diesel that's going into the Land cruiser which we won't get thst pumps out over 500 lb of torque. They're 2.8 and 3.0 d4d diesel would do wonders for the Tacoma. So yes they do have diesels for both their full size and midsize applications but are they going to do it? Nope.
@@HiPlains1 oh wow v6, 500lb of torque thats impressive lol😂😂😂 im talking Heavy duty like 6.7l,1k lb of torque Heavy duty being able to take it to the workside and pull whatever you want without a problem not just for going to home depot and grab some mulch
D Tran not gonna happen! Why you excited
They announced the Alabama plant expansion would be for adding room for the production of additional V6 engines; they did not specify whether those V6’s would be gasoline or Diesel. If they build them here they will avoid tariffs or other import barrier fees - keeping vehicle prices competitive
So can you answer me this I heard all the tacomas are built in Mexico now how the hell did they get around the chicken tax?
@@HiPlains1 I have no idea how they will be able to avoid it with the Tacoma. While it makes total sense to build the Tundra and Sequoia at the same plant (San Antonio) because both will be using the new TNGA architecture - probably with very little variance in size and suspension. The Tacoma move baffles me, unless there is a provision in the new agreement with Mexico and Canada that waves the tax.
I think we will be getting the 3.5 l Twin Turbo Diesel in a tundra. Reason being is, the New Land Cruiser has both gasoline and Diesel engines and it won’t be hard to put it in the tundra since both vehicles were sharing the same engine.
If the new Tundra has a Diesel I will trade my 2019 Tundra TRD Sport 5.7 DC 5800 miles. The payload and the low RPM torque will be really nice. Not to mention all the other new bells and whistles. I am doubting I would trade it for a less reliable v6 gas turbo though.
The Dodge 3500 with i6 diesel can tow 21,000 lb and the payload is near 5000. And it's reliable. Just saying. This is the reason that Nissan and Toyota have horrible sales in the North America except for the midsize Tacoma sells well. They're towing specs are just horrible.
You have no idea about new diesel with all emission. It will cost like triple to run your truck. Cummins has problem with fuel pump and bearings, same power stroke , Duramax is most unreliable truck on road. You have no idea. It's just horrible
@@phlfly10 I wasn't mentioning any of those. Just Toyota's overseas D4D diesel which is bullet proof. They use them on the Hilux and Prado's. Was not talking about the crap that GM/Dodge makes. However, the 2.8 duramax is a pretty good little diesel in the Colorado. That motor is imported from GM's Thailand plant. Also uses their more reliable 6 speed instead of that horrible 8 speed. I also hear good things about GM's inline I6 three liter diesel. But your right urea exhaust system does add allot of cost. No way around that with how strict the EPA is.
That engine will never pass US emissions regulations. This is reason why Nissan never got their diesel in US even they do sell all over the world . VW tried and ended up cheating and jail time plus recalls. Toyota will never bring that engine here unless uses Duramax v6, RAM well Fiat engine or Cummins v8 . But my suggestion to people don't buy diesel I had with VW passat , Benz ML, Jeep Grand cherokee and now Nissan with Cummins, all them unreliable and too much maintenance, fuel pump are terrible, NOx sensor goes bad like every 50K and cost 600 each .Im waiting for Tundra with their gas V6 so I can trade diesel forever and never go back to it. Regen cycles are terrible in small engine they do every other day and kills fuel economy to 10 Mpg and if you don't do it then system goes to limp mode. US fuel diesel is terrible quality this is why VW cheated . If Toyota do that it will be a worse marketing idea ever. Even Ford realizes diesel is no future and they got 7.2 liter engine with almost same torque as diesel . Unfortunately diesel engines are killed by Emissions and there is no future . Don't buy it from my personal experience. EGR system making your intake absorb all oil so then when it's brakes up goes to your turbo and/or variable intake absorb it so than it failed to work properly . Turbo failure is very common on new diesel engine due the gunk on intake pipe, pressure regulated valve or vanes . Oil separator is must for these engines.
Are they targeting e-fuel diesel?
If toyota brought that engine to the full size it would sell out for sure everyone has always wanted the v8 diesel that the aussies have
Toyota bought into that new variable venturi injector technology about 3 yrs ago, they have been perfecting this. I have no doubt it will come to usa since it eliminates the need for DEF and diesel particulate filters since it burns so clean. This would raise reliability of diesel trucks drastically. No more limp mode, engine lights, etc.
Put that new injector into, Achates 2 cycle ,4 cylinder, turbo diesel!!! No,def!!!
It would have 8 pistons !!!! My dad had a straight 8, Buick , when it rusted out he made it into a pickup, for the family farm,my cousin said that was a fun truck, it had monster torque!!!
Jeff you didn't read my comment from that video "Wish Toyota USA bring amazing diesel engines from Asia. It would be soo awesome to have 2.8 turbo diesel from Prado on my 4Runner with a 150L tank(s)."
There was a guy in tfl truck from Texas I believe that imported a used 3.0 d4d diesel Toyota motor and 5-speed automatic transmission and had it converted on a brand new Tacoma. I think the harnessing job alone cost over $20,000 but it looks factory it's amazing truck. Unfortunately the next Tacoma will be a hybrid one. I would also like to see Toyota import the Toyota Prado with the diesel. That company makes some amazing vehicles but we just don't get them here.
Can confirm there is a running diesel 3rd Gen Toyota Tundra
Great Job Jeff
I really do miss my Tundra and my family of five.
October 2021 I plowed my 2002 Tundra, at 0430 hrs, into a flipped semi-trailer, at 70mph. I walked away from the accident. I WILL be buying another Tundra. It would be wonderful if I could get my hands of a diesel!!!
Is going to be a sequoia diesel to compete against gmc yukon
Diesel Rocks!
Diesel hybrid?
Jeff, Toyota recently launched a brand new V6 Diesel for their Land Cruiser in other world markets so I suppose it might happen...........
No it's never going to happen. I think Toyota just doesn't want to deal with the feds getting all the emissions sorted out. It's going to be hybrid they got a lot of technology on that and that's what we always see in North America and that's what we're going to get. In fact the next generation Colorado will have the 2.7 turbo so I fully expect them to drop the 2.8 Duramax on that as well. Only way to get a diesel is to buy full-size American.
@@HiPlains1 You are probably correct. I wanted to spare Jeff's feelings so I deleted my earlier comment about the production of Toyota's Hino delivery trucks halting for 9-10 months due to the fact their Diesel engines could not comply with 2021 standards. They will restart production with Cummins engines.
Since all the domestics now offer diesels on 1/2 tons, it would make sense for Toyota to offer one, too.
They are teasing the future
V6 diesel hybrid!!! Would cancel my CT reservation ASAP.
Oh yeah Cummins has an Achates, tank engine 1200 hp , and a 450 HP semi engine!!! They have a 3cylider, may be alright with lower gears??? I t all depends on maximum torque, torque curve, rear end ratio, and transmission ratios and transfer case ratio!!!
Honestly I think an ev prime tundra would make more sense
Absolutely not.
Diesel Hybrids are the Mark to hit!
No. Just diesel. Electric is stupid & expensive.
@@talisikid1618 so much performance though.. it’s worth it.. there’s a reason military ships and submarines run diesel electric… it’s the best thing next to nuclear
If it is diesel it’s going to beat Ford and dodge it already beat Chevy without the diesel 😂🤣🤣
Bring it out. Our 2019 Mazda CX5 Diesel is a great vehicle. Sabotaged by American media pre arrival. A one year wonder that is a dream on long drives with or without a light trailer (motorcycle/s.) Do it Toyota. My 95 LC died at 298,000 miles. Will buy a diesel Tundra in a heart beat. My CX5 D on steroids. DO IT. I beg you.
Sold if true 👍
Well, I don't think it will happen. Ford stopped the half ton powerstroke now. There's really didn't do well.
Be awesome it'd be awesome they come out with a diesel I buy one
It would be nice if they did but we know they won't they're going with hybrid that's what they use in the North American market. But we can dream I would love to see the 2.8 or 3.0 d4d diesel in the Tacoma. It would take their midsize that has the worst drivetrain imaginable to the best in class. They also have that new V6 diesel in the Land cruiser overseas they could dump into the tundra which would pump well over 500 lb torque. But that ain't going to happen either.
Woot finally...
I want one
I work for Toyota and they have a diesel tundra launching
How sure are you? Are you a Toyota employee or at a dealership?
💯%
It's coming
@@jimmypham2487 whatever you think
@@bo1051 I told you i win!
Diesel emissions and the epa have really put a hurt on the diesel industry. Chief engineer mike sweers already said diesels in tundra or Tacoma’s aint happening just saying….
They have to offer the diesel to compete with Ford Tough....
If they can bring a diesel Tundra to market it'll sell like hotcakes. There are a LOT of people that want a bit more towing numbers and a diesel is honestly the only way to go. Yes there are some great gas engines out there, but man are they thirsty. The big thing will be if the Toyota diesel engine can run clean enough to not require. DEF. DEF is the root of all evil and it seems to be killing all the other diesel trucks out there.
If it comes out in a diesel go ahead and reserve one for me.
Yeah, that’s not gonna happen.
Wait so theres no more v8 and will be replace with v6 twin turbo? Toyota taking so freaking long to release this truck.🤦
Payback for leaking their truck pics online 🤣
I think people are starting to get tired of the hype. It was fun/funny at first but not even giving the stats on the new best in class truck is ridiculous. I wish they would offer a couple of engine options. Chevy guy waiting to see this world beater before I move forward
Starting? We’ve been waiting YEARS for this. I’ve been tired of it. And if I can’t get a crew cab with a 6.5ft bed, I’m out again.
I'm definitely tired of the shenanigans. I don't care about the pictures. I want the stats.
Agreed. 6.5 bed on crew max? does it have an actual key on an SR5? etc etc. We need to see it released on paper now so we can visit a dealer before winter. Idk what the wait is, if it’s designed, show us so we can decide.
Americans diesel trucks will be trash if Toyota diesel is made and sold in USA.
Long as they mate the diesel up to a 6 speed I’m all in, infact if they would finally make the tundra with a 6 speed manual I would buy one
Never happen. No one wants or buys them.
Diesel could go on anyting considering who's in the office messing up the gas prices we're looking at the gas mileage. Could not afford the tundra due to the gas-guzzling 14 miles per gallon it was almost a blessing that mine hydroplaned and wrecked totaling it. I walked away sore for 3 Days testimony to its safety excellent.
From all the pictures that have come out the fuel door is small. Which means no diesel do to DEF requirements. All diesels now have larger fuel door so you can fill both diesel and Def fluids. However it is just big enough for a unicorn d1ck to fit in it. Which means a lame V6 to appease all the climate change hipsters.
very tired of Toyota bs regarding tundra...
There will be no Diesel.
O
A toyota diesel will dominate all other trucks in the U.S , it does in every other country
The EU is kind off banning Diesals.... So the world maket for Dieasels is gonna shrimp.................
Simplify T E S L A
Modern diesel is worse you can buy . I have one Titan Cummins broken crankshaft everywhere, power stroke same problem spun bearing, Chevy is really bad fuel pump left and right.
