Vladimir Putin has been sworn in as Russia's president for the fifth time as he embarks on a new six-year term.
When he first became president - in 2000 - at his inauguration ceremony he promised to preserve and develop democracy and take care of Russia.
BBC Russia Editor Steve Rosenberg asked Fiona Hill, a former White House national security advisor and Russia expert, how the Putin then compares to the Putin now.

There is a charity led by social minded caring young man who with his team goes out to check cases referred to him and provide assistance... Food. Medical. Housing. Documentation identity papers. Life for these people in Russia is very different to the well off shown in Moscow and big cities. A balanced view of Russia... And every country... Is needed rather than the pictures we like to portray to others of how great life is with us and our way. Really the only thing that makes any. sense in this world is that we try to act with understanding of others, give help and kindness and help, in meeting human needs, and support peaceful living.

    • @@marijo1951 so you think that we live in fear. 😃 Everyone can say whatever they want about Putin. Now you can't say anything that would compromise Russian army since, you know, war is ongoing. (One could probably criticize that, but regarding that, it's far worse in Ukraine seems that west doesn't have problem with that). Since I'm living in Russia and I'm even not Russian o can tell you that vast majority of people support Putin. Out of 30-40 people that I know very well and that I interact with on daily basis, there are 4-5 who disagree with his acts. All others totally support him. And we all have only one concern - who will be his successor, his main responsibility is to find worthy successor. And that's it. People here remember how it was in the 90's when western puppet Eltsin was President, and what Putin has made from the ruins.

However, as soon as the Covid Plandemic started I began waking up: I saw the "democratic" measures in the west and was so happy to be in Russia. I admit, we had some crazy restrictions, too, but they were far lighter than in EU and America. Besides, Putin personally said many times that vaccination is only voluntary. This was the eye-opener. I suddenly started seeing all the filth soaking from the West: satanism, transgenderism, paedophilia, nazism and so on. So by the time the Special War Operation started I was a 100% supporter of my president. And I am proud to say that similar transformations have happened to a lot of Russians. We are REALLY proud of our president, we are REALLY prepared to fight for Russia and everything it stands for.
