Gotta hand it to the original coders of The Bard's Tale (PS2) If you smash all the barrels in first town, you'll eventually meet a NPC who was the one to make the barrels in the first place, so he asks you to "Drum up trade" by destroying as many as you can find ! Only game I know of where breaking barrels actually gained you a quest lol

Special dialogue in TotK is an understatement. There is special dialogue for EVERYTHING in that game! If it's day, night, raining, snowing, different locations, different clothes, no clothes, certain fusions you have equipped. And it goes beyond dialogue, too. If you threaten people, they'll run away and you can herd them around.

Even the VR version of RE4 accounts for the tower. It doesn't collapse on you, but if you spend more than about 10-15 seconds up there, they start lobbing dynamite up there with you. If you're lucky, standing in an opposite corner might save you a couple times, but one WILL eventually wipe you out if you try to stay. Just not a viable strategy. P.S.: If you haven't played the VR version, it's fantastic. Honestly recommend it easily as much as I recommend the remake. They nailed it in so many ways.

10:00 I've been playing Final Fantasy XV the past week, and they do this in a couple of dungeons. Sure, most shiny item spots also _just so happen_ to be in rooms where a bunch of enemies spawn before you can grab the loot, but I mean actual tricks. In three different areas, the blue shinies are in rooms that almost immediately collapse upon entering, with the ceiling dealing a fair amount of damage if you don't dodge back in time. You can't get the item, by the way-it's completely crushed/hidden by the ceiling's rubble. And then there are the bridges that collapse, forever preventing you from grabbing an item. It makes me wonder what items they put in these unobtainable spots. Was it some basic vendor trash, just to get the blue dot on the field, or did they jokingly put in high value loot just to further troll anyone who digs into the code?

No other enemy in the game works like this except for one, so I spent the whole game shooting everyone and soon as I shoot this little asshole the galaxy is doomed.
"So be it! The cycle continues." will never forget the jump scare the kid gave me for shooting him pointlessly.😅
this was the first ending I got, and so in line with the FemShep I had created and played through three games, that it's my head-canonical ending. Tho I did replay it once to get the gives-up-self-to-become-reaper-queen, as that was pretty close, too.
Gotta love that developer foresight. They know our capability in cruelty, invincibility, creativity, and even our own foresight.
I won't call it foresight as most of them are gamers and they know what other gamers would try to do. So, they just implement the stuff that they would probably be doing themselves.
"When you're vibrating at the same frequency as your refresh rate on your monitor" that legit made my day. Great one! haha
The most devious way a dev perfectly predicted what I would do was in MGS4. Me forgetting a number in real life meant that Snake forgot the number too! And it was actually part of the story! It's not technically an instinct but I still think it counts.
I’ll piggy back off that and say screaming mantis cause kojima knew we’d try changing the controller to player 2 to beat her like psycho mantis then had meta commentary on it in game about how it wouldn’t work

After enough time with souls games you gain 2 new lines of thinking with loot. 1 hit the chest it could be a mimic, 2 check every corner with the camera when walking into any room that looks too empty.
Yep. I was just about to type this lol
I've honestly thought like that since the old God of War games 😂 at least the checking every inch of every room/level for stuff
#1 was the instinct until, I believe DS2, you were capable of just destroying real chests and then being left with nothing lol. Had to find other ways to tell if it was a mimic
I've always just looked at the chain. If you can't see the chain clearly, wait and see if it's breathing. Tho with enough playthroughs you just remember which is a mimic and which isn't, unfortunately. It would be fun if NG+ and beyond mixed them up
I will say took me till like 3rd run to learn about the lloyd throwables putting them to sleep and gave a better shot at their helm
Another instance in GoW Ragnarok where they acknowledged the looting that I remember was when (I think it was) Heimdall said to Atreus “sure! Just break your way into Asgard and start taking our shit! That’s cool…”
Huh? When does this happen? It’s been awhile since I played it…but from what I remember the only time you’re moving/interacting with Heimdall is during cut scenes and when you meet/walk with him to Odin’s spot…before he makes you fight…and I don’t remember there being anything you can loot since it’s basically a cutscene…all you can do is walk with him. So yeah, when do you even get the opportunity to loot stuff with him nearby??
I loved the loot comment! I think it happens a few times in other situations but nothing like the my dad just likes loot. Epic stuff right there bc after 2 games you really feel the relationship between the 3
Definitely the floor falling out on LOP is a good one, I'm on ng+ and have fallen for the same damn trick now twice! I also would include how Elden Ring puts that ridiculously difficult sentinel right at the beginning of the game knowing that people would go over there spend the next few runs (or hours) being ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED over and over again.
Lop?

The baiting with items thing is an oldskool tradition. You'd see a 1-up on a ledge or something and think you could make it with a crazy good jump but nope. It was a red herring. I'll also remember the stealth sewers in Chrono Trigger, where you see a save point but the chime that plays when you walk on the save point alerts enemies. It got me so good I laughed till I stopped.
What about Nier Automata? A game that had 21 joke endings for doing stupid or "unexpected" things. Like running away from a boss fight or self destructing on the space station.
Or eating fish when an NPC tells you to after giving you one.
In High on Life. If you continue down the bridge and speak to the woman at the booth you'll learn that the "kid" you killed, is 30 years old. I felt so guilty initially 😂
And her mother isn't even mad and is only kinda sad about it.
You know that it isn't real, right?

In Borderlands 3, the first time you meet Tannis, she takes the vault key into her office/research shack thing to charge it with some kind of machine she's got(actually she's just getting inside to charge it so you won't find out she's got siren powers). Anyway, she tells you that while she's doing that, you stay outside and "loot anything not nailed down". Which, like. It's a Borderlands game. You're doing that anyway.
14:29 That 4th-wall breaker tho- 😂
for Baldur's Gate 3 it's not just the netherstones. there are a lot of instances when you think there is no way Larian have thought of this. But they have!

Tales of Destiny has something like this too. If you manage to beat Leon the first time you encounter him, the game gives you an early ending. This is mainly meant for a NG+ run, but you can do it on the first run of the game using cheats (or you know, being good at the game.)
Falcon!!!! Just something about this guy you just love.
Falcons bit on Arkngtgamz, was pure comedy😂 0:56 . Love your videos. Thank you much for all the years of great videos
I liked when in Skyrim a guy commented on you picking his family crypt clean. (But he considered it payment for your effort to help with the thing.)
Excellent concept for a video, well done! I would love to see more like this.
The Stanley Parable could fill this whole list. For example, number 4 is similar to what happens when you put the right code on the boss's office's safe before the narrator tells you.
Mortys voice as an alien gun took me out Lmaooo
Opening line had me rolling! Thanks for the good laugh I needed this morning.
In Kid Icarus Uprising the normal "don't advance the maon story, get loot first" mentatlity results in you falling into a trap foor which is actually the right path, you can double back later to get the treasure chest you were baited with.
Fun part about the High on Life bit is if you don't shoot the kid, you run into his mom who starts going on and on about how much she hates her kid... Also my pick: Destiny 2's anniversary dungeon, where they called back to the D1 loot cave in the EDZ by making it into an entire dungeon! Awesome fan service.
It would be better fan service if there was a way to still play old campaigns

If you shoot the kid, you also run into the mom, where she kind of gives you conflicting messages abt killing her son. "oh someone finally did it. He definitely desereved it, I hated the kid. But he was also my kid. I can't believe he's gone. Please leave me to grieve." Or something along those lines.
i still think the best part about that moment is that kenny doesnt actually LET you shoot him right away lol u gotta try a few times and hear him ripping on u for trying to
That chort that they had spawn in the first town to stop people from farming cow hides was hilarious to me. Also there was the note in the pang of conscience sword chest in Kaer Morhen that acknowledged the glitch.
Good work Gamernax:)
Another wonderful list. Thanks for keeping us so entertaining with each video. 😁
#3 reminds me of this one part from The Suffering. There's a shallow pit in a cave you see that has a bunch of ammo and health items. The minute you jump in to grab them you hear the voice of Hermes Haight (the gas ghost character) saying "People are so predictable..." and then the pit starts filling with toxic fumes. I had to laugh, it was such a great set up I couldn't get mad.
I want a video about when games DON’T understand our gamer instincts, because IT IS SO ANNOYING.
The best Lure for a Human...a shiny bright light
I like how god of war breaks the 4th wall witht the loot you mention in the video also when Atreus asks kratos so are we heading there(main quest) or are we going to do other things(side quests) it's cool because other games never mention it, characters just stay quiet all the time until cutscenes
The intro had me rolling “vibrating at the same rate as your refresh screen” 😂
I am only 30 seconds into the video, and it's already the best intro I think I've ever heard. Props.
“Ahh you shot me im dead” that was comedy gold. Same with the “there goes our E for everybody rating”
That freaking intro was excelent.
The part where you pick up some hacksilver as Atreus Heimdall: “Yes, why not steal anything that isn’t nailed down” 😂😂😂 Had me on the floor
Gameranx understands my gamer instincts - you guys have for the most part lined up with my feelings on some games *after* I bought them.
Always love your introduction 😂
That was a fantastic intro monologue
If you guys do a part two to this list, you should add in Outer Wilds. That entire game abuses my ingrained instincts from playing games in order to hide away all of its mechanics.
Falcon is getting and getting funnier . Nice vids . More please
It would be cool if you guys did a video on top gaming soundtracks. I know you’ve mentioned the music in some of your before you buy videos and I think it would be cool if you did a video dedicated to some of your favorite gaming soundtracks or a top 10 list, etc.
That is a great idea!!! What would your top 3 be??

Wow... played through the original RE4 a few times and never thought to hide in the tower.
Perfect Life form a Gamer, love that every way 👍

10:28 brilliant 😄 that kind of writing keeps so many of us coming back.
I actually fell for that final loot bait trap in Lies of P. Even called myself out for falling for such an obvious trap. LOL🤣🤣🤣🤣
"Hug the walls and pick up everything that isn't nailed down." Those are my house words.
That intro was the poetic writing that only the ingenious mind of gamer could produce. May the Dew be with Yew
My favorite thing in God of War is when you're looking and aureus goes "how did you know that was there!??" 😂
LOL on the 'the armor is worth 50 gold so im taking it' hahhahahaha
My favorite mod in Skyrim is a giant museum to house all my loot, this is accurate.
Awesome 😎
Well, I've missed rare items because I skipped out on picking them up. Now I've decided to rectify it. It helps me check out, mentally, on an area when I get through it to know it's fully explored.
adding on to the Arkham Knight one: the first time you do it you actually slam the guy's head into the bars of the cage, the animation of Batman raising his fist at the jerk is only for subsequent visits
Dragon's Dogma has something similar to number 3. Some of the chests you are trying to loot contain an evil monster(leapworm) that will instantly eat you.
That's an oldie, same concept as chest mimic (very common in dark souls).
@@bnz302 Ok,i've never played Souls,so i didn't know.
Dragon's Dogma does do one where you can make forgeries of some quest items and give those to people instead..... And then actually have it change something. I only did it twice: the first was PERFECT game writing, the second backfired on me lol. A fantastic game all around

The bell tower floor collapsing in RE4 remake scared the hell out of me. Then i laughed about it cause i knew they thought of it for that exact reason
I feel like this whole video is about Lies Of P because you can tell the Devs behind it are hardcore gamers they must have with all these shortcuts all the rewards you get after a hard encounter it's like they're talking to my soul with this game lol
3:00 In my copies of the game both on gamecube back in the day, and then the steam release, not the current remake, I could never just wait there. They always climbed up after me or launched explosives at me to drive me out.
Capcom proves how to do a remaster. The meta levels of gameplay design in that tower collapse are amazing.

Gameranx with the HARDEST intro of all time fr 🔥
Arkngthamz, you need to understand one thing. Back in those times vowels were in short supply and the extra vowels got looted from its name. It's pretty sad really, such a long name with only two As. That time was called 'The Great Vowel Movement'
