  • I was a boater for 10 years or so and trailered the entire time and am thankful that I never had a serious incident on the ramp. When you go to any ramp for the first time it can be really stressful. They're all a bit different and in New England the tides and currents create very changeable conditions. You launch the boat and come back 4 hours later and the situation can be entirely different. I used to launch on the same tidal river ramp and got really good at it because I learned all the tricks.

    • At 1:23, been there done that 🤣. TG it was a primitive launch and my boat landed in sand. Had to winch the boat back onto the trailer. My wife has never let me forget that one. 😆

  • When the Boat Shop staffers were still at the store on a Saturday afternoon, (and not already on the water), when we closed the store, and wanted some laughs, we would drive a couple blocks down to the marina launch ramps.... and watch the newbies launch and load their boats. We always ended up having to help some, but the best were the husband and wives teams. We have a pile of stories just about that group.

      @MrYfrank14@MrYfrank145 жыл бұрын
    • MrYfrank14 I was wondering how they got the boat and trailer there? Was it towed by the ramp truck or hauled on the roll back, and what did they attach the hook to. When that last guy put his foot on, the whole works snapped like a mousetrap! Then how did no one get squashed under the trailer when it comes down!

      @327365hp@327365hp5 жыл бұрын
    • @@327365hp My working theory is that it's a yard trailer, Possibly home made. And was taken to the ramp on that tilt tray towtruck. And the bit that snapped off I believe is called a Pintle loop. But I think it was going to go regardless of that guy putting his foot on.. Just the welds let go. I'd say it was never designed for launching, just trundling around on a nice flat parking space behind a tractor.

Even my truck would have a tough time with a boat of that size. If the ramp isn’t bad enough, they could kill someone on the road trying to stop all that weight.

    • @@jrand6138 Thats why they saved a ton of money on the trailer, it would have cost just as much as the jet ski. At least from their perspective. The only smart loading I have seen into the bed of a truck with a jet ski was once when a dude had an electric winch mounted in the front of the bed, and would undo the cables on the tailgate so it would hang down about 6in below the deck of the bed. It was just enough to back in and pull the jet ski onto a rug he had in back without busting up the truck or ski.

  • Best boat hauler I ever owned. A 1972 Lincoln town car w/460 v8. About 7 mpg. But that low torque v8 could pull! Paid 700 bucks for it in 1998. Several of my fishing buddies teased me about it. But when their fancy smancy. PUs. Couldn’t do it. My car could.

  • Two things are needed in order to launch or recover a boat. 1-The proper vehicle for the size and weight of the boat. And 2- Intelligence and knowledge of how to back-up a trailer. If you possess these things, your next trip to a boat ramp will never end up like it did with these idiots.

This stuff is funny and some is just damn dangerous!! I watched in horror at the ineptitude of people who are damn lucky to still be alive....not to mention still have insurance!! OMG!!
