  • The weep vents remove the accumulation of water that can occur through condensation in the cavity… they are not for water ingress from outside. 👍🏻😎

  • I guess the key issue is whether the render does in fact seal the wall, not just on initial installation but over the full life of the system. I bet the answer is that it does not stay waterproof. Done well, even if it isn't waterproof, it probably won't let in enough water for it to run anywhere in the brick. But we all know there will be some cases where the worst case scenario happens even with the best construction, and more often with bad construction. A larger question for me is the question of condensation within the wall system. Does the construction, and the climate, mean that there is condensation from air leakage within the wall cavity? If yes, where does the condensation escape to so it does not cause mold and damage? On another note, you guys need to find a hoisting system that you can attach to the strong boys and lift the lintels into place. No need to take the damage from lifting heavy, awkward loads anymore.

  • Morning Steve & Alex, best thing you did was put a concrete lintel in. The renderer need to stop at the toe of the lintel with a bell cast angle, if they render all the way round to the window then a vent should be installed. So I would advise the render people of this, this is regulated and can be found in the relevant documents. Heavy lintel that bugger!

  • With a decent cavity tray you don need weep vents. There was a block of flats in Blundell Sands, weep vents fitted correctly but the off shore wind was blowing water into the cavity causing damp

    • @@SteveAndAlexBuild The issue is that that the weep vents are above the sealed bottom of the cavity. I agree that water penetrates the outer skin and if built properly the water runs down the inside of the outer skin, great. So the current rules are that the cavity is full of insulation, the weep vents are above the cavity bottom. So lets think about that, there is a well at the bottom of the cavity wall where water can collect. Normally with air movement as the building heats and the water vapourises but theres no movement of air to get rid of the water and the weep vents are 4 courses at least above the water well.... bring me a local inspector and well have a chat. ... Yeah Im a nerd, but I design and build the largest structures on earth

    • Who is De Walt 🧐🤣

      @SteveAndAlexBuild@SteveAndAlexBuild13 күн бұрын
    • @Gippojr. Many years ago, I asked a tradesman in the building industry what he thought about the higher end, professional Black & Decker power tools. He largely rubbished them and said that De Walt were the best/mutts nuts/Rolls - Royce brand of power tools. Some years later I visited the B & D factory at Spennymoor, Co. Durham. A large scale re - organisation was under way in one of the production halls. I asked my contact what was going on and he said that the De Walt production line was being brought back from Italy. “That’s De Walt power tools your speaking of?” “Correct” my host said. “B & D own the brand”! Stay safe and well.
