I never let my tyre shop get away with things like this. And remember to always check your rims. That's why I always keep an eye on what they are doing with my new tyres.

    • Because every tire has different weight spots not always is perfect, for example I work at a motorcycle Harley-Davidson dealer, stock tires (dunlop) bring the yellow spot to align it with the valve stem guess what 5 of 10 give you low or no add weights at all, but when people want to install Metzeler which is the more expensive tire for H-D motorcycles i got 8 of 10 over 60 gr which is crazy and if I change the paint mark to different poritions of the wheel most of time becomes worst, oh also Michelin tires are more funny because factory said their tires are perfect and always wiil give you a few weights or nothing which is b**sht, but oh well as soon your machine is calibrated fine and you don't exceed 4oz (115gr) of weights is good for H-D bikes (just 2 tires)

• How does the machine differentiate between the tire and rim for balancing.

    @968porsche9@968porsche911 күн бұрын
    • Highly accurate laser sensors and the roadforce roller. The process is a little longer than what it shows here. Usually you have to rotate the tire on the wheel twice. So the assembly ends up being run on the machine. Once for a baseline reading, then you rotate the tire on the wheel 180* and balance it again. This second balance with the tire in a different position allows the machine to learn the difference between an irregularity in the wheel or the tire. Than you will rotate the tire to its final position on the wheel and balance for the third and final time. So once to check the balance of the assembly, once to check where the irregularities are in the tire and the wheel, and once to verify proper alignment of irregularities and balance.

  • To all those saying they wish every shop did this. You have to have a Roadforce tire balancer. The vast majority of shops do not have a top-tier balancer or the capital to justify a 100k setup (tire machine and balancer) like the one in this video. Unless you are putting these on a racecar or have tires that are inherently hard to balance a run of the mill balancer that gets maintained and calibrated regularly will balance a tire well. Besides, they still had to add what appears to be an ounce at the end of that.

I did the same thing when I mounted 175/75R14 tires on my Hyundai Accent. Balance wheels, intall tires and tubes, balance again...

  • We have road force on our balancer at the shop I work at, but honestly, Im not sure if it's just the one we have, or if they're all that way, but ours a lot of times doesn't help anything when we use the force match. So we don't normally bother using it. But, if it does a better job on your balancer, I say it's good that you use it, it'll make them wheels ride that much better.

  • Most shops don't do this because the customer doesn't pay for it. Road force costs extra money and 90% of the time its unnecessary. Almost any dealership will do this if you ask, but expect $10 - $30 additional for road forcing each wheel. This is, in most cases, done only when vibration is expected (low pro and big truck tires) or when solving a noise vibration harness concern. If you had new tires put on your vehicle and got a vibration as a result, road force may be a solution. It was for me on my personal sports car with aftermarket rims. Night and day difference. It is also within the techs best interest to not screw the balance or the rim up so they don't have a comeback.

    @Lonewolf-kw8gg@Lonewolf-kw8gg21 күн бұрын
    • Static balance vs dynamic balance. Static just makes it balanced as if using an old bubble level type balancer. This is still very common and how pretty much every motorcycle tire is balanced. Dynamic balancing is used for high performance, high speed, and becomes more important the wider the tire is.

    @daniel16.4@daniel16.413 күн бұрын
    • The sealing itself is on the tire, not the paste. The paste only helps on the tire to make it more smoothly on the rim , like grease.

Then quick exchange, up to 5-10 grams unbalanced on each wheel (is ok...). And also the balancing machines are very bad condition, the shafts with the hub is full of grease and other dust etc. And only chance to get your wheels balanced on the calibrated machine is when was brand new installed on yesterday....

  • You didn't re-paste or set the beads, that seat is gonna be garbage. The beads are going to settle as they drive, and that nice low road force reading you got (which isn't accurate anyway cause you didn't set the beads before doing the initial rim runout) is going to go up 3-4x. Over-pressuring during air up is usually enough to avoid this, but if you're putting the effort into force matching and have the autoclamp, you might as well seat the beads the right way. You already got the sissy lifters, might as well do some work. They'll be back in with vibration issues, if they have the buns to notice it 🍑

It can be a time-consuming process, and a lot of people don't have the time to wait or the money to spend. Mabe, the newer Hunter equipment has sped up the process.

  • Okay for those of you that don't know that is called a road Force balancing machine. If he road Force balanced that tire and then he had to put that much weight on that tire after road Force balancing it that tire is way out of specs for what I would consider a good tire. What I mean by this is that the tire is "out of round". What this technician should have done was showed the numbers on the machine of how out of round this tire was before and after road Force balancing.

  • Discount tire uses road force balancers. He basically saw that the tire has a bunch if "rollout" (no tire us made perfectly round there is excess rubber in some places) this road force machines mimics the tire being under a car (the roller puts over a thousand pounds of force on the tire) with that it can see where that excess rubber is. Usually if the number is above 35 you would do what he is doing where the machine tells you to mark the wheel and tire and rotate the tire so lowest part of the wheel meets with the highest part of the tire. (The highest part of the tire is where the excess rubber is). Even without a roadforce machine common rule of thumb if the tire is asking for too much weight is to rotate it.

All a tech will do is mount and a simple weight balance Hell even if it is included, some techs will take the 0.5-1.0 labor hour to get paid to do these extra services and will still only do a simple mount and balance. If I didn’t tell you, you wouldn’t know the difference
